Civil society is a "big tent" and individuals and groups of widely varying political persuasions can be a part of it... Mary Schaffer Conroy, 1998
Activists carrying a green tent though centre of Zhukovsky town on 19 May 2012 before another mass arrest. Quite a small "civil tent" yet. Governor of the Moscow region, affiliate of Putin, spoke for the need for public chamber in Zhukovky. Is it they do not understand that civil society can not be created under will and control of Kremlin's rats? Useless speeches.
On the left - the monument to Nikolai Zhukovsky, creator of aerodynamics.

Those victims who were slaughtered are people that I knew well. These children I knew well, personally. I ate with their families. I had social ties with them. The regime cannot lie about these people, who they were and what they did to them. It was a brutal act by the regime against people who were with the revolution.
Senior Syrian military officer Major Jihad Raslan, who has defected from Assad’s forces after witnessing the Houla massacre. He spoke to the Guardian. The full article is here. (via thepoliticalnotebook)

This is my friend's photo of a street stencil that are widely spread around Zhukovsky. It says "what for do we need the steppe?"
There are more news coming today that the cutting barb wire fence was moved further into my forest, my cherry orchard, and the cuts have continued. Could please someone help us to stop the crazy crooks!? Why do people need to suffer this abuse from this state? Do people of Zhukovsky deserve it?! For what!?
Virgin Mary, Mother of God, put Putin away.

Hey, you little white curly birch, In a field in the valley you stood. We cut you down, We ruined you, So you, too, ruin your husband, Cut his head off, To the right side, From the right to the left....

Demands of Zhukovsky Civil Resistance
1.       Stop any works on the territory of the forest.
2.       All information about the project to be disclosed.
3.       Juridical guarantees to the existing green areas and forests in the town must be provided.
4.       Green  areas of the town must be  included in cadastral register.
5.        Ban on any commercial development around the existent cut in the forest must be introduced.
6.       Urgent re-election of the head of the town administration and its deputy council.
7.       The questions must be answered:
a.       Why the alternative road route was ignored. (The alternative road project  is planned to take transit transport out of town.)
b.      Why the alternative route offered to be built outside of the territory of the forest was ignored?
c.       Why is the existing road is not suitable to connect Flight Research Institute and the new developments of Zhukovsky?
d.      Why the evident transport problems of the town are not being solved while the new project is developed?
e.      Why such enormous junctions are planned in the forest?

Our papers have taken hold of one issue, which gets trotted out as soon as there’s not a lead article ready; that’s the “forest question.” Holy Russia, they say, is cutting down its slumbering forests, leading the population to certain death—there’s a theme, written about with volume and frequency for some time now.
F. Treimut, “Is it Profitable to Follow Correct Forest Practices in Forested Regions?” (1871)
