Born Eugene Fitzherbert, Flynn never knew his parents. Growing up in the foster system, he quickly learned to hide his tender, romantic self under the guise of a bad kid. He drew inspiration for his character from the books he found at the library. Mysteries and adventures had long been his favorite, and he spent many hours swashbuckling on the high seas and solving murders in his books, which were an escape from his real life. His bad attitude and sticky fingers had him bouncing from home to home until his eighteenth birthday, when he was left to fend for himself with no more than a dufflebag of belongings. With the little bit of money he got from the foster system and had saved, he officially changed his name to Flynn Ryder, sealing his life as Eugene away for good.

There's one simple rule with Francis: never call him Frank or Frankie. It's Francis. That was always his reply to such names. Francis had it made. A prestigious family moved to America from across the pond, wealth, comfort. But he got too comfortable. His parents cut him off and kicked him out. He was old enough, in their opinion, to make his own way. They didn't want to support him forever.

Penniless and alone on the streets, Francis barely managed to share a dingy apartment with complete strangers. They were nice enough, but he had bigger dreams. A stage, his name in lights, adoring fans. But he had no idea where to begin or how to make it happen. A mysterious invitation from Castlewood University was the answer. Tina Bell was born to a single mother in a small town, in fact a town so small that only had a school, a church, and a grocery store. So it didn’t come as a surprise to her mother when Tina asked to learn to sew, and she quickly became popular around her school, being known as the girl who made her own clothes. It also helped get her attention from the boys, which was never a bad thing.

For Tina, it didn’t seem like things could get any better than high school, she had an amazing boyfriend, and her relationship with her mother was amazing. That’s when it happened, the accident. In one night Tina lost her mother to a drunk driver, and her boyfriend to the head cheerleader. That’s when the letter came, at age 16, she received her first letter from her father, a letter containing pictures of him and her twin sister Perrie, as well as an address in Hollywood and an invitation to come live with them.

Feeling like she had no other choice, the 16 year old packed her things and got on a bus to Hollywood. It was everything she’d imagined it to be, all the lights and glamour, if she wanted to be known as a designer this was the place to be. For three years she attended and expensive school and studied design more carefully, alongside her sister who was now her best friend.

That’s when she got the invitation to attend Castlewood University for fashion design, and for the first time since she’d lost her mother, Tina couldn’t wait.

When their beloved father died suddenly, though, the little girls were cast into poverty, as the will left nothing to their mother and them. It wasn't long before their mother married again, bringing a new father and sister into their lives. Mr. Tremaine loved Annie and Zella like his own daughter, Cindy. While he was not their father, Annie felt the same towards him, even though she battled her jealousy over Cindy's claim to her father. When Mr. Tremaine died, Annie was lost and shocked. Turning against Cindy in her pain, she became petty and vindictive, determined to make her step-sister's life hell as they began high school.

Annie was surprised to discover, upon her eighteenth birthday, that her beloved step-father had made provisions in his will shortly before death, leaving money for her sister's and her university expenses, as well as for his own daughter. With that money, Annie and Zella will be able to study music, the way they dreamed, Annie has an inkling suspicion about the timing of her step-father's death, though she loves her mother too much to explore her thoughts. She can't stop the dreams that come, however. Dreams of her mother's manipulation and greed, pushing Annie and Zella towards what she wants like pawns in a game for her own glory.

Kida Atler was used to a quiet life. Growing up in Edland's Bay, South Africa, Kida took to the water at a young age, learning to surf, swim, and dive. The isolated fishing community she called home also was host to miles of swamplands and hundreds of species to peak the young girl's sense of curiosity. Raised by a single father, Kida often ran wild, leaving early in the morning to begin her exploration and not returning until late at night. As one of the village leaders, his daughter's antics were a source of frustration for Mr. Atler.

Kida graduated from the University of South Africa, following her love of exploration and pursuing a degree in anthropology. She was looking for an escape from rural life, however, and was looking for postings in America when she discovered Castlewood University. Too perfect to pass up, she applied, nearly immediately receiving an invitation to join the staff of the school. Nervous about leaving her father, but excited to go, Kida couldn't shake the feeling she had of leaving her roots, her people behind in her search for a new life. Dreams of her mother's death begin to haunt her again, and dreams of the explosion that killed her, glowing an eerie blue.

Cindy is a small-town girl, who moved to the city when her father found a better job and married. While her family never had too much money before moving, Cindy learned the value of hard work to get what she wanted. Cindy's father died when she was young in an accident, leaving her in the care of her step-mother and step-sisters. Life was harder for all of them after the passing of her father, but Cindy took the changes to her life in stride, learning to cook and mend clothing and help run the household.

When Cindy graduated high school, she was sure that her options were limited to finding a job and attending community college. With his return came rumors and suspicion directed at his uncle.

It will be time for Sam to take his place as head of the King empire, very soon. But his mother and father had both wanted Sam to get an idea of what would be required of him before he took over. So an invitation from Castlewood University presented a marvelous opportunity. Sam could get his business degree and prepare to take over the family business. What he didn't realize was that his uncle would be one of his teachers. Will they be able to coexist peacefully? Or at least without destroying the castle? And will Sam ever face the strange dreams of the African plains that haunt his nights?

Her childhood was a very happy one. A loving mother, a caring father. But the accident that stole her mother, injured her father, she blamed herself for it. Strange as it was, she blamed herself because they'd been driving home from dropping her off at a friend's. So when her father was in the wheelchair, Sally made sure to be at his beck and call, to do anything he needed. Every day of physical therapy, she was right by his side. She couldn't have been happier when the day came that he was able to walk unaided. But every glance at his scarred face reminded her of what happened.

Even that sense of responsibility for what happened didn't quell her teenage rebellion though. Sneaking out, attitude, the usual teenage happenings came to pass. But that love still remained. When the time came for her to go to college, it became a fierce battle. The mysterious invitation from Castlewood University for her to attend and her father to teach, well that seemed to ease things over. But dreams of a very similar sort of argument have begun to emerge, and Sally isn't quite sure what to make of them.

Every girl deals with having six sisters in their own way. As the second youngest, Andrina had to find it in an entirely new way from her elder sisters. It came in the form of jokes. Not necessarily pranks, but jokes, telling and enjoying the jokes of others. Jokes, food, a guitar, what more does a former mermaid need to get her mind off sharing her space with six sisters?

Like some of her sisters, Andrina didn't seem to mind suddenly receiving an invitation from Castlewood University. It was a new place to meet others, laugh and make others laugh. Better yet was their father being with them. Andrina was glad to have her father near. The safety of his nearness made her enjoy the castle all the more. And even the dreams of life as a mermaid couldn't make it any less spectacular. There were worse dreams to be had. A violet tail and swimming with dolphins was a wonderous way to spend nights.
