pairing. aventurine x gn!reader cw/genre. angst, mutual longing but are too dumb to understand it, slighty suggestive, mentions of sex, confused thoughts and feelings, insecurity. mdni synopsis. he starts to feel love for you, you start to feel love for him, but when it comes to admitting it, things don't quite work out. masterlist!
Tumblr media
Aventurine plops down beside you, pulling on the blanket to cover the both of you and catch his breath. It's just another one of those nights where he can relieve himself from the piling work and relax.
His eyes flick to the side, watching the person beside him sleeps peacefully. The fact that you would let your guard down in front of someone like him is amusing to him.
He averts his gaze away, grabbing his phone and checking how many messages he got after leaving work for a few hours.
"Well... seems I have to be off now, doll. Sleep well." Aventurine leans down to kiss you on the temple, before standing up to wear his clothes and gather his belongings.
Aventurine doesn't want to admit this, but he's starting to feel like… this isn't like his average flings anymore, usually he doesn't even care enough to cover them with blankets or kiss them goodnight. Plus… he's starting to fear that this fleeting moments will end.
He sighs gently, looking back to see if you was still sound asleep, which seems like the case with the even breathing and body movements. With that in mind, he slowly exits the room, shutting the door behind him quietly.
He takes a deep breath, feeling that familiar sense of relief wash over him as he exits the apartment. It feels like... a great burden has been lifted off his shoulders.
That's when he realises the mistake he made tonight: he forgot to leave one of his rings behind.
At least there he'd have an excuse to see you and not necessarily how you two always look.
The next day, he tried to think less about how your touch made him feel different.
Aventurine takes out his phone again, this time checking which of his adventures might take a call.
He pulls out his phone again, checking which one of his flings would be able to entertain a call.
But for some reason… he finds himself staring at your name.
"Damn, its been stuck in my head since then. Was it the sex? Probably not…" Aventurine stops his thought process right there.
Then he continued checking his phone, patiently waiting for another woman's response to confirm a date. It was supposed to be something to calm him down, but for some reason it doesn't work anymore.
But he can't do it.
Aventurine stops on your name, staring at your contact information for a good minute or two. Then he puts his phone back in his pocket, deciding not to meet anyone tonight.
Despite his thought process, he still can't help but think about you for the rest of the day.
Or at least that lasted 3 day.
At 7 pm on a Saturday, He finally receives a reply from a certain woman that he's been seeing quite casually these days.
"I'm free to go out if you want, handsome~"
She always ends her messages this way. It's almost comical how she is.
Aventurine chuckles a bit to himself, replying, "Alright, fine. Let me pick you up this afternoon."
With that, he's back to his usual self. The casual dates, the occasional sex, the meaningless conversations and the superficial jokes—everything that seems to make him feel in control again.
He feels… comfortable, for the first few hours, at least. That familiar sense of calmness washes over him again.
The dinner goes well, the woman is quite entertaining. She makes him laugh and he makes her laugh, they joke around and enjoy the meal that he ordered for them.
And after a few more drinks, they end up in a hotel room.
Sharing rough and somewhat needy kisses.
Sharing rough and somewhat needy kisses, touching and exploring each other's bodies, all for a few minutes or maybe an hour even.
Aventurine is enjoying the moment even if it's just a casual thing. He's in control again, that's what matters.
That's when there's a soft vibration from his phone. He glances at it, and sees that you messaged him. He tried to unlock his phone, but the strange feeling was wanting to appear in his stomach again, so he simply threw the phone on the hotel nightstand.
He had sex with the girl, nothing new.
Before encounters with you became almost routine, he normally wouldn't describe his encounters with other women.
This time he was able to describe what it was like; sour.
Nothing compared to you; something sweet.
He stares at the ceiling, feeling even more confused now. He feels his heart skip a beat again, making him feel guilty since he has a woman in his bed right now.
He tries to shake off that feeling, but it persists.
Then his phone rings. The woman in his bed takes notice of this, and even he has to admit that her gaze holds some annoyance.
The urge to pick up the call is rising inside him, but he forces himself not to. Still, he can't stop himself from glancing at the caller's name.
It was you, yet again. He sighs and ignores the call, his mind filled with a jumble of thoughts.
Then the woman in his bed clears her throat, speaking in a teasing voice, "Mind explaining to me whose calling a little late at night, handsome?"
He tries to laugh it off, but he couldn't help the slight unease that the woman's playful tone brought on him.
"Oh, it's just a friend. Nothing to worry about."
His voice is steady, but he could hear his heart beat getting louder with every breath he takes.
The woman gives him a small pout before responding with a teasing voice, "Friend, eh? I'm your friend yet this 'friend' has priority over me?"
He lets out an amused chuckle, and even finds herself playing around again now that he's settled his thoughts. The woman is quite entertaining.
"Oh stop it. Its not that important—"
He glances at the phone screen again, watching as it flashed the caller's name again.
The woman analyzed his facial expression, remaining silent and then smiling, "Then how come you're not answering the call and you can't stop checking your freakin' phone?"
He sighs, his mind unable to come up with any witty answers that he could reply to her with.
"..."
The woman chuckles, still staring at him and the phone with faint amusement and slight suspicion.
"You're very cute." She said as she got out of bed to start dressing and grabbing her things to leave the hotel room.
"Right. Cute." He mumbles to himself.
"See you around, alright, handsome?"
