To lighten up on the angst, I bet Wukong and Macaque are so jealous of Shanzha and Rin Rin for being the only ones to get to see (even babier) baby Yue.

Yue was so small when they met her, but Shanzha has the baby pictures/stories goods that they crave

Oh, Shadowpeach for SURE are jealous that Iceflower got to see a younger Yue. Unfortunately, since it's ancient China and the Zodiac Monkey Clan wouldn't have spared the expenses to hire an artist to paint baby Yue, there are no baby pictures. It a tragedy. The best Shadowpeach can get are stories from Iceflower about how tiny Yue was.

MORE ANGST!!! This is painful! Sad monkey hours!!! The parallel would be devastating. (And I do like my contrasting parallels...)

I know that it’s gonna happen eventually, but I’m a monster and enjoy the idea of Yue’s parents not seeing her again until after the LBD possession

it’s just a nonstop gut punch for them- first Wukong leaving without explaining, Macaque’s fight with him, they get Yue back only to have to leave her to help Wukong, they find out about the mountain fire and return home to their children missing and the mountain in ashes…..

And then potentially finding their eldest again, only to have her effectively be lost to them for the time being 😭

This would the nightmare scenario for all of them. God, just being too late for their kids every single time. They’ll be traumatized and guilt ridden no matter how things end.

Hahaha, I'm glad you liked it! This was a pretty heavy chapter so it's partially the reason why it took a while to get out (that and real life).

Yue is pretty badass with her seals, isn't she? I mean, she better be with those years studying her monkey butt off. She's also an overthinker so she's been making this specific seal ever since she got stuck with the Thrall. Behind a simple seal-slapping scene is Yue pouring over many combinations of seals to cut the Thrall from LBD for hours, even pulling some overnighters.

Fire evacuation protocols are key. Yue always needs an exit plan, even for her people. She's learned from the Titanic and she's NOT going to assume that her kingdom is unburnable.

Peng is still very, very petty - for old scars and recent ones. (No Erlang and Nezha's divinity!!!! You would've made such OP party members. RIP. Sorry for doing that to your favs.)

What can I say? I did warn all of you that the price of Act II and Act III will be some angst. No more cute baby monkey fluff. (Okay, I lied. There’s still some baby monkey fluff because of the twins.)

I mean!!! I made it clear that Erlang was an ally and mentor figure! How were you supposed to know he’d be hijacked?

The Fillet/Circlet is going to be such a major plot point and point of contention. It’s why the dynamics between the pilgrims are slightly different. Because Wukong is more than aware that Yue would’ve been the one wearing the fillet if he didn’t step in.

Yes, every monkey who managed to reach the transportation circles or the boats made it safely. Some monkeys were sent over to the Zodiac Monkey Territory. Some of the monkeys were sent over to the Spirit Macaque Territory. Some of the monkeys were sent over to the Demon Bull Territory. And the rest fled over to the mainland by boat. Yue made sure to drill the evacuation protocols into her people to the point that it’s second nature. It’s probably why the casualty was as low as it was.

I have a more question!

You said in one of the chapter afterwords that Yishan was the type of yandere that got jealous of his own child for the attention his beloved gave her. My question is, what was Yue’s mama’s feelings towards Yishan?

It was said that she was more or less shuffled around from place to place, miserable, and that Yishan was more or less infatuated at first sight. What was their relationship like?

Yue's Mama, Sangshen, was grateful to her husband for saving her from her miserable situation. After years of being mistreated and beaten down, Yishan was her saving grace and safe harbor. It wasn't love at first sight for her. Was Yue's Mama ever in love with Yishan? It's complicated. Since there's such a huge imbalance between the two, it's hard to separate genuine feelings of love from the feelings forced out because it was what kept Sangshen free from slavery.

Sangshen was also a little afraid of Yishan. The contrast between how he treated her with how he treated everyone else was as different as the sky and the earth. She was also painfully aware of his obsession over her. His annoyance and dislike of Yue ever since her birth didn't help matters either.

Sangshen did her best to temper Yishan's yandere tendencies by "feeding the beast" with affectionate words and actions. Obsession and power imbalance aside, they were a mostly loving couple. Yishan treated her well.

fjdjd I know something’s coming, I just already know that I’m not gonna be emotionally prepared for the aftermath. That, and if Erlang isn’t the one doing the burning…. Who is?

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Haha, Yue managed to keep her cool throughout that entire Bowen proposing debacle mostly because she was in disbelief at the sheer audacity of the boar.

Nezha and Erlang are no match for Yue - not that they mind "losing" in this situation since now it meant that they didn't have to keep any secrets away from her. The entire situation felt unfair.

But still. Yue was a little cheeky for doing her classic "drop the info bomb" move right when everyone least expects it.

Macaque is going out of his mind with overprotectiveness and worry for Yue. It's the first Spring Season she's of age to participate in. He just doesn't want her stolen away. Or choose to leave the "nest" so soon. Or get her heart broken.
