I'VE JUST PLAYED THE GAME AND THIS IS THE ONLY TIMES I'VE PLAYED A VN THAT GENUINELY TERRIFIED ME. Is there an estimation to when the finished game will come out? No rush or anything! The amount of content in the current demo is already outstanding for me but I really can't wait to unveil the truth 😭
Btw I have a some questions. What does the three meters mean in the game? And are we already locked in to the endings at this point of the game? Does the meter matter in determining what endings we'll get depending on each of the percentages? How many branch of story can we get in the current gameplay?
OHHH thank you so much, gosh 🥹 I'm so happy you enjoyed it!!!
I don't like to give hard release dates for projects since 🤔 obviously lots of things happen, especially with very small teams/games primarily made by one person 😂 but I'm currently planning to release Day 5 sometime this fall, and the rest of the game early next year (Q1, so sometime between January and March!) However, I am waiting on a few assets from other artists for the full game that will take some time to complete 🤔 so this is still up in the air.
Regarding the three meters, these represent the three point systems in the game: Love, Empathy, and Trust (I go into this a little bit in the "Tips" section of the "Archives"). (I won't say which meter is which, since I do want people to just explore freely, at least on their first playthrough 😂 but rest assured that a walkthrough will be available after the full release!) These essentially reflect the strength of the MC's relationship with Morgan in various aspects, and these will change how the story branches and what ending you get. For instance, if you have High Empathy, you'll get a different set of events than Low Empathy. Each combination of points will lead to different endings as well (for instance, High Empathy, Low Love, and High Trust will have a different ending from Low Empathy, Low Love, and High Trust).
At this point in the story, you are largely locked into an ending, yes! I imagine I'll add a few more choices on Days 5 and 6 that will influence the ending as well, but not too many. And the current gameplay is fairly linear; there are a few branches based on your choices, but I'd say that the only major branching scene is when you're painting flowers on Day 3 (which affects which CG you receive).

hi there, miss chattercap!! apologies for dropping in, but i just finished playing the demo for mhias and absolutely loved it.
i simply can't wait for the mc to finally unravel the truth behind "morgan" like who are you (i have my theories however)???? give me my sweet, sincere, loving, glorious & many-more-positive-adjectives husband back????? i honestly cried a lil during old flashbacks with morgan bcs you can really see how much he loves mc even as they're going through a rough time 😔 and then, whoosh! ice cold water in our face when we come face to face with "morgan" in the house.
sorry for the ramble! thank you for sharing your amazing games with us ^^
Oh hello hello!! Thank you for dropping in 🥹
Gosh I'm so honored that you liked it, enough to come and leave me your thoughts 😭😭😭 And I'm happy that it resonated with you emotionally while still preserving the mystery 🤭 I honestly found this script a bit difficult to balance in that way (I was worried that people would find Morgan too sus to really feel invested in the relationship, or vice versa 😂) so I'm glad that it at least hit on both points for some players 😭
I'm really looking forward to making the next parts myself, and I hope they're enjoyable 🤭🤭🤭 Thank you again for coming to comment, it's so sweet and thoughtful of you 😭 I'll work hard on the updates!!! 💪 💪 💪

Thank you to everyone who voted! I ran this poll across Tumblr/Tiktok/X/Bluesky and I got 92 votes total.
Funnily enough it was basically half-half (with the most extreme platforms being Bluesky, where 79% voted for semi-defined, and Tiktok, where 100% of my comments asked for more customizability).
Since the feedback is pretty much half-half, I'll stick with a more customizable protagonist 🤔 since I'd like to give players more options if there's demand for it.