He only nods at her, watching her carefully as she retrieves her things from the hotel room. As she is about to walk out, she stops to look at him one last time, a teasing grin on her face.
After everything he had done, the sex, the dinner, the date—now it all felt...as if nothing had changed.
In his hand was now his phone, he was contemplating your name in the calling app. 3 missed calls and a some messages.
The strange feeling of uncertainty and emptiness began to stir again, making it hard for him to sit still.
He can't stop himself from picking up the phone and checking your messages.
The messages, filled with innocent inquiries about how he was and if he was okay, was something that he has never expected to feel.
One message said; 'i have the ring you left,' That made him laugh a little.
But he can't lie, it filled him with a sense of warmth.
The concerned messages from you made him feel good. However, the last message before the calls was what caught his attention.
This one said; 'hii, can we talk?', And next to the text an emoji of a sad face.
The message was sent 3 hours ago. Before he has sex with the woman who was already gone.
huh? Why?
He feels the familiar feeling of guilt wash over him, like a wave of warmth spreading through him. He looks at the time. It's already close to 3 am.
"Damn." He mutters under his breath.
After a little more silence, with nothing but the sound of his steady breathing in the room, he picks up the phone again.
Aventurine opens the phone's dial tab, and without hesitation, he dials your number.
The phone rings a few times, and for a while he felt the sense of fear and uncertainty, hoping that you'd pick up and that he was not bothering you at such an hour.
Before he hung up, you heard your phone being answered. Aventurine did not hesitate to speak; "Hello, doll. I saw your—"
"What." A male voice, exactly that of a little boy, responded.
Aventurine stayed quiet, his eyes widening in surprise as he hears a childish male voice.
"What-?" He said after a short moment of shock. "...Who is this?"
"No, who are you?" Even though the voice on the other end of the line was that of a small child, he seemed to be annoyed by the intonation in which he spoke to Aventurine.
"Are you Y/N's brother?" Aventurine asked, trying to maintain a calm tone despite the surprise this person gave off.
A pause, the boy sighed. His tone was now more calm. "Are you the person dating my sibling?"
"Um, no... well, yes, but..." Aventurine found himself unable to give a more honest answer with his surprised mind.
"I'm dating them," He said simply, avoiding all other unnecessary information for now.
"Then you're the one that's been hurting them?" The voice on the other end of the line asked, there was no trace of innocence in his tone, only anger now.
This one caught Aventurine off guard, sending a chill down his spine.
"What-? Hurting them? What are you talking about?" He asked, trying to maintain the tone of calmness even if the boy sounded like that.
"I have eyes, you jerk." The voice on the line now sounded angrier. The childish quality of his voice was now gone too.
"You're the reason why they comes home late and sad every nigh."
"You think you can fool me just because I'm a child? You don't treat my sibling right, or properly... You only want them for sex, you don't love them." He continued.
His mind was left in stunned silence.
He was expecting some more innocent inquiries... perhaps even for him to be scolded by a little kid who was just trying to protect his sibling, but not this.
"Um..." Aventurine took a deep breath to calm his thoughts. "Hold on, let me talk to your sibling then, I'll explain everything."
"No, their are sleeping now." he seems to be refusing the offer.
"But-"
"Stop it, just listen to what I have to say." The voice on the other end of the phone said, now sounding like an irritated older brother.
Aventurine kept quiet, allowing the voice to continue his tirade.
"Just..." The child sounded more agitated, almost on the edge of shouting, "Just get out of my sibling's life, will you? They deserves someone better who would treat them right; someone that would properly love them."
"I..." Before he could respond, the call was disconnected.
Someone who would properly love them.
With this line alone, all the other childish taunts seemed to have more weight behind it.
Aventurine had no choice but to turn off the phone and leave it on the nightstand. He was still in the hotel room, however that didn't matter to him now.
No matter how much he tries to shake it off, he can't get his mind to stay put.
...
Even if he wants to brush off the kid's words, this one stung a bit.
He feels like... maybe they were right. He hasn't been treating you right, in a sense that it's not really loving you.
Right?...
The next morning, he looked at his phone again. It was literally the first thing he did when he opened his eyes.
His body felt heavy and tired, something strange for him.
He didn't know whether to write you a message to see you at night or in the afternoon, since your brother's words still continued to echo in his mind.
"To hell with it." He finished by getting out of bed and directly calling you.
Not by sending a message as his head indicated, but by calling you. Something he regretted when he heard the static of the call.
This time he hoped your brother didn't answer the phone. And that you were the one who answered.
"Hello?" Your voice sounds sleepy on the line, but it was enough to make his pulse rise a bit.
He feels his mood immediately uplifted the moment he heard your voice, however it was soon replaced by the lingering thoughts of the night before.
"Is your brother with you?" He asked, his voice carrying a slight tone of hesitation.
"Um..." Your responses were slow, and you sounded unsure about your own words too, and that added to the tension that seems to be simmering between the two of you. "What?"
"How does he know about my brother?", you thought as you rubbed your eye, trying to wake up completely.
"Well, that doesn't matter right now." He tried to clear his throat, hoping that your tone will be more clear when you're fully awake.
Before you could respond, he cut off to continue speaking. "Listen, I just wanted to ask if I can see you today. Please?"
"Um..." You were hesitating to reply, "Could it be at night? I have to work today."
"No problem." He said, a slight smile appeared on his face when you agreed. "Great, see you then, doll."
