igniferum:
Long dead? No, he shakes his head, lips parted slightly as though wrapped in a trance by her peculiar words. ❝ I… I don’t know if Navi would want me to say this. She’s always tellin’ me to be careful, but… I don’t think you’d try to hurt me. I know it’s silly to trust someone so fast, but… ❞ Link inhales, mimicking her pose, though he doesn’t intend to. Fingers curl together into loose fists in his lap, and he rubs his index finger against his thumb, looking out at the curb. ❝ Ruto is a sage. She helped me, and I think… I think she’s still helpin’ me. ❞
The boy reaches into a pouch, gaze softening as his fingers brush along a sleek metal object. Before he pulls it out, however, he looks up, blue eyes alert. And then he shifts to better face Mipha, hiding the object in his hands from the rest of the world. ❝ Yeah. Ruto’s with me right now, as we speak. I know she is. ❞ The medallion he shows her glows softly in his palms, casting a blue light upon his gauntlets. Link stares down at it, throat tightening.
Ruto sacrificed so much to give this to him. He wishes he could hear her voice again, from any of the sages, just to hear something familiar. Link brushes his thumb along the rim of the cerulean relic, then looks up to Mipha. ❝ Princess– Mipha… I think I’m startin’ to understand what’s goin’ on here. You talk about the people I know like some kind of fable… ❞
It’s a half baked theory. He’s not sure if Navi would approve of it or not, or even whether it makes sense. But it’s the best shot he has when he’s standing in the dark, lost in this world with a Zora who looks nothing like the people he is familiar with. ❝ Time… it’s not the same for me as it is for you, or for… ❞ He glances at the passerbys who continue to hustle through the marketplace. ❝ Or for them. I think… I think I mighta found myself farther upstream than I should be. ❞ A borrowed phrase, from a friend he misses as dearly as Navi herself. Link stows the medallion away and gazes up at Mipha’s face, gauging her almost as intently as she had been gauging him. Does she believe him? What does she make of all this?
Honestly, it’s killing him to have the opinion of someone else on all this nonsense. He’s not used to having to make his adventures alone. If only he hadn’t taken Navi’s wisdom for granted.
She listens attentively; it's something she's adept at doing, something she always found herself a part of. Mipha would much rather listen than speak in most cases, but....perhaps in another life. Or perhaps now, when she no longer had station to tend to. What he says is strange, but his expression and tone are so full with conviction that she can't help but try and make sense of it. Mipha reminds herself that she should not let bias cloud her judgement; for his sake, as well as her own. In the grand scheme of things it seemed this didn't matter; regardless of where he came from, he would eventually go back. And she would too, to finally rest at ease. So whether she believed him or not, whether he was delusional or deceitful...he really stood to gain nothing from it. And really, this world was far too strange to think anything impossible. Mipha stares at her hands again, expression contemplative. Once he's had enough time to say what he would, she lets the silence persist for a few more moments. Then, she speaks. "I...knew someone. He came to me just when I thought all hope lost. He came to me one hundred years after we'd seen eachother last, looking just the same as he had back then. He was a boy from Hateno, a Hylian just as you are." she won't mention his name, not now. Link had enough on his mind. "...so I understand, when you speak of time. It is not so strange." she smiles gently in reassurance, before gazing at the medallion. It was not familiar to her, though the craftsmanship was something similar to what she knew. Not of the Zoras, but of something much older. "Princess Ruto...yes, I'm sure she must be watching over you. Your friend Navi, too. You will find where you're supposed to be."

It had been a fish that she'd never come across. Mipha took her time examining it, scent and texture, before deciding it would be safe to eat in its current form. Her stomach growled loudly, but she paid it no heed--where she was from, the noise was associated with appreciation of a meal. Eyeballs and all, half the creature disappears between bared teeth. Juices leak past her lips, and Mipha closes her eyes in relief. It was succulent, and so easy to afford! Unfortunately, she'd been perhaps a little more loud than intended. Noticing eyes on her, she ducks her head before she can stop herself. She shouldn't be embarrassed, and yet so many here thought her habits beast-like...Mipha quickly swallows the rest of the fish with a painful grimace. She takes a deep breath, hoping to redeem herself, and pointedly stares at him. "I did not disturb your meal, did I?" @onyxtogod

