🌔 Waiting at that shallow grave | 🌓 55k words | E | 🌒 Wolfwood, hitman for the Eye of Michael, gets tasked with one last mission.

After a few seconds, Vash moves. Slow, relaxed. A black strand of hair slips onto his forehead and kisses the barrel of Wolfwood’s gun. Vash reaches up, slow and calculated, and finds Wolfwood’s hand. Before Wolfwood can jump, before he can press the trigger, Vash has slipped his finger out of the guard and from there it’s all too easy for him to take the gun in his hand, clicking the safety back into place, and dropping it into the passenger seat. His other hand — the gloved one — wraps around Wolfwood's wrist, holding it tight. "I need to get into the city," Vash says. His voice is still a raspy, rough thing, clinging to the insides of his throat as he pushes the words out, fatigued. "Not the one we were in before. Another city — any city. If you give me a ride there, I’ll leave you alone." "There’s a bounty on your head," Wolfwood says, his own voice a shiver. "I was hired to kill you. I already have the money, and now you want me to drive you around and ruin everything for me—" "I'm good at making it out unnoticed." Vash says. His thumb drags across Wolfwood's wrist, right against his rabbiting heartbeat. "I swear to you. They won't ever notice I'm alive."