"Uh, wait a moment." Your voice came inquisitively "Just out of curiosity, could I ask why you want to see me so late?"
He thought about his answer, as he was hesitant to give a more truthful response. And in a way, he wants to talk to you with no one else but him and you.
"Oh, um..." Aventurine thought of an excuse that could hopefully sound convincing, "I just thought it'd be a more intimate time, you know?"
He lets out a small chuckle to alleviate any suspicion you might have.
Your voice seemed to have been eased by his response, and you chuckled as well.
"Really? Intimate, huh?" You can't help but smile, it's still morning but your mood improved at the thought that something intimate might happen between the two of you.
"Well, yeah?"
"Are you going to say something cheesy like, 'just for the two of us?'", you said teasingly.
He can't help but laugh, hearing your teasing remark. "Maybe I would," he teased back, "Maybe I want to say more than that..."
"wait- I thought you liked cheesy." his tone still filled with a playful and teasing quality.
"Hah, I like it... when it comes from you." You also let out a laugh before responding, and your tone seemed more sincere as well.
Without realizing it, they both let out a sigh. The tension that had existed before had dissipated, now it only felt something strange, like a longing feeling between the teasing of both.
"Huh. Well, um..."
The two of you were silent for a few seconds, before he finally spoke again.
"Anyway, I'll see you later at night?"
"Yeah, sure. See you later," You said.
Before the call ended, you couldn't help but let out a giggle, something innocent compared to the flirtations between the two of you.
Although you knew, or assumed, that he only said it as a joke, something he did with the other people he slept with.
...
Fortunately for both of us, the time flew by.
Both you and Aventurine were already in the hotel room where you always met.
It didn't take long for the kissing and caressing to begin. Something he never did with the other people he was with.
It was almost desperately, as if they had needed each other. The pent-up wait on both sides was coming to light.
It was an understatement to say that you and him were having sex. Anyone who saw them would deny that word. Especially because having sex and making love was different.
This was more than just lust.
The way you and Aventurine would look into each other's eyes, this was truly something different.
With all the intensity and passion, all the pent-up need and want that both of you have carried for so long, it made it feel more than just sex to them. It was more than just a simple pleasure.
This was your mutual yearning, finally fulfilled.
Your bodies moved together, in a perfectly rhythmic harmony that was akin to an art of its own.
Everything felt new, every touch, every sound, every move.
Your body seemed to crave for more of it.
And he was giving everything to you.
Aventurine's fingers moved up and down your leg, stroking your thigh. Your legs wrap around his waist, pulling him deeper.
Your breathing became erratic, your eyes glazed, and your moans grew louder. Every second was getting more intense.
Both of you were no longer in control.
Your movements became rapid, your bodies pressed against one another. Your heart was drumming harder, faster.
That was when the climax was nearing. You were so close, your body was trembling.
You could see it on Aventurine's face, he was also close to his climax.
Your hips thrust against his, his fingers dug into your hip, your bodies trembled and heaved against each other.
The entire time, your eyes were locked together, and both of you felt like this moment would last forever.
However, good things have to end at some point.
Amidst all the obscene noise, Aventurine spoke; “Ah— I like you, Y/N.”
Your eyes widened, your breathing was still shaky, but you heard the words loud and clear.
Your face froze for a bit, as you weren't expecting him to say those words.
Your body ignored the fact that you were about to come, leaving you feeling nothing at that moment. As if you had been woken up from the hot feeling.
The way those words echoed in your head made you suddenly feel more conscious of what has happened before.
Your heart skipped a beat, then again, your mind was left dizzy for a moment.
He, after giving that statement, came inside you. Even that was something different for you, since there were usually no words other than "love" involved or him ending up inside.
On the other hand, you didn't finish.
As soon as he finished, he let out a small sigh as his body slowly softened. His body laid upon you, his head resting on your breast, and with one of his hands gently stroking your hair, tangling one of his fingers in it.
You felt a bit stunned for a few moments, still reeling from that statement— "I like you."
Your heart continued to race, your mind was still trying to comprehend the situation, or his words in particular.
Aventurine pulled away from you, his eyes glancing to the sides, a slight blush apparent on his cheeks, even at this moment.
It was a bit unlike him for him to look embarrassed; usually, he was cool-headed and collected.
The way he glanced at you and away made your heart skip another beat, your eyes then looking downwards, feeling as if you've done something wrong... or as if he did something wrong.
All of that for you was overwhelming.
"You're kidding, right?" You said, your throat feeling dry.
"I- no..."
His voice was shaken up, a bit shaken than usual, as if he didn't expect himself to say those words— or for you to react to it.
There seemed to be a lot on his mind as he spoke again. Aventurine was hurt by your words somehow.
"Do you need me to say it again?" He said, attempting a joke, but his tense expression and stuttering voice betrayed his tone.
Your head jerked up, eyes widened, and throat tightened as he said those words as a joke.
"What on earth was he implying? Was it really... the truth?", you thought.
Your mind filled with more questions, your head spinning with everything that just happened.
"No—" You blurted out, as you tried to stand up from the bed.
This was not what you expected, it was only supposed to be a sex session and nothing more. Like always. You didn't find it fun or nice that he played with you like that.
You thought that, that he was getting your hopes up since you believed that what he said was something normal that he said to the other people he spent the night with.
