Updates to the CFAA

Whilst duking it out with depression, I decided to build a new iconset for the CFAArchive, update the Underage warning to Underage Sexual Content and to add three new relationship tags. So, now the CFAA has the following relationship tags available: F/F, F/M, Gen, M/M, Multi, NB/F, NB/M, NB/NB, Other, QPR and vs.

I made the iconset myself; anyone is welcome to use them on an otw-archive install or a userskin, though they are pretty CFAA themed, just drop me credit somewhere in some obscure corner if you do use them for public consumption!

Thanks to @uuuuutan for walking me through the database inserts and to @squidgiepdx for jumping out in front with the NB tags.

Artist Scam

There's an artist scam going around on all fanfiction websites (including attempts on the CFAA), whereby someone comments on a fic saying they were so inspired, they'd like to do paid work for you.  Sometimes these are lazy plug-and-play comments that have no story details, sometimes they're more elaborate, but they are always a scam.  Always.  I'm going to be watching (this is why the invite queue has such a long delay), but if you get one of these comments via guest commenting or anything else, let me know on Discord or Tumblr ASAP.

1.) No real artists begs for commissions on peoples' fanfiction.

2.) Commercialization of the CFAA (and AO3! and every other archive running OTW-A!) is against the terms of service and will be dealt with swiftly and harshly.

3.) They'll steal your money.  If they give you anything back, it'll be some lazy, AI-generated bullshit.  Don't fall for it.  A real artist fan of your work who was that inspired would almost always either draw for it and gift it to you, or would ask if they could draw for it and gift it to you.  I've done that myself.  What they will never do is come and ask you for money.

Be safe out there, this is going on everywhere.

Jean-Paul waits for the next full moon. Cassandra waits with him.

Story recommendation:  Opening moody with a drifting Jean-Paul dreaming of things that never existed, this Vampire/Werewolf AU starts off with just enough exposition to bring the reader into the story. With Cass sitting bedside, a vampire meeting her new werewolf patrol partner, it quickly turns warm and kind of sweet.

Even though Jean-Paul really isn’t necessarily handling being a werewolf well, though, his quickly building friendship with Cass in this short piece is charming and gentle.  She can clearly see through him but treads lightly, and his acceptance of her in turn is likewise just as kind, making for a kind of positive relationship that it’s obvious that both of them genuinely need.

The end of the story wraps up sweet, certain to make you smile.

SquidgeWorld Archive

Open to all fandoms, SqWA is run under the nonprofit squidge.org! In addition to the archive there, Squidge also offers image hosting, podfic hosting and a bunch of other excellent services. Beyond that, it utilizes more extensive archive warnings than AO3 and also accommodates two additional relationship categories! SqWA has a no-AI policy that is both up front legally and implemented behind the scenes through various coding measures.

Ad Astra :: Star Trek Fanfiction Archive

A single-fandom Star Trek fanfiction archive, this one's home for any and all Trek fandom! Using the same warnings as AO3, but a much stricter (and therefore searchable) tagging scheme, Ad Astra's also connected to one of the friendliest and most supportive Trek communities on the internet! We run weekly challenges, monthly review/comment hunts and like the other archives, we take a very hardline stance against AI both in actual terms and in firewalling the site. AI 'bots can't even reach the server before getting sucked into a black hole of 4XX errors and bannination jail!

There's an additional QPR (Queer-platonic relationships) tag accepted in the form of Character A ~ Character B, as well. Two invitations go out once a day, unless you want to contact me directly, then I can send one immediately.

Run off of a macbook by a very talented young person, superlove is for all fandoms and original fiction and pretty much whatever else melo wants to open the doors for! In addition to the same archive warnings and relationships available to people using AO3, superlove also has a few more warnings that users can use and both QPR and vs. tags for queer-platonic and adversarial relationships. Given this is largely a private project, please make sure you review the rules carefully.

Comic Fanfiction Authors Archive

The CFAArchive is an archive built specifically for comic book and comic animation adjacent fandoms, rather than live-action properties! It uses the same archive warnings as AO3 and Ad Astra, but has the two additional tags QPR and vs. for queer-platonic and adversarial relationships! Much like Ad Astra, the tagging scheme on the CFAA is very strict to maximize searchability and minimize tag-spamming. There's also an attached Discord, where we run a bi-weekly writing challenge, the occasional comment/review hunt and a monthly focus feature where everyone reads a book, discusses it and creates based on it! If you love comic books and comic animation properties, this is the place for you!

Much like Ad Astra, the filtering out of AI 'bots is extremely strict; they get 4XX'd into oblivion and so far, none have gotten through since the new firewall rules were implemented, so you actually can leave works unlocked if you like with minimal (though never nonexistent) concern about them being scraped.

Let's face it, Halloween is an awesome time of the year. Especially if you happen to be writing costumed superheroes, because you can bet they'd be into it. Of course, there are more ways to take this prompt too: Taking the trick or the treat literally, for example. Or finding a theme behind the saying.

As somewhat suggested by user oracle, this bi-weekly challenge is about Secrets or Lies (or, obviously, both!). It could be something benign, like someone's surprise party being planned, or it could be something awful, like impending betrayal. Sometimes it could be both, too, because those two things often go hand-in-hand.

White lies? Sure. Really horrible secrets? Also sure! However you want to interpret the prompt is up to you, so write between 100 and 1000 words on the subject and submit it to the Challenge collection on the archive with the freeform tag Bi-Weekly Challenge #5: Secrets or Lies (or Both).

Bi-Weekly Challenge #4: Autumn

The first day of autumn just passed in the northern hemisphere; in North America, that usually means apple cider, pumpkin spice and other treats. Depending on where you are, it can mean gearing up for Halloween. The days are getting shorter regardless of the continent you call home, at least on the northern half of this planet, but this is also the season for cozy sweaters, bonfires, cuddling. After sweltering heat, long gray days of rain can seem their own kind of comforting.

Autumn can also refer to an ending; to the inevitability of an encroaching winter. And it can be pretty mixed for those with seasonal affective disorder.

However you interpret it, your next bi-weekly challenge is on the theme of Autumn! Write between 100 and 1000 words and add it to the challenge collection on the archive. When you do, use the freeform tag Bi-Weekly Challenge #4: Autumn!

But here, you can take it as being in a similar vein -- your heroes faced with a situation where there's no real way to win it -- or you can completely go the opposite direction into something light and humorous and I just can't win!

Anyway, be it a bloody end against impossible odds or a day where the coffee's cold and your muses stub their toes on bedframes and run out of toilet paper, however you choose to use the prompt is yours! Could it be interpersonal? Sure! Could it be interdimensional? Also sure! Interpret it however liberally or strictly you like and write between 100 and 1000 words on the topic!

The CFAArchive's first bi-weekly challenge is First Times! This prompt can be interpreted however liberally or strictly as you like; is it the first battle of a brand new hero (or villain)? A first kiss? First time falling into bed with someone? How about first injuries? Or maybe the first day as a part of a new team?

Any which way, write between 100 and 1000 words on the theme and then, when you upload it to the CFAA, add it to the challenge collection and use the freeform/additional tag Bi-Weekly Challenge #1: First Times!