Monthly Update: July 2025
Tumblr media
Hello everyone, happy July! I hope that it's not too hot where you are (and perhaps you're playing visual novels indoors where it's nice and cool~ 🤭)
Before I get into my dev rambling, I'll mention that I recently started a mailing list! Since there are usually several months between my releases, I thought it would be convenient for players to be notified whenever I release a game or major update without monitoring my socials. You can sign up for it here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you probably know, I released a game last month for Otome Jam! The demo of "My Husband is a Stranger" is now available to play on itch.io! You can find it here!
It's a psychological/drama/romance visual novel about a sweet marriage that slowly rots into a nightmare. It has a customizable protagonist (including skin color) and different font options! The game will take place over the course of 7 days; 3 days and 23k words are available at the moment (around 2 hours of playtime). Please read the content warnings, and take note that the final game will contain horror and thriller elements, in case that's not up your alley!
So… this month I basically did everything that was needed to finish up the MHIAS demo! This included:
-Drew 4 CGs -Drew 19 smaller illustrations -Fixed one of Morgan's sprites and added sprite expressions for both sprites -Made 7 time of day variations of 5 different backgrounds, plus alterations to some commissioned backgrounds (there are 45 backgrounds for the game at the moment! Wow!) -Coded in the entire script, including visuals, audio, and dialogue formats -Put together achievement icons and implemented the achievement system -Implemented BGM and SFX -Coded in the settings and archives -Implemented the gallery -Implemented blinking -Learned how to use Ren'py's particle system -Fixed the Web build so that it works on mobile devices, added a notification to the Web build informing the player of performance issues -Implemented the icon and loading screens for PC, Android, and Web -Finished and styled both the itch.io and Steam pages -Wrote the developer's note -Beta testing -Various bugfixes
Whew, it ended up being a lot! I also made achievement icons and implemented the achievement systems for both Project R and the Karamu trilogy, finalized a few commissioned assets for Project R, and set up the mailing list that I mentioned at the start of the devlog.
Lastly, I was interviewed by the very kind people at Otome.com about MindMindMind! If you're interested, you can check it out here:
youtube
Tumblr media
It goes without saying that I'm… a bit tired! As much as I loved working on the MHIAS demo, it's also easily my most ambitious title yet. It has the most art assets out of any of my games (over twice as many as any of my other titles). It's also the first time I've worked with Ren'py (pretty proud of myself for going from complete novice to workable game in around two months!) and the first time I worked with an artist for a custom GUI (among a dozen other things).
So I took around a week break from development. Now that that's over, I plan to slowly ease back into the swing of things. My main focuses this month will be the MHIAS script (I plan on finishing it completely before I release the next update) as well as the art assets for Project R and the Karamu trilogy. I'd also like to make some headway on the Android port for MMM this month since I don't have any imminent game releases looming over my head.
Thank you to everyone who's following along, and see you next month!

Random Ren'py Tutorial: Changing Your Launcher/Shortcut Icon (on Windows)
Tumblr media
(Idk if this will be helpful to anyone, but since I've been learning Renpy and it took me a little bit to figure this out, I thought I'd share!)
The "window-icon" in your GUI folder is used for the taskbar icon. To change your launcher icon, you'll need an ico file, which is a specialized type that stores an image at multiple resolutions.
The website linked in the Renpy documentation works well for this. Drag and drop your "window-icon" file here:
After that, you'll want to rename the file to "icon.ico" and drop the file into your base directory. This is the folder ABOVE your regular "game" directory. Afterwards, make a new build of the game!
Tumblr media
Note that Windows caches icons! That means that it might not register the icon change right away. So if the icon isn't changing, try renaming the executable (and then renaming it back, of course).
Hope this was useful!

Your life should be perfect. The perfect career. The perfect family. The perfect husband. And bit by bit, that perfect life is cracking all around you.
As your life falls apart, you retreat to your family's estate on a remote island. But after a storm washes away your only means of escape, you find that you're trapped with your devoted, perfect husband... who might not be the man you married.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🌊 Customize your character with your own name, pronouns, skin color, and sexuality.
💍 One male love interest who you're already married to! No work required! (Although things could be going better for you two.)
🐟 3 days and 23k words in the demo (~2 hours playtime)
📖 Different font options to customize your reading experience.
🐙 A bittersweet, emotional story with darkness waiting for you under the surface.
🖥️ Playable on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, and browser.
Please note that this project is in active development. (The final game will contain 7 days, 50k+ words, and 8 endings.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This game deals heavily with sensitive topics, including mental health and grief, with discussions of things like drug abuse and suicide. Please review the content warnings and play with discretion.
The game currently contains 3 out of a total of 7 planned days. I plan to release the game episodically (although maybe I'll release it all in one big batch... still deciding). I don't have any specific release dates since I do like to keep games in the oven until I'm sure they're ready, but I plan to finish the game within a year (as long as someone can restrain me from adding more assets...) I won't spoil anything, but players can expect the final endings to be very bittersweet.
Tumblr media
If you'd like updates, I post my monthly devlogs here on itch.io, so you'll see the updates in your feed if you follow me! I also plan to post more often on Bluesky, with weekly devlogs on my Patreon.
I hope you all enjoy the game if you decide to check it out! And please check out the other Otome Jam entries as well, I'm sure there are a lot of good ones! 😊
Until next time,