He saw the way you moved, the way you got off the bed, the way you tried standing up to put back on your clothes... everything.
Everything he saw, he knew exactly what your thoughts were right now. He felt a sting in his heart, your sudden reaction to his joke was nothing compared to what was going inside his head now.
"Wait—"
He tried to reach out to you, to grab your hand... but you avoided it.
He could see the confusion on your face as you began to wear your clothes back. Everything he saw now, it felt like a slap to the face.
As you put on your pants and underwear, you felt something sticky slide from your crotch. That made you realize again that he had cum inside you.
Your eyes stung slightly, putting on your clothes somewhat roughly.
"... please." He said again, his voice now more shaken than before.
He tried approaching you once more, trying to get you to stop what you were doing, but it was no use.
"I was being serious about what I said," he said again, "I... genuinely like you."
It was obvious that the tension was still high, and your expression showed no sign of softening anytime soon though.
"Please...don't say that again." Your voice cracked as you spoke.
You were afraid to believe his words, you were afraid to get more attached to him.
Your words pierced into his heart, his chest filling up with a heavy feeling. He was hurt by the way your voice broke while saying those words.
He didn't expect it to affect him so much, and he really was serious about what he said, but why did you have to respond the way you did now?
"I think it's better that we stop doing this." You said quickly, taking your belongings and leaving the room without seeing him again.
He remained on the bed, sitting in silence as you left. His heart felt heavy, and his mind seemed to be blank.
He thought that you would stay with him, that you'd...
Aventurine wanted to call out to you, or at least stop you from leaving, but he knew he wouldn't have the chance to do that because you already left the room.
There were so many doubts swirling in his head, so many things he wanted to say to you.
"Maybe it's better that we stop seeing each other..." He thought, while looking at the sheets on the bed. "...So his brother won't be worried anymore."

Valentine's day
Tumblr media
pairing. Dr. Ratio x gn!reader cw/genre. angst, ratio is somewhat selfish tbh, (real situation TT), disinterest, early disappointment. ruined thoughts. summary. he doesn't care about holidays. masterlist!
Tumblr media
"Not now, I'm busy," Veritas mutters, rejecting your request for quality time once again, his eyes not leaving the pages sprawled before him. He's always been a man of science. To him, every moment is a precious resource to be spent pursuing knowledge.
"I can't afford distractions," he says curtly, without looking up. It's clear where his priorities lie, and it certainly wasn't you.
"Uh, I know."
You had been thinking about this date since the beginning of the month, you were waiting to see if he would say something to you, but since there was only half a day left until it would be that special day, you decided to ask, knowing that he would tell you the same phrase as always. everyone who was in his world; 'I'm busy'
"I just wanted to ask you something." You said while you had your phone in your hand, looking at the calendar app again.
"Oh?" Ratio looks up with a slight frown, eyes briefly searching yours for answers.
"What is it?"
The tension is palpable. He sits up straighter in his chair, sensing your hesistance, but also eager for any conversation that would divert his attention from his latest research project.
Your question is simple enough, but the unspoken feelings beneath it threaten to destabilize his carefully crafted persona. Despite being an intelligent man, he feels utterly lost when it comes to reading your emotions.
"Uhm…are we doing something for Valentine's Day?" You asked, a slight hesitation in your words.
A pause.
"…Are we?" Ratio's expression remains impassive, his eyes gazing past you, his mind focused on the question at hand.
"Yeah, like going for a walk, going out to eat, I don't know.." You responded, his reaction disappointed you, you knew what he was going to tell you next.
Ratio's brow furrowed, and a brief moment of hesitation passed before he spoke. "You know I don't celebrate such insignificant days," he barked, a tinge of annoyance creeping into his voice. "I have more important things to do with my time than waste it on frivolous festivities dedicated to superficiality."
"And, honestly, who came up with that date anyway? It's so arbitrary."
You can't help but feel disappointed, once again. Ratio's dismissal had hurt you in an instant. He had always dismissed such occasions in the past, but you had hoped that this one would be different. He'd never celebrated Valentine's Day, but this year, he would make an exception for you.
The thought had comforted you in your loneliest moments. So many times when you wondered if he even loved you at all, you found solace in the belief that he would make an exception for you. But this time, he didn't.
"Look," Ratio sighs, seeming slightly exasperated, "I care about you, I do, but what does celebrating one day of love prove?" His frown deepers.
"Besides, wouldn't it be better to spend the entire year doing all the romantic things and just ignore that one day? It's not like Valentine's Day means anything anyway." He shrugged, not giving your opinion much weight.
This was supposed to be your special day, a time for celebrating your love, yet it seemed he was intent on letting it slip by once again. How could he be so nonchalant? As you glance down at the calendar app, you can't help but feel hurt and neglected.
"But it's important to me, Veritas."
You were very excited about this type of festivities. But with his response everything went to waste, you thought he would be something more understanding this year.
"I told you, it's just a silly waste. Why does one day have to be more special than any other?"
He shrugs dismissively again as he returns to his studies, returning to his world of data and information, shutting out everything else around him.
"You know how I feel about these things. Why can't you just respect that?" Ratio's tone was now sharp, as if he had become irritated with your repeated attempts to draw him out.
As Ratio's words sink in, you're left with a bitter taste in your mouth. It was as if you were talking to a stone wall. There was no emotion behind his words, just cold logic. It was a side of him you were used to, yet it still hurt that he couldn't make just this one exception. It wasn't even about the holiday itself, it was about you.
