OH MY GOD THERE’S AN ANAGRAM IN EVERY SONG DESCRIPTION HOLY SHIT
Yup! The title tracks of all seven bonus tracks of A Well Manicured Lawn are hidden in the lyrics of the songs on YouTube. The first person to correctly guess all seven gets to hear the first bonus track early!

There are some similarities between the songbird from Idle Worship and Gail from A Well Manicured Lawn (the canary link, "hands around my throat," MANY smoking references), is this intentional/a part of the 'lore'? Or just for the aesthetics/anecdotal crossover?
I'd like to think that all my songs (albums and EPs) are connected in a way. But more in the way that the Barbie movies are connected and not in the way that the Marvel movies are connected.

not ‘least favourite,’ but any of your songs that you forget about?
Hm, I don't know if I can truly forget about any of the songs atm since I listened to them all so much in order to make the album. But ig the one that would qualify the most would be, "The Sims." It was actually a late addition to the album. It was written the same batch of November songs as most of the album. But originally, the tracklist was slightly different. I was listening back through the November songs and realized The Sims actually fit with the story of Gail. So, I added it (along with shifting around some other aspects of the album).
#if we're going by TS rules then the “vault” of A WELL MANICURED LAWN would be fullllll of songs#Like 20 or so extra songs that have been cut#so that's fun#a well manicured lawn#ask a clown#synthv#solaria#my posts

Also reading some previous posts and tbh - this may just be because I had to read it 27 times for an essay - but IHMMHBIWAD honestly reminds me a lot of A Jury of Her Peers.
That book has been on my TBR list for a long time. Maybe this summer I’ll finally get around to reading it

what's your favorite color?
Yellow, but specially golden yellow like the kind that Encaprichado is

Was Encaprichado supposed to cut off before the last "stay with me" was completed? Because if not it unintentionally made the song that much more impactful.
Yes! That was very purposeful. The two songs, "Encaprichado" and "Tea bags", are meant to be understood in relation to each other. I love the contrast between them.
I also do love "Encaprichado" as a full song, though. If SOLARIA ever gets a proper Spanish update, I want to release a version of the song using that with no cut off.

charm realising he has synesthesia arc
No fr tho 😭
I've said for years that I don't have synesthesia I just associate things with colors. And then I was complaining to a friend about how "White Suit" is such a purple song that it bothers me to see it with the album artwork (very yellow/green and not purple at all) and they said, "Oh, do you have synesthesia?" And I said, "no, just associate colors with songs and tastes and smells and numbers and letters, like...the normal amount." They said that sounded like synesthesia. So I looked more into it and realized I definitely have synesthesia.

Seeing a few Moral Orel icons pop up in the notes. Love that the fandom's still alive here on Tumblr. If anyone's curious, here the full song:

insanely hyped for the new album but ESPECIALLY the moral orel fan song that was mentioned many moons ago on the tiktoks... bloberta and clay, aromantic icons... i fear you are my spirit (balloon) animal
Hell yeah, that song is actually one of my favorites on the album, so I'm really excited to share it with everyone! I'm gonna use this ask as an excuse to talk more about it.
For those who don't know, I posted on my TikTok awhile back a video of me "poorly explaining every song on my album." For one of the songs (called "IHMMHYBIWAD," it has a really long title), I called it a "Moral Orel fan song," referring to the Adult Swim show, Moral Orel. Obviously the song isn't really a fansong. I just realized one day after binging a bunch of MO content and then listening to my music that my MC, Gail, is very similar to Bloberta. That song in particular could almost be about Bloberta.
There's an episode of Moral Orel that gets into Bloberta's backstory called "Help." Both Bloberta and Gail are young women trapped in societies that tell women that the only goal they should aspire to in life is to find a husband. From an outside perspective, we can see how that's a sexist idea. However, when you're in that society, and everyone around you is buying into this idea, it's hard to look outside of it. There's this scene where all of Bloberta's friends happily show off their rings and it cuts to Bloberta looking so distraught. I think about this part a lot.
It's such a simple shot, but it really shows how it feels to be in that society. How everyone around you seems so happy being married - like that ring signifies that you have worth and value because a man has chosen you. And how you end up feeling lesser because you are stuck alone.
The rest of the episode is about Bloberta chasing after that goal of finding a man to marry. Of course, we know by the rest of the show that Bloberta ends up horribly unhappy in her role as housewife. I often wonder what Bloberta would have done if she didn't feel pressured into this role of "wife" and "mother." We don't see her express any desire to do anything else. Because, in that culture, the only thing a woman can be is a wife. So she isn't even allowed to space to dream of being anything else.
This is the exact state that my MC, Gail, is in. She's a part of this cult that is obsessed with the idea of love and soulmates. Her whole life, she has been told that she will one day meet the One, the person that she was made for. And then she will become that person's wife. But Gail is aromantic. She's met many men, but she's never felt for them the things she was told she would feel. She's torn between her desire to be a wife and a mother (like she's been told to want since she was born) and her desire to be something more.
The song before IHMMHYBIWAD is from the perspective of the cult leader and his wife, where they talk about how Gail needs to be "fixed" and how they're going to help her out. In the bridge, they suggest that she imagine her life in the future where she has found the One. So, Gail does imagine that. And the more she thinks about it, the more she thinks that it would be absolutely horrible. That's what IHMMHYBIWAD is about, this hypothetical future she that sees for herself where she's married to some man. In the song, she bemoans how women are only seen by men as pretty things to be collected and used. And how people keep telling her that this is what she's made for and that she should listen to them, but she can't help but feel that something is wrong.
I hope you like the song! Again, it's one of my favorites on the album. It's also one of the oldest songs, having been written back in 2022. I may have to make a mini edit of Moral Orel to the song. It doesn't perfectly fit Bloberta and Clay, but I could make it work.