Monthly Update: June 2025
Tumblr media
Hello everyone, happy June! I hope that you're all looking forward to your summer plans (and aren't dying in the heat!)
What did I do last month?
This last month I was mainly working on coding. I refined the GUIs for both My Husband is a Stranger and Project R, including things like content warnings, loading screens, styling the history and point screen displays, and so on and so forth. I also coded in the character customization, including a pretty neat skin color selector for both games! (Thank you to Feniks for the very useful colorizing code!)
Tumblr media
Both games are pretty much done in the GUI department, which just leaves the coding of the actual game (visuals, audio, etc etc.)
I also received the Karamu Trilogy GUI from the artist, and I was so excited that I implemented it straight away! I am very grateful to the talented Elduator for working so hard on it. Since the game is technically three games in one, each game's GUI has a slightly different color theme, so it was a quite a bit of extra work, but the end result looks so nice 😭 Here's a sneak peek at the game selection screen 👀 (with a scrapped placeholder draft for Hanasu's title card 😂)
Tumblr media
What are my plans for the second half of the year?
Now that we've hit June (the first half of the year really flew by, dang!), I figured it would be a good time to do a quick summary on what I accomplished during the first half of the year and what my plans are for the second half of 2025.
Although I didn't release anything in the first half of the year, I'll say that I was hard at work… changing my game-making philosophy? 😂 Prior to 2025, I was an almost completely solo developer. I was committed to doing and making everything myself, besides the things that I literally couldn't do (mainly voice acting and beta testing). But that just wasn't sustainable. I was constantly burning myself out trying to do anything and everything, even the things I was extremely not good at, and the amount of work that I was piling on my plate was preventing me from releasing games in any realistic timeframe (what do you mean that making 20 backgrounds and 10 CGs in a single month isn't realistic? 😂)
So during the first half of this year, I've been doing a lot of experimenting. I've started working with outside artists for the first time (primarily on GUI and background art), and I've also been trying to work on setting realistic expectations for myself (for instance, learning to drop minor features rather than wringing myself dry trying to implement them).
So, my games are progressing faster… and looking better than ever! 💪 (While I'm keeping the final versions under wraps for now, here's a peek at the sketches of the backgrounds for the final Karamu game! The final art looks so good that I want to print it out and frame it on my wall, honestly…)
Tumblr media
While I don't have concrete release dates (I'll probably only announce release dates once the games/demos - are pretty much finalized), these are my general timelines/plans:
I'd like to release the demo of My Husband is a Stranger for Otome Jam (so hopefully sometime this month)! I think it should be quite doable (I just need to finish a couple CGs and get everything beta tested.) The demo should be around 2 hours long.
After that, I'll be working on polishing the demo for Project R. Since My Husband is a Stranger and Project R are fairly similar in scope and structure (~60-70k word games taking place over 7 days), I plan to release them concurrently. Somehow releasing one game with a male love interest and one game with a female love interest just tickles my brain in the right way 😂
Regarding the last Karamu part (Hanasu), unfortunately it probably won't be released until October at the earliest as I'm waiting for some assets that won't be completed until then. I'm terribly sorry for the wait, and I'm grateful to everyone for their patience. On the bright side, Hanasu is shaping up to be my proudest game yet, both in terms of polish and writing, and I'm looking forward to showing it off!
On a side note, since I've gotten demand for it, I'm planning on porting MindMindMind to Android at some point in the future. However, it'll take a bit of time since I'll be porting it from the original Godot version to Ren'py (mostly because it'll be easier than trying to update the Godot version, and hopefully I'll be able to upload a Web version too). It's not a difficult task, just a time consuming one, so I'll be tackling it at some point between the release of the My Husband is a Stranger/Project R demoes and the release of the last Karamu game.
And that's all for now! Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read these (sometimes lengthy) devlogs 😂 (It still shocks me every time someone comments or tells me that they read it…) I'm always grateful for the support 🙇‍♀️ Thank you again, and I'll see you next month!