Your eyes narrow in response to his growing annoyance.
"Yes, I do," you replied curtly "I understand perfectly well that these kinds of things are not important to you." Slight pause. "But I thought you might make an exception for me…" A hint of accusation glinted in your eyes. But Veritas remained unmoved.
As he continued to glare back at you, that familiar sense of loneliness returned.
"If you just wanted me to take you out on a date, you should have said that. Or better yet, if you want to do something romantic, you don't need a special day to do it."
He didn't seem to understand. It was more than just about taking you on a date. It was about the emotional implication, the symbolic gesture. It was about making your time together mean something.
You're still unable to hide your disappointment. And worse, this was not the first time he'd dismissed events just because they didn't have a point. He's missed out on many things because of this attitude, things that could have brought you closer together. It hurts that he doesn't realize how important they are for you.
"Can't you just humor me this one time? Don't you care when it's important to me?" You looked back at your phone, the box that marked the date '14' was adorned with hearts, then you turned off your phone, looking at it again.
"Yes, I care about you." Ratio spoke softly, the first words of kindness he had uttered thus far.
His eyes flit away momentarily as he thinks for a moment.
"Look… let's do this. Just for your sake. How about I take you out on a date this weekend? No special occasion, just a fun evening to enjoy each other's company. And I promise we can do something romantic."
The little hope you had was completely thrown away. You let out an inaudible sigh, feeling your mood drop immediately.
"…it's okay, I guess." You nodded in agreement, feeling a bitter taste in your mouth. What could have ended up being a nice valentine's day for tomorrow, ended in disappointment and a pending date for the weekend. A date as if it were a consolation prize.
"Now if you'll excuse me." He said somewhat irritated, he thought he had wasted a lot of time talking about "nonsense". So now he would continue with what he was doing before you came to ask him something.
You went numb in your spot, feeling a lump in your throat, moving away from where he was sitting.

I was enchanted to meet you
Tumblr media
pairing. scaramouche x gn!reader cw/genre. angst, falling out of love, break up, lovers to strangers/exes, mention of lies, false words. masterlist!
Tumblr media
You and Scara have been dating for 1 year, he also always shows you affection, But all he does is lie.
Scara had a concert with his friends, so you go to watch it. When you saw the concert, Scara playing the guitar while seeing the singer with love eyes, the song: Enchanted
"I was Enchanted to meet you." The singer was singing and she also looked at him
"Please don't be in love with someone else, please don't have somebody waiting on you."
The night was cold, you cursed yourself for continuing with your fantasy of colors and sparkles in the shape of hearts. It was obvious, you just preferred not to know anything and ignore.
But if you already knew everything, so why did it hurt so much?
You felt like an idiot, falling for his pretty, decorated lies over and over again. It was too much for you.
You tried a lot to hold back the tears, you tried to push the people who were there, in an attempt to get out.
But oh, the music and Scara's voice with the girl, resonated from your ears to your brain. Unconsciously your tears could not hold in your eyes, sliding down your cheeks. Pouring your heart out little by little, you didn't care how many looks the people watching the concert gave you.
It was unfair.
His false promises of "I will be your last love.", when you returned home embarrassed and happy by his confession, now fell into bitter empty words. The worst of all is that you knew it, but you believed, you had a little hope that your stories would come true.
The moment you were finally able to get out of there, you allowed yourself to sob.
It was ridiculous and humiliating, because of all the times he could do that was now, in front of a lot of people?
You returned home, you cursed internally again when you took into account that Scara also lived with you. Your mind had already processed this moment months ago while your heart was just trying to understand it.
You let out a shaky breath, “good things don’t last forever,” you thought.
You left your bag on the couch while you entered the master bedroom, taking out the suitcase where you had stored your things when you moved in with him.
As you were putting your clothes in, without touching the things he had bought you, your phone rang.
The movement of your hands stopped for a brief moment, Your eyes filled with tears again, the song from the concert, your song, forced you to have a hurricane of memories.
The first thing your brain thought to torture you was his confession; "He's your first love..." At that time, you had another love interest but that didn't stop him. "...I'm trying to be the last one."
"No matter what time passes."
Oh, how it hurt you.
Apparently that 'time' was only 6 months.
You sighed and left the suitcase open, heading to the couch and taking out your phone.
“Hello.” you said through tears and a cracking voice.
“Where are you? I didn't see you when the concert ended.” He said with a calm voice as if he had not been the one on stage flirting minutes ago.
“I’m at home.” you whispered.
He went silent, you could hear how he breathed through the phone.
You went quiet as well, as the silence passed, neither of you was the first to speak.
You heard that his breath was quick, something made him uneasy.
“Did something happen?” He asked in a more serious tone than before.
At your lack of response, Scara spoke again.
“…I’m coming over." He said and hung up.
You left your cell phone on the couch while you went back to put away your belongings in the suitcase.
You still wanted to cry but no tears came out of your eyes. Now you were sitting on the couch, with the suitcase on one side, waiting for him.
10 minutes had passed and finally you began to hear his footsteps approaching.
Your heart felt heavy.
He came in, seeing the suitcase on the couch, he looked at you.
"... what are you doing?" His eyes scanned you with concern, they looked into yours with the same concern.
You raised your head, looking at him, your eyes were red and swollen. You let out a sigh and spoke calmly; "I am leaving."