Any additional thoughts on "I hate the smoke?" Current contender for favourite, may have cried a bit (a lot)
Oh, I could definitely talk more about I Hate the Smoke!
This is a song that I wrote back in 2022 (actually wrote most of these songs November 2022). But I didn't produce the song until May 2025 (last month).
I'm glad to hear that you connected with the song. This song does touch on one element of the album I wanted to talk about. That being the "It gets better" of it all. A lot of elements of Gail's life and struggles were inspired by my life at the time. The whole album is soaked in this fear that Gail will be abandoned by the people she loves (and that this is because of her failure to find and fall in love with The One, the only person who could love her despite her flaws).
It's so strange to look back on this album in 2025. Back in 2022, I was so certain that everyone that I loved would leave me and never come back. But the person that inspired "You Remind Me," a song about being certain your relationship with this new person won't last, was the first person I texted when I finished this album. The person that inspired "Mashed Potatoes and Gravy," a song about someone being missing in your life who used to be your closest friend, is going to be moving in with me in a few days. Even the guy who told me I would "inevitably" destroy him ended up reaching out and we became friends again (even though that didn't quite work out, but that story is so long and complicated it could be its own entire album, probably called something like Folly because of how foolish I was acting). I'm also almost one year clean from nicotine.
I wish I could tell my past self, the one who wrote these songs, about what our life would look like by the time we were done with the album. Because sometimes it really does get better. It is possible to escape terrible situations, improve your mental health, and end up in a much better place. It's not like I'm magically 100% healed from everything. But I'm so grateful for my current life. And I hope that anyone who can relate to this album is able to heal from their emotional scars and find peace.
#lowkey went off and didn't actually talk much about the song but I hope that's okay#ask a clown#music#a well manicured lawn#aromantic#my posts#I hate the smoke#also the reason I wrote most of these songs November 2022 is because#for some reason I decided to challenge myself to write a song every day for a month#so I did that#and then I took a lot of those songs and also some other songs I had written and it became this album

I get if it's meant to be a ~mystery~ or just an easter egg, but is there any meaning behind the motif of the songbird/canary? I have my own ideas, but I'm curious about your thoughts
I won't go too much into detail (I like to let people have their own interpretations) but the canary motif was very purposeful! It's alluding to the idea of a canary in a coal mine, because I very much think of Gail as being the canary in the "coal mine" of her society.

any of your new songs you wish could've had a music video? (or with music videos planned?)
Ideally, I would love to have MVs for "You Remind Me" and "White Suit," also maybe "I haven't met my husband yet." I am currently planning to make an MV for "The Sims" (not to spoil, but I already made Gail in the Sims and everything). I would like to make MVs for the other three because they're my favorite songs on the album.
"You Remind Me" is the one least likely to get an MV, just because I don't have a clear vision in my head for what it would look like. For "White Suit," I could probably scribble out a basic animatic for it because I have that vision in my head of what every shot would look like. But me and PinkA are both really busy so it's unlikely that would ever be finished.
As for "I haven't met my husband yet," I honestly think it would be funny to make a Moral Orel edit to the song. That could also be something I genuinely do, but I'm not sure if I would upload it onto my main channel. I don't want to give people the impression that it's literally just a Moral Orel fanning because I swear the similarities are all coincidences (◞ ⸝⸝ ◟ )
In short, "The Sims" will be getting a MV in the coming weeks. Maybe one day some of the other ones will get something!

Jamming to the new album right now, and I'm wondering... What's on Gail's face on the cover?
So glad someone asked this! It's meant to be a Scold's Bridle, which was a form of punishment used in medieval times almost exclusively for women. It prevented the wearer from speaking and was often used to silence women who committed the crime of "nagging."
