Frosti: He’s ‘Simply Southern’
CLICK TO LISTEN:: "SLOW GRINDING" by. FROSTI [produced X J. Soul]

During this Futuristic Era of hip-hop, everyone wants to be a trendsetter—from new catchphrases to new kicks. Striving to live by his motto "Loyalty over Royalty", Frosti believes in concentrating on the reality he faces, rather than how much he can obtain. Aware that trends are short-lived, he focuses on a lasting career by doing what he does best; he keeps it Southern, it’s as simple as that. Though the rapper favors living a less-complicated lifestyle, his childhood was a far-from-simple upbringing. His movement began when Kirkland was birthed on the wintry evening of December 10, 1983. Born inside a Chevrolet Caprice, the world has been cold to Frosti since day one (hence the name). He faced unstable living conditions in a small, underdeveloped city, which made the youth decide upon a mission to seek improvement and success for his family. The oldest of three, he is a country boy from Twin City, GA brought up by his mother and father, “Captain Kirk,” a local disc jockey and the root of his son’s musical mindset. Often home to care for his younger brothers while his parents worked, Frosti viewed scholastic time as his leisure time. While in high school, he and his associates teamed to form a rap group they termed The Goon Squad. It wasn’t long before his focus on a rap career became primary—his focus on school no longer a priority, so he suffered from behavior issues. His father soon grew tired of the troublesome teen being expelled from schools and decided to register Frosti into military school to learn a more disciplined form of education. A jack of all trades, Frosti later received vocational training in several fields, but continued writing lyrics and producing music for himself and others. His next goal was to expose his talents beyond his neighborhood, because he knew life in a small, country town would only get him so far. Following his father on military assignments, Frosti’s family migrated for a short period of time. Meanwhile, Frosti looked at his travels as a way of finding his big break, networking along the way. An underdog, Frosti was used to being underestimated because of his small stature, but used his big performances to disprove assumptions. It was in Statesboro, Georgia where Frosti caught the eye of producer Marcus “MP” Parks who knew he was the recipe for hits he longed to compose. The two collaborated on projects and later after linking back up in Atlanta recorded the mixtape "Who I'm Iz..... Kuntree 2 Da Kore". Complimenting tracks with his southern drawl, his lyrics depict life running in the streets of the country, which may not be rich in currency, but flourish in rich values. “The streets show a lot of love, but give a lot of pain.” From his first performance in Metter, Georgia to one of his latest singles “Keep Goin” he uses his experience and his message to represent his city and the southern struggle.