"Y/N—" He tried to start but you spoke first.
"I'm not interested in hearing any explanations or excuses," You said firmly.
He wanted to say something but you put your hand up in the air stopping his words.
"No matter what you say I don't believe you anymore," Your words pierced his heart like it was nothing, even your eyes were dry.
He felt as if he had been punched in the stomach, he finally lowered his gaze to the floor.
"..."
"Why did you go through the trouble of lying to me about loving me when it was so easy for you to fall in love with someone else in front of me on stage?", you thought, but you didn't say.
You got up from the couch, standing in front of him.
"Please, I can explain—"
You silenced him again.
"I know you're interested in someone else, Scara." You said, your voice sounding soft and calm.
You took his hands in yours, wanting to feel the warm touch you longed for from him. "Take good care of yourself from now on." You said, tightening your grip on his hands knowing that the moment you let go, you would never feel that warmth inside you again.
He couldn't speak, he also tightened his grip on your hands, remaining silent.
You surprised yourself by the fact that you were so calm now, without needing to drown in tears. You wanted to think that it was because of your mind, which had already been prepared for this moment, you didn't even mind leaving in the middle of the night, you had called a taxi before anyway.
For a few more seconds you continued like this until you released his hands. You inhaled and exhaled, going back to grab your suitcase. "I'll spend forever wondering if you knew, I was enchanted to meet you." You said with a little smile on your face, looking at him one last time and then walking past him, opening the door to your now ex-house, leaving there.

Clumsiness
Tumblr media
pairing. Dr. Ratio x gn!reader cw/genre. slight angst, fluff, comfort, microwave explosion, use of the word "Idiot". masterlist! requests open!
Tumblr media
It was known that his partner was not the brightest star in the sky. One might ask: but how had he come to love this person? After all, Ratio had always claimed aloud that he despised idiots. Well, in short, he didn't see you as a simple, ignorant fool, just adorably unintelligent.
Your partner had a great mind, incredibly knowledgeable, with a memory capable of storing unquantifiable information, or a creativity that no normal human could ever hope to comprehend. But you were still an idiot. Unable to solve simple tasks, too gullible to be left alone and too clumsy for basic security.
And right now it was a perfect example. Ratio stood there, in the doorway of his kitchen that no longer looked like one, for the simple reason that the microwave was in a thousand pieces, black trails rising from the walls to the ceiling, fragments of wood scattered everywhere.
"You're an idiot." Was the first thing that came out of his half-open mouth after contemplating this catastrophe for already two minutes. "Everyone knows that metal in the microwave is a warned and extremely dangerous hazard." Ratio sighed from the depths of his longing, not only because he was exasperated with these wild experiences his partner always brought into his daily life, but also because he was inevitably very worried.
"Oh, I'm so sorry." You spoke in a hurried manner. You felt ashamed of what you always did, this was nothing new, one way or another you always had to get something wrong. Or, as in this case, you forgot that you shouldn't put something metal in the microwave.
""Oh, I'm so sorry" Really? You know what would have been nice? Not to destroy my microwave. He said with a heavy dose of sarcasm and condescension in his voice. "I guess I should at least be grateful that you didn't accidentally kill yourself with this. But still…" he groaned in exasperation, now looking irritably at the broken microwave.
"Besides, what would have happened if you were alone, eh?" He spoke again, running a hand over the bridge of his nose. He was scolding you.
You couldn't find an excuse, he was absolutely right. You had been careless… Again. You bit your lip and remained silent at his annoyance, while he stared at the broken microwave. After a minute, you finally responded:
"It was an accident, I was just trying to heat up my lunch". That was all you were willing to say in your defence. Even if you had tried, you couldn't find a single argument in your favour, so you simply waited in silence as you listened to the man's reprimands.
"It's always the same story! You always do something that puts you in danger, you know you're doing something stupid when you do it, you say you're sorry and you keep doing the same stupid things over and over again" Ratio's tone became harsh and accusatory, his expression changing from frustrated to irritated.
"But at this point, is there really any hope left in that head of yours? Should I just prepare for the day when you set off an explosion that kills us both?"
You shuddered and felt a shiver run down your spine. Was this what you had always been? A fool? A danger to life and your environment? An idiot? You felt all those words echoing in your mind, filling your heart with trepidation. You let out a small sigh, closed your eyes and leaned against the wall. You felt like crying, but you refused to cry in front of him, so you answered quietly, trying not to let him hear your trembling voice.
"I'm sorry…"
The sudden sight of you trying to hold back tears was something he hadn't expected at all, after all, he thought you was used to his harsh words. He felt a pang in his heart, as his mind filled with conflicting emotions.
"Damn it…" He uttered, before letting out a frustrated sigh. But then he looked down and his expression softened.
"Y/N…" he said, his tone suddenly kinder and gentler, just a little.
He walked over to you and wrapped his arms around you, hugging you in a comforting way. His breath caressed the top of your head as he buried his face in your hair.
"I know I can be… harsh with my words sometimes." He spoke softly. "But you must understand that it's tiring for me too." He said, his tone now serious and more vulnerable.
"Please be careful, that's all I want from you."
His words had a powerful effect on you and you could not find a way to respond to it. You simply closed your eyes, silently thanking him for not scolding you anymore, besides his words were comforting in one way or another. But in that moment of peace, a new question popped into your mind. A question you always asked yourself but never dared to ask.
