I dance a cappella
moving to the rhythm of my heart
you glance my way with an encouraging smile
invading my space without leaving an imprint
I speak to you in a language you canât hear
drowning in your shallows
yearning for depths
You stareÂ
bewilderedÂ
as my face turns blue

No more waiting
for the people to show
the music to start
Anticipation is a gamblerâs hand at the end of the night
and I donât care for the odds
The stage is set
Itâs time to go on.

The scent of rain subtle yet satisfying a comforting reminder to rest take a break, take a load off stay inside under covers as healing waters wash away worries and regrets
or
sit outside en plein air a front row seat for the lights and sound nature show. Bring it on, Mother!

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!
The dishes soak, the mower sleeps
Clothes lie in their basket
Sunshine calls me on the breeze
âCome out, come out thereâs much to seeâ
I grab my camera, journal, pens
and join in natureâs play group

Iâve spent my life seeking your approval
needing your validation to be worthy
your love to be lovable
I was beautiful if you thought so
a good friend if you chose to spend your time with me
Now I knowÂ
The only approval I need is my own
The love I canât live without is mine
Beauty is what I decide it is
I may not be your first choice
Thatâs okay
I choose myself.

I see you behind me
but I donât know why youâre there
Do you like where Iâm heading?
Do you want to come along?
Do we have similar interests?
We could share along the way
Or are you hoping to take the lead?
Do you want me to follow you?

âAny Way You Want itâ was playing when you came up to me on the dance floor, and asked, âWould you like to dance?â
âI am dancing,â I replied. Â âWould you like to join me?â
You stayed âFaithfullyâ by my side like someone âStone In Love.â
But your âLovinâ Touchinâ Squeezinââ impeded my movement.
You were âLiving On A Prayer.â
You didnât understand that I was a soloist, in love with the dance.
I was never meant to be âJesseâs Girl.â

When time flies
the toddler who hates nap timeÂ
becomes the teenager falling asleep in class.
The college student partying all night while still maintaining her GPA
becomes the mother climbing the corporate ladderÂ
and rushing home to make dinner.
The man forced into retirementÂ
replaced by someone less experienced
finally slows down long enough to look around.
Sees the life heâs been given
and prays for more years to enjoy it.

The conflagration seen for miles
Who knew how fast a mind could burn?
One spark
One scent
One familiar scene
All hell breaks loose
Emergency exits light the way
Abandon all
Nothing remains
Except the Soul
Survivor
Saved by fire

I tried to capture
Sun
shining diamonds on dancing Waters
Springâs
warm breath caressing my shoulders
Laughter
echoing round full wine glasses
Smileâs
joy inspired by Friendshipâs empathy
Learning instead
The most precious of Lifeâs moments canât be digitized
Only gently cradled in the heart

I Taught My Mirror To Lie
I gazed at my reflection displeased to see her looking back at me. She wasnât like the girls Iâd seen displayed in glossy magazines. She curved in places they were straight. It didnât matter what she ate. I looked at her and said, âyouâre fat,â you should be ashamed to look like that. I said it every day for years, often times through messy tears. My body changed, my mind did not. The message ingrained, never forgot. One day the scales fell off my eyes, and I beheld a great surprise. I had become what I had feared. I hadnât noticed because year-by-year. The mirror of my mind complied, and a larger image it had supplied. What was a lie had now come true. Thatâs what lying to a mirror will do to you. ©Cee Hunter

âYou wonât tell, will you?
Letâs keep it between us.â
I donât want anyone to know.
People will think itâs my fault.
Better to hide behind a smile.
Pretend nothingâs changed.
Itâs hard to smile behind a mask.
Laughter becomes choking.
Innocence dies
a horrific death
What do I cling to now that trust is shattered?
How can I grasp with bleeding hands, cut by the shards?

The scenes are different, but the soul crushing fear is the same
Iâm trapped in a cage of compassion
worried about everyone, but me
Only this time the familiar feelings trip an alarm
alerting my mind to the violation
I pick the lock with a hair pin
And rescue myself from your clutches.

Always alone in the trenches
until you took up the fight
Walking together into battle
victory was assured
In the silent momentsÂ
when the guns quieted
and the smoke cleared
I saw my likeness in your face,
recognized a familiar timbre in your voice
I began to hope
to dream of life beyond war
But this is not a fairytale,
the sunset of our days blinded us
and we stumbled in opposite directions
Sometimes I wish I believed in reincarnation
just so I could cling to the hope that
in one of our lifetimes
the cards of fate line up
and we will be together
Or if not that,
to at least have another chance
to not lean in.
