like a solid 60% of weird fandom tropes were invented by women who needed slightly more avant garde ways to fuck spock.... wanting to fuck spock is in many ways a load bearing pillar of fandom like if u took it away the source code would just break theres like a molecule of wanting to fuck spock or reaction to everyone wanting to fuck spock within the heart of fanfic all fanfiction is about wanting to fuck spock except fanfic about wanting to fuck spock which is about women in stem

I really wish that more pre-reform/pre-surak fics leaned into cyberpunk instead of going for "shirtless men with spears". Like if I'm being honest, it feels like people sometimes turn vulcans into the "noble savage" trope. Which is, I cannot stress this enough, very weird. You're writing about spacemen and you're somehow managing to be racist against native people. And like. I don't think it's deliberate, and I'm aware that this conception of vulcans has been around for decades and that many people have just kind of picked it up by osmosis, but. Like. It's not great. It is, dare I say, a little bit problematic. It also isn't at all accurate to canon? People just made that up. Because Surak died in the 4th century, just about 2000 years before canon, and do you know what his cause of death was? Radiation poisoning. When they say, "vulcans were extremely violent pre-reform, and nearly wiped themselves out," they don't mean they were having tribal battles on the backs of sehlats or whatever. They mean they were having nuclear warfare.
#you just broke a preconception of mine so thanks for starting this discussion op#full disclosure i've never really liked prereform fic bc they tend to go into levels of dubcon and slavery kink i'm not really into#and that's part of the exoticising in the post#it's so ingrained into the fandom (osmosis as op said) that i really didn't stop to think maybe it didn't have to be like this tho#i just figured not my kink not my horses and moved on#you're right about how it doesn't check out with what we know from canon and the vaguely racist exoticising vibes#although it feels more like the way the non greco-roman parts of the ancient med and then the arab world have been exoticised in media imo#than the noble savage thing as i understand it which is mostly as it was/is applied the indigenous people of my country and not more broadl#so it might apply anyway#also entirely agreed on the robes thing from the tags#to be entirely fair a lot of royalty aus actually portray pre-reform vulcan more like op is suggesting#i don't read many those either for reasons currently irrelevant#but usually vulcan being technologically advanced is necessary for the plot in those#in case it's not clear i'm coming at this from a spirk perspective bc that's the fic i read#spirk#star trek#vulcan#pre-reform vulcan#surak#spock

So like. Not what you'd consider "cold" just in general, but rather specifically for where YOU live (for example: 6c/43f might be considered "cold" if you live in Florida). I see a lot of Tumblr users defending the cold on here, so I'm wondering what temperatures they're actually talking about. For me anyway "cold" automatically translates to be anything below freezing - but I'm not fully convinced that 90% of Tumblr is Actually yearning for below freezing temps.
(My ideal temperature range is around 10c-20c, but a bit below 10c can be nice and refreshing as well. Above 20c depends on what I'm doing - and anything above 25c is too much.)
#it used to get colder where i live#global warming has fucked that up now#winter for the past 3 years has been a couple of days in the 15-20s followed by a week in the 30s and repeat#every year people are like this year winter'll be cold but like. i'll only believe it when i can feel it#sucks bc one of the reasons i moved here is that i hate warm weather and my hometown doesn't go below 21c ever#inner gremlin