"Why are you with me… Why are you with an idiot who always ruins things?"
A second passed, then another, while Ratio simply remained silent as if contemplating and evaluating what his answer might be. Finally he spoke:
"I love you, with your faults, with all your faults. You're a complete fool, and that's precisely what makes you, and only you, special." Veritas gently pulls away from the embrace, taking your face in both hands and stroking it with his thumbs.
"Hmm… yeah, also, I wouldn't consider the term 'Idiot' good for you, for me it's more 'Clumsy' and 'Adorable'." He finished saying smiling slightly.
His sweet words and gentle caress on your face made you blush, feeling the skin on your cheeks redden. It took you a few seconds to recover and then, with an excited tone, you replied.
"Wait, wait, are you saying that… that you actually like my awkwardness? That you even think it's cute?" you chuckled. "Then why are you always mad at me?"
His expression softened even more as he continued to caress your cheeks, his warm breath blowing lightly against the skin of your face.
"Because I do care about you, and, you know what, it's not really anger, it's more like…. Anxiety…" He confessed, lowering his hands as his gaze returned to your eyes. "I love you, but I'm also very worried about you, see? I'm always afraid you'll get hurt," he added, speaking softly and sincerely.
You remained silent, letting the words penetrate you. You finally understood. His "anger" was more a symptom of his love, more of worry than exasperation.
"Ohhh, I see…I promise I'll try to be more careful." You said, with a bit of firmness in your voice, keeping your words more of a promise to yourself.
His eyebrows arched a little when he heard your promise, as he was impressed by your determination. It was good to know that you were willing to make an effort for yourself and your relationship. Ratio stroked the side of your face again, his thumb gently brushing your lips. He had this expression of tenderness and joy in his eyes, which then brightened as he added in a soft tone:
"But you know, I'm not going to complain too much if you keep messing up. I like being your saviour, you know…"
Laughing a little and with some mockery in your tone, you said; "So, my savior, help me pick up the pieces of your destroyed microwave."
He laughed quietly at your banter. You sure were witty, he had to admit. Then he nodded his head and his gaze softened even more with affection. You were an absolutely adorable idiot.
"Of course, my clumsy princess," he gave you a playful smile, before walking over to the pieces of the microwave. He picked up several broken pieces and looked at you expectantly as he put them in the rubbish bag.
"And let's hope you don't explode your fingers while we're at it…"

The missing one
Childe ver. Zhongli ver.
Tumblr media
pairing. Childe x fem!reader cw/genre. slighty angst, hurt no comfort, breakup, lovers to exes. masterlist! request open!
Tumblr media
You and Childe have been in a relationship for 3 months, he is kind and loving to you, but… he can't forget his ex Lumine, and when Childe saw you he always remembered her.
One day you were both sitting together on Childe's bed talking and cuddling, until Childe got a bit nervous.
"You know… Y/N, you always remind me of Lumine…" He said in a low voice, almost like a whisper.
You could hear that, because of the closeness of their bodies as they embraced.
"…" Your breath hitched, just for milliseconds. You pulled away from the embrace quickly, looking up at him.
"What did you say?…" You asked, wanting to believe you hadn't heard that.
Childe realised his mistake, his eyes widened in shock at your reaction and he saw your face.
"Nothing…" He replied nervously, not wanting to create a bad mood by saying that.
"Childe." You said his name. "I heard you." Your brow furrowed, you felt hurt to hear him say that.
The boy's heart started pounding, he couldn't help but look at you… in his eyes, you looked so serious.
"Y/N, please don't take it wrong, I said it by mistake." He said with a slight stutter.
"Hm, I don't think that's why you said it, Childe." You said quietly. With a sigh, you ran your hands through his hair, wanting to feel his soft locks of hair through your fingers again.
Then you cut the touch and got out of bed. "Do you remember when we slept together? Well, while you were sleeping you were saying 'I miss you, Lumine'." You said, feeling a bitterness in your mouth at the memory.
You began to tie your slippers, taking your eyes off him for a moment.
Childe felt her stomach turn, it was true that once in her sleep he had said her name. He didn't expect you to have heard that either.
"Y/N…. I swear it was an accident. I can't control my actions in my sleep…" He said quietly, avoiding eye contact.
"Yes, I know." You said, once you finished lacing up your slippers. You stared at him without saying anything until you let out a quiet sigh again.
"We'd better leave it here, Childe. I can't keep doing this to myself." You hurriedly picked up your backpack that you had left on his desk chair, slinging it over your shoulder. "I tried to ignore the obvious, but I guess it wasn't enough." By saying that you meant how much was obvious about Childe's feelings for Lumine, which were still simmering.
That hit him like a bucket of cold water, Childe's face was slightly pale as he realised what was going on, he didn't want things to be like this.
"Y/N, wait-…don't go, come on, we can talk about it…" He said in a desperate tone, grabbing her hand.
"I'm sorry, Childe, but no." You said releasing yourself from his gentle grip, looking at him before walking out the door to his room and soon leaving his house.
You were ashamed to see his brother and mother there, sitting in the living room of his house. With a smile that looked more like a grimace, you said goodbye, walked quickly and left your now ex-boyfriend's house.

Hi! I love how you write angst and it is perfect whenever I crave for some.
As I am into an angst spree, and i saw your requests open, could I request some bittersweet angst? I don't really have any ideas lol but maybe with Zhongli? Or Diluc? Al Haitham is fine too, haha.