Karamu and MindMindMind are taking part of this alongside a ton of other extremely cool titles, so check it out if you can! 🙌
The first ever otome game-themed Steam festival, Otome Games Celebration, is now live on Steam!
Tumblr media
What are otome games? They're romance-driven games where the player can play as a woman and pursue romantic relationships, with a focus on men as love interests. Our festival showcases the wide world of otome, with some of the games featuring customizable main characters, love interests with a variety of genders, and more.
Over 100+ otome games agreed to take part in the event from 80+ developers, with titles from BUSTAFELLOWS to A Date with Death to Royal Alchemist and more. The event will go for a full week, May 19-26. We have otome on sale, free otome, upcoming otome demos, and more!
One of the pain points of finding visual novels & otome on Steam is the lackluster categorization that doesn't allow for finding the specific story genres you want to find. To try to counter that, I've created lots of widgets separated by story genres, such as a fantasy category, cute & comfy, and more. We even have categories for games with customizable MCs, all male love interests, and more!

Monthly Update: May 2025
Tumblr media
Hello everyone, happy May!
It's a bit of a long one this time, so I'll get right into it.
What did I do this month?
I started off the month absolutely raring to finish refactoring my code to add much needed QOL features, including rollback and controller support, so that it would finally all be ready for my planned releases in the summer. However, after wrestling with the code for around a week, I ran into a frame rate issue that I simply could not fix, even in a completely empty project.
After tearing my hair out for around 6 hours working on it, I made a 4AM decision (which is apparently when I make all of my semi-significant game dev decisions): I would try out a new game engine.
If any of you have played my games since Karamu, you know that I originally worked in Unity. This was for a variety of reasons, but mainly I was a novice dev and I wanted a flexible engine that would allow me to target mobile devices. After the Unity pricing debacle a couple of years ago, I swapped to Godot because it was open-source and would allow me to reuse my C# code that I wrote for Unity. It was also the only open-source engine that supported the 2D animations that I used. However, of course, after the 2D animations weren't supported on Android for the longest time and proved to be controversial (some people did note that they were the only things they didn't like about my games, haha!), I decided to drop them - and there was really no reason for me to stick with Godot, other than sunk-cost fallacy.
Most of you probably enjoy OELVNs, and if so you're probably familiar with Ren'py. It's a game engine designed specifically for making visual novels, which is why it's so popular in the indie VN space, and it comes with most of the features that you would like when playing or making a VN. This included a lot of features that I wanted to implement myself in Godot, including rollback and controller support. Ren'py also runs rather well on a wide variety of platforms, both when making and playing games - which was ultimately the reason that I decided to try it for a few weeks.
Tumblr media
Without getting into the nitty gritty, I spent the latter half of the month working in Ren'py, and I found it to be wonderfully easy, convenient to use, and logically organized. I pretty quickly implemented the GUI for My Husband is a Stranger and Project R, and also implemented the basic script, voice acting, and game selection for the Karamu trilogy.
You can check out some of the screenshots sprinkled in between the wall of text here (it's all looking very spiffy, if I do say so myself! A big thank you to my talented GUI artists, Kathaeris and Elduator!)
Since everything is going rather well, I've decided to shift all of my future projects to Ren'py for the time being. This includes My Husband is a Stranger, Project R, the Karamu trilogy, the MindMindMind Android port (I hope to make a Web build of this one as well since the assets are pretty lean?), and the full version of The Deepwater Witch (+ other various unannounced projects).
Tumblr media
Here is a (not definitive) list of features that I will be removing/changing because of the change in engine:
-The speech bubbles will not dynamically resize to fit the size of the text. This isn't impossible to implement, but it's a little more work than it's worth. Instead, speech bubbles will remain a static size for several lines until I manually change them. I don't think this in particular should bother anyone, but this will lead to a few other changes as well.
