Rant on censorship in fandom bc I’m bored.

I’ve been seeing a lot of people have fandom discourse on this subject so I thought I’d send my thoughts out into the void. The concept of not censoring stuff like Ao3 I am almost totally behind but what I feel like a lot of people miss when talking about this, is that not all platforms are equal. For example NSFW shouldnt be allowed on TikTok, it just shouldn’t. These people I’ve been seeing (espically on TikTok) however fail to mention the fact that “Hey while censoring Ao3 is bad there should be censorship on platforms catered to minors” Which in my opinion is a lot of the issue people have with NSFW material on the internet. Unlike Tumblr or Ao3 where you are actively seeking it out, TikTok has no message or warning or even TOS guideline saying “oh by the way NSFW is on here” And there in lies the issue. I believe minors should be able to access and see NSFW however their first exposure should not be through a TikTok that they didn’t ask to see on their FYP. They should be allowed and able to seek that material out on their own and not forced to see it for the first time on a platform that is supposed to not have it. Even not talking about minors it’s in my opinion a matter of consent, no one should have to see nudity or graphic content if they don’t want to.

(Side note, the Ao3 thing, while I won’t get into it as much because innocent people dying shouldn’t be talked about merely for “ha gotcha moment”, I do find it hypocritical and worth making known, Ao3 already censors talk about the genocide in Gaza on their platform.)

Rant post incoming (TW 🍇 and pro shipping mentions)

I’m just gonna scream my thoughts into the void here because I can and cuz there’s no word limit. To get straight to the point graphic pro shipping content should not be posted on TikTok point blank period. I don’t care if it’s coping, it’s a platform that has minors on it and it’s against the TOS. I’m tired of people defending them by saying “oh but there coping” then go on a site that at least allows it. Do not post that NSFW stuff on a site that one, has minors, and two doesn’t allow that content. Not to mention a lot of these people disregard the fact that some people who have similar trauma get episodes when they see that content. Overall I’m just sick of pretending that we should allow this stuff on TikTok.