He notes her ill expression, and steps forward, turning a hand offered in handshake to an elbow for support if she requires it. Though the boy watches her with a furrowed brow, not making sense of anything she says– ( King Dorephan? No, no… the only king he knows of is King Zora… the twentieth? Fifteenth? Something like that. ) he nonetheless turns his attention from figuring out what is going on, to finding her a safe place to rest.
❝ Over there ? ❞ He says, gesturing to a bench in front of a store. It’s no refuge from the murmur of conversation and smog-ridden air, but at least it’s hidden beneath a sunshade. Whether she takes his arm or not, the boy heads over there, though he doesn’t stray too far from the other in case she collapses.
Seating himself, he keeps himself leaned forward, gripping the edge of the bench with both hands in case he needs to act fast, or get her something. ❝ This is… real strange, Mipha. ❞ He blinks, bites his lip, and shakes his head. ❝ Princess Mipha. Or do you want me to just call you Princess… ? ❞ A pause. Link drums his fingers nervously against the wood. ❝ I think both of us are confused. You don’t know what I’m talking about, I don’t know what you’re talking about… the only king I know is King Zora, and the only daughter I thought he had was Ruto… ❞
Link hangs his head and shakes it. ❝ Navi would know how to make sense of this all if she were here. ❞
Either he is an astute boy or she's being particularly obvious without meaning to be--how shameful, she truly needed to find some long-term solution for traversing this realm. She'd come across something known as a 'pool', but it belonged to someone else and thus couldn't become permanently inhabited. It had also bore a pungent scent that she didn't know quite how to feel about. If only there were a river here--she'd settle for a beach, at this rate. At least then she'd only have to worry about headaches and not drying up. Mipha was in no real danger, but no access to freshwater would inhibit her ability to defend herself. Though perhaps under other circumstances she would have politely declined, she leans on his good will. Zora were not so prideful as to be unwilling to seek help, but she did not want this to become routine. Once seated Mipha shakes her head of the daze. She offers a small but grateful smile. "Mipha, if you would. My birth means little here." It's strange, hearing her name come from someone so like a dream. Perhaps she'd wake, only to find herself trapped within Van Ruta once again-- No, best not to dishonor his memory in such a way. She rebukes herself silently before becoming attentive once more. "Navi--is that a friend of yours? She must be wise, the way you trust her so." the way he speaks her name with such faith is endearing. Mipha folds her hands in her lap. King Zora and...could it really be? "...Ruto. I've only heard stories, but the princess I know of became a great sage and..." she glances off, blinking in recollection. What a strange tale it had been; how long would this cycle of sealing Calamity Ganon go on? She'd disappeared, and that detail was one Mipha focused on in her initial preparation to annihilate Calamity Ganon once and for all. The thought of passing had been frightening, but for the sake of her people--for him, she would do it again. "...she was a princess I could only hope to be like. But...how is it you come to speak of her with such familiarity?" she's staring at him now, eyes wide with scrutiny as if searching his very soul. "She is as old as legend, and if she did truly exist--she would be long dead."

She hopes she won't come off as intrusive, but for personal reasons Mipha can't hold her tongue. She makes a careful approach so that the stranger isn’t startled, and bows her head politely.
"...pardon me--I couldn't help but notice that your pearl is so well-cared for. It reminds me of one I used to admire when I was very young."

His statement is concerning and makes little sense. Terrifying monster...? The Zora were predatory to be sure, but they'd long since given up their more aggressive behaviors in favor of keeping peace with surrounding peoples.
"Tell me," she begins curtly, tone even and polite, "Do you think everyone that appears different is some threat in disguise?"

igniferum:
To take offence at her question never once crosses his mind. Link laces his fingers behind his back, knowing somewhere in the back of his mind that if Navi were here, she’d tell him to stop staring and be polite. Her unique appearance is too much to look away from, however, and he cocks his head to one side, then the other, examining her with obvious fervour.
She asked you a question, Link realizes with a blink. ❝ Y-yeah ! ❞ He snaps his jaw shut, and offers her a curt nod. ❝ I don’t really know where we are, and maybe now isn’t the right time or place, but… ❞ Coming to his senses, it occurs to him that there are much more important things to be doing than ogling a Zora for her odd colors. Link offers a solemn smile, the youthful gleam in his eye vanishing with an almost alarming suddenness. ❝ I’m glad Zora’s Domain thawed enough for you to get out. I– I know I was all caught up with your scales– I didn’t even ask for your name. ❞
The young hero extends his hand. ❝ I hope everyone else is okay. I’m Link. ❞
Her heart stutters painfully, and Mipha is suddenly aware again of how dry the air is. All of her attempts to rationalize his identity come to a halt when he says his name, mentions her home-- ...thawed? That takes her aback, allows her to concentrate on something else for the moment. Mipha frowns in concern, stroking her jaw in thought. Zora's Domain had never been frozen, even in the region’s most dreadful winters.
"I..." she feels short of breath, all of the sudden, "I do not know of what it is you speak, Link." the name feels strange on her tongue, but comforting nonetheless. Each time she says it feels like a prayer that will bless him, wherever he may be in his life.
"I am Mipha. Perhaps you know of my father, the good king Dorephan. But in all his reign he has never mentioned a thaw. The Domain is guarded from such; only the outlying lakes surrounding it freeze during the winter." A pause; she finally acknowledges light-headedness. Mipha was normally more resilient to such things, but the air here was stale and polluted. She resists the urge to fan herself, and glances off with a heavy weight on her heart. “...do you mind if we find shade, Link?”