-Because the speech bubbles aren't dynamically sized based on the size of the text, I will be removing the ability to choose the font size. I will, of course, make the default font size relatively large and readable (I want everyone to be able to experience my games without getting headaches, after all!) It just doesn't make sense to accommodate smaller text sizes that won't fit well in the speech bubbles.
-I will also be limiting the amount of chooseable fonts. Beforehand I basically added as many fonts as I thought was reasonable (6 with MindMindMind… I basically just kept adding fonts as I made more games…) since more options = better, but because I'll be manually sizing the text bubbles from now on, I'll need to check that the sizes work for each font. To make this doable, I'll probably be limiting the font options to 4: a serif font, a sans-serif font, Open Dyslexic, and Atkinson Hyperlegible. If you have any requests for accessibility fonts, please let me know and I'll try to accommodate those as well!
-I'll be removing the dark and light reading options. It's not impossible to implement in Ren'py, but it's a little more difficult. Instead, I plan to use a more varied amount of speech bubble designs and layouts that are designed to fit the overall presentation of the games better.
Here are features that will be added in my Ren'py games:
-All of Ren'py's built-in QOL features 🙏. If you're a visual novel enjoyer, these will probably be familiar to you, but they include: rollback, quick save/load, optional self-voicing, full controller and keyboard navigation, etc.
-Better performance and platform support (I hope). From what I've heard, Ren'py games are a bit faster and easier to run than either Unity or Godot games, on a wider variety of operating systems. My Godot games also didn't run on MacOS Monterey at all for some reason, which shouldn't be a problem in Ren'py (unless I am somehow cursed by the Apple gods). As I mentioned before, I plan on adding Android builds for my future games, and with Ren'py I will also look into adding Web builds (if I can - a lot of my games will be a little too heavy for it, most likely!)
For anyone who just wants to play my games, the tl;dr of all this nonsense is: I'll be making games faster, they should run better, and I'll be trading some QOL features for much more helpful and better QOL features. For anyone who plays a lot of OELVNs, essentially you should expect my games to run like and have the same features as most of the other games you play 😂
What will I be doing this month?
Since this month is Otome Jam, I really want to release something for it! The last Karamu part needs to cook a little bit longer because I'm waiting on some assets, but I plan on releasing the demo for My Husband is a Stranger, likely sometime next month. For that, I'll be working on the final CGs and coding in the script. If I have time, I'll also work on putting together the CGs for the demo of Project R and tinkering away on the Karamu trilogy and the MMM port.
Thank you to everyone who's following along, and see you next month!

Monthly Update: April 2025
Tumblr media
Hello everyone, happy April!
I hope you all had a good start to the year! It went by a bit too quickly for my liking 😅 but that always happens, I suppose…
What did I do last month?
During the beginning of March, I was traveling a bit, but I still managed to get a bit of work done on the GUI for My Husband is a Stranger! I implemented most of the screens, and I also coded in the functionality for a music player.
For other miscellaneous work, the Project R GUI has been finalized, and it looks absolutely beautiful - I can't wait to implement it! I also put together all the information that the background and GUI artists need for Hanasu, and I've been steadily receiving those assets. I also commissioned and received an updated dev logo, so I'll be updating my socials with that soon (since the original one was so shoddy that I barely used it anywhere…)
I've also been experimenting with looking for costume designers, particularly for Actala, since the costumes for that game have gone through 2 iterations at this point and I'm still not too happy with them… I've been working with a very talented designer during the latter half of the month, and the designs are looking rather spiffy so far, so hopefully that all goes well!
What will I do this month?
This month I'll be working on coding - hopefully I can get all that cleaned up by the end of April. I also hope to finish the My Husband is a Stranger demo assets by then.
Thank you to everyone who's following along, and see you next month!
