this idea might be sad and weird but i've been binge-reading strange academy recently sooo

a warlock (or potentially even a paladin) that gets their powers from a gaslamp-esque trader. some cycle of doom can also be used in this scenario, with the warlock being in debt towards the gaslamp patron that pays off in a real bad way.

just an idea. because how cool would little cages of magic be?

i named an npc entei once. she's a colossal dryad (a homebrew race i made) descended from giant peaceful farming/herding tree people. i also completely forgot entei is the name of a pokemon

Add realism to your fantasy stories by having characters from different backgrounds struggle to pronounce each others' names.

"My name is [low guttural sound] but I don't want to hear you butcher it. So you may call me She Who Arises With The Cold Mountain Sun."

"...Is that what your name really means? All that in just one word?"

"Yes. If you stress the wrong syllable it comes out as 'She Who Coldly Wakes Up The Mountain Sun', or 'The Cold Woman Who Wakes The Mountain Sun', and you will not call me that."

"Oh, huh. Could we just call you Mountain Sun, for short?"

"Hmh. It's boastful, almost bordering on blasphemy, but it is flattering. I accept it."

idea branching off of this:

a oneshot where the party are stupid teens summoning an ancient god (for the laughs). it doesn't work, and now the party are being hunted by the god's servants for bothering them.

it’s always 'wyd' and never 'do you wanna go and summon some spirits in the forest at dusk'

An entire race of creatures that perfectly resembles, detached human arms, but happily go about their business, have their own small villages, and are lightly disturbed when they see humans.

Humans get to feel the same way a chimera feels when it sees a singular goat or snake or lion just walking around on its own.

­I was going to delete this as just kind of "this is a weird thing with no context", but I love the final section.

fetchify update

good news first, i've named my new oneshot/potential campaign! it's called fetchify because... well, it's a fetch quest

it was intended to be four hours. knowing me and my players, we're at seven hours now

When I was in my teens, I used to make an entire magic system with 360+ unique spells, ordered in magic schools and categories, and it boggles my mind that I basically reinvented DnD mechanics, even down to metamagic.

I wanted to make a wiki about it but I don't have time for it.

The point was to try to encompass every "superpower" I could think of into a magic system.

I even got lore related to it all, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna simply reuse it all for OC worldbuilding. Ngl the fun part was naming all the spells, symbols and coming up with the logic of it all.
