Star Trek 4 will Reunite JJ Abrams and Chris Pine’s Crew – insiderfolks, Paramount is getting the Enterprise gang back together. No, not the ensemble of the 1960s TV show turned film series, but the cast of the J.J. Abrams reboot, which debuted in 2009 and went on to feature in two further films. The news was made by Paramount executive Brian Robbins and producer J.J. Abrams during the company’s investor presentation on Tuesday, but no specifics were given. There are no contracts in place, but Paramount expects that returning cast members will include Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaa, and John Cho, who have all appeared in three films since 2009’s Star Trek. The announcement signals a breakthrough to relaunch Trek on the big screen. The studio has been attempting to reassemble the ensemble since at least 2018, when talks with Pine and Chris Hemsworth, who played a minor part in Abrams’ 2009 picture, fell down. Since then, Paramount has attempted to revitalize the concept, with filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino and Noah Hawley taking stabs at projects that did not progress. Pine also appeared as Captain Kirk in Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016), his most recent feature film. The next Star Trek film will be directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman, with Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires reworking a story written by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Trek has mostly survived on the tiny screen in recent years, with various streaming programs on Paramount+, including Star Trek Discovery and Picard. At Paramount’s investor day, executives stated that the studio was focused on creating franchises that could live on both the Paramount+ streaming service and the big screen, with other projects announced including a third Sonic the Hedgehog film and a live-action TV spinoff starring Idris Elba’s Knuckles. A Quiet Place Part III, directed by John Krasinski, will be released in 2025. The first-person shooter game, released in 2007 by 2K Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two, was set in Rapture, a crumbling underwater city whose society was fragmented by civil war, with many inhabitants addicted to a genetic enhancement serum that gave them super-human powers while also living in fear of Big Daddies, mutated humans who had been grafted into diving suits. The game’s protagonist, Jack, is thrust into this universe as a survivor of a mysterious plane accident in the Atlantic Ocean. Since its original release, the game has sold millions of copies, and it has been followed by two sequels, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite, which enlarged the dystopian world by combining action, sci-fi, and horror. The title is still on lists of the finest video games ever made. Almost immediately, Hollywood came knocking, with a film project set up at Universal and Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski signed to oversee. However, two obstacles surfaced shortly after that would accompany the project for the following decade: a budget and an R-rating. Verbinski and following filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo clashed with the company, even getting months away from filming one version before the game’s creators called it quits. Video game adaptations have done exceptionally well for Netflix, arguably none more so than The Witcher. No Way Home earned $1.615 million on Monday, its 60th day of release, bringing its domestic total to $760.988 million. Avatar grossed a total of $760.508 million in North America over the course of its run: $749.766 million from its initial release plus $10.741 million from a “Special Edition” re-release in August 2010. No Way Home has grossed over $1.8 billion worldwide, with overseas markets accounting for $1.047 billion of the total (the film has yet to see a release in China). Tom Holland, who starred in No Way Home, will next be seen in Sony’s Uncharted, an adaptation of the PlayStation video game Naughty Dog. Last weekend, the picture grossed $21.5 million in 15 outside regions, and it will be released in North American theaters on Friday.