He spots her in a crowd. The finned hair, aquatic traits. There’s no doubt about it; she’s a Zora. Not one he recognizes from his era– but a Zora nonetheless. ❝ S-sorry… ❞ he murmurs, slipping through the bustling market, shouldering his way through as gently as possible, until he reaches her, tapping her on the shoulder from behind.
Blue eyes glitter with a childlike curiosity. He looks her over, not knowing they stand thousands and thousands and thousands of years apart in time. ❝ Wow… I’ve never seen a Zora with red scales before. ❞
@championgraced ▲ liked for a starter.
His eyes are easily sensed. He is not the first to gawk, but there is something different, persistent, knowing in his gaze that prompts her to acknowledge it. And when she does, her breath catches. 'I've never seen a Zora with red scales before'--that statement alone is enough to conflict with her first assumption. It makes her heart sink, but she maintains composure as was trained. There were Zora all over the world, so she could only assume he from one of those far off lands. That he knew of her kind at all was both comforting and troubling; he didn't appear afraid, but she'd heard tales of more territorial Zora that let no one into their Domain. His ears, and that hair...he looks so very much like a Hylian, but she can't be sure if that's just a sad heart causing her to see things. Mipha bows respectfully, maintaining eye contact once she rose from it.
"...Zora come in all colors. I am blessed with my mother's scales, as is my brother--but our father is different from us. Are you..." she pauses, hesitant, "...Hylian, by chance?" hopefully she would not offend and sour this meeting, one that felt delivered by the Cosmos.

♔; ALERT is the princesas he walks within the streets of the city, his golden optics looking to and fro as he does so. As magnificent as this place may be, it doesn’t distract the Zora from the fact that he has been ripped away from his home; a place where he is greatly needed. As such, the monarch can’t help but begin to worry within the back of his mind, his thoughts with his father and his people.
How long will it take for him to get back to Zora’s Domain? Will everything be alright in his absence? These and many more questions begin to flood within Sidon’s mind, temporarily clouding his sight as he continues to speedily stride throughout the city. Before long, he finds himself within a small marketplace, his tall stature towering over most of the ordinary citizens of the city and therefore drawing many a gaze towards himself.
However, such a fact seems to matter little to him at the moment. Even now he continues to look around for something, anything, that may lead him back to his home… Though as soon as his eyes meet the gaze of someone so very familiar to him, the prince immediately halts within his tracks. Even his breath itself seems to stop for a moment as Sidon continues to lock his optics on the smaller Zora, his expression incredulous as he stares at her.
❝ … Mipha…? ❞ comes his answer, as soft as a whisper as his lips part for a moment. While he certainly heard her words, they didn’t seem to fully register to the prince and really, who could blame him? Standing before him is none other than the visage of his long deceased sister, looking as lively as he remembers her being… And just as radiant, too.
Shock still apparent within his features, Sidon remains as still as ever as his mind begins to go through an incredible amount of emotions all at once. Of course, he is incredibly ecstatic at the sight of her but at the same time, he feels as if he might cry. While it’s true he had been quite young during the time of her passing, the memories he holds of her are still loving and strong; just as he always remembers her being.
❝ Ah, perhaps… I’m dreaming? But, your touch… It feels so real. I… I Don’t understand. ❞
From within Ruta's shell, Mipha caught only glimpses through the eyes of her counterpart. When straining she could view the Domain, but it was always eclipsed with gray and the sound of rain. Rarely did Zora or even wildlife venture too near the East Reservoir Lake, and so Mipha had resigned herselfto detachiment. So long as the Domain stood, imposing and beautiful, she reminded herself all would be well. Her father was wise, her brother kind. Her people were endlessly resilient. But even so, at times that reassurance was only a weak dam meant to prevent weeping. They stare at one another, at a loss. Had she thought this possible, Mipha might have scripted something more helpful to say--or perhaps say nothing at all. Her very approach was selfish, in retrospect; after all, she was still very much a ghost. And he...Goddess, she refused to consider that he too had somehow passed. Link had saved Hyrule, and all was well. Though her faith had faltered in those last few days, his arrival reinvigorated it. She stood steadfast in her decision to follow her heart once again. Mipha takes his hands in hers, their fingers curling into one another as one. She squeezes. "I know not what sorcery that makes flesh and bone of spirits. I am here, truly, but I...I cannot be sure how long it will last." an even tone wavers, last few words cracking in weakness. Her eyes well up and Mipha cries silently; it would not be fit to wail, not when she could look upon her brother one last time. Lips part into a small smile, emphasis of this fact. "I-I knew you would grow, but I still see my tadpole of a brother. How very surreal." Mipha swallows, working to regain her composure. The tears haven't stopped, but they are nothing to be ashamed of.
"You have father's strong shoulders...a-and his jaw, I see. Your smile must be radiant."