pairing. zhongli x gn!reader cw/genre. some bittersweet to pure angst, no comfort, begging, toxic relationship, do not imitate. masterlist! requests open! note. Hi Anon, here is what you requested, as you didn't specify pronouns I opted to make them neutral (easier for me to make them with "You") I hope that's ok and that you enjoy it. By the time I finish writing this I feel I've made it more angsty, I hope it's still ok, sorry.
Tumblr media
Things were obvious to both of you, or at least to you. It was nothing new to know that he was with you only because of the physical resemblance to his previous deceased partner. The worst part of it was that even knowing the situation, you loved him too much to leave him.
You were sitting next to him, while he was combing his hair. Suddenly he called you by the name of his previous partner, not for the first time.
"My name is Y/N…you know that, don't you?" you said to Zhongli, by the correction he apparently got annoyed, to the point of ignoring you but not just for that day, he ignored you for a whole week.
He started to become distant, almost as he always did when you repeated or contradicted his words. You tried to think at first that he was just busy.
Now you found yourself walking leisurely through Liyue; it was a quiet afternoon. The breeze was blowing, the birds were singing, it was nice. Zhongli saw you, but avoided you. You had no idea that he had passed by because you were busy in your own little world.
You missed the caresses he gave you a week ago, before you corrected him. His warm kisses on your forehead and the pats on his head. It was strange that he ignored you for so long, normally it was over in hours, like two months ago.
"I'm sorry." He said, hugging your waist from behind, burying his head in the crook of your neck.
You had just fought about something he mentioned, you got a little upset, but didn't comment. Seeing you uncomfortable, he got annoyed too, and everyone went to a different part of the house.
And here he was now, pressing soft kisses on your jaw and the back of your neck, his hands caressing your waist.
"Ah, it's okay, Zhongli." You spoke, turning to see him and giving him a small kiss. He, of course, smiled at the action.
Oh, how you wanted it to be like that this time.
Later, you returned home, Zhongli was already there.
"Zhongli, please don't ignore me." You approached with hesitant steps to the couch where he was sitting while reading a book.
Zhongli raised his head to look at you. You couldn't tell what he was feeling from his serious face. "Come here, sit with me." He spoke, putting his book aside.
That was a breakthrough, at least he responded to you. You moved closer and he grabbed your hand as he made you sit next to him. With another hand he began to stroke your hair gently. "It's okay now, I'm not upset anymore." Zhongli said, finally mentioning his former partner's name again as he continued the caresses.
You felt a lump in your throat, your body tensed as you heard him call you by that name, again.
"Zhongli…" You started to speak, your mouth feeling dry. "…that's not my name." Inside you were afraid that he would be annoyed again and ignore you, but you couldn't, you needed to tell him that that wasn't your name.
"…" Zhongli's hand in your hair tightened, instantly stopping the movement. You exhaled tiredly, you were starting to get fed up with the situation.
"I'm afraid to say this isn't working." He said, pulling his hand away from your hair, his tone was distant and with his gaze fixed on the wall.
"Huh?" you blurted out in surprise. "What do you mean?" feeling your body tense.
"That this isn't working." He said again. His gaze was now fixed on you and his tone was firm and distant.
"I can't even say I'm completely happy here with you because it's not true. I still love the person who looks like you but is no longer here."
"I-" Zhongli's words echoed in your head. "No, you don't really mean it…do you?" your voice cracked as you spoke. You were getting desperate, you couldn't let yourself break up with him, you loved him too much.
"I'm sorry, it was a mistake to have thought this could work. I see clearly now how different you are from her." He exhaled, getting up from the couch.
"…" You felt your life flash before your eyes. Reacting just as he got up from the couch, "No, please-" Hesitantly, you moved towards him quickly. "Please, let's not break up, please."
Tears soon began to fall from your eyes, the lump in your throat beginning to form into small, suppressed sobs.
Zhongli just stood there, saying nothing. He looked at you with a cold and firm countenance.
You, in an act of desperation at his firm resolve, knelt before him, grabbing his legs in an attempt to keep him from leaving. "Please, Zhongli, don't leave me-" you spoke, sobbing.
"I'll let you call me by her name, please don't leave."
Zhongli seeing you like this, felt some remorse, seeing your great despair reflected on your face, he merely sighed.
"I'm sorry, but no." He said, moving forward and releasing the grip you had on his legs.
"Please, Zhongli, don't-"
Everything was happening so fast now. Watching him advance to the door you got up from the ground and followed him. "Don't go, please, I beg you…" Your words were cut off by crying. You repeated the same words, trying not to let him cross the door.
Zhongli stood in the doorway, analysing everything he was doing. He did not turn around, nor did he make a move. He just said; "I'm sorry…goodbye."
He walked out of the house, never to return.
You tried to run, but ended up tripping over your foot and fell to the ground on your knees. "Please don't leave me-"
"Don't leave me, Zhongli…" You sobbed, lying there on the ground, slowly crumbling to pieces. You didn't care if people heard or saw what was happening.
You felt your head explode, this couldn't be true, maybe you shouldn't have complained about what he called you by a name that wasn't yours and never will be yours. You felt guilty for his departure.
"Why are you leaving me, come back" echoed in your mind, watching his figure wander through the streets of Liyue.
"What should I do without you, Zhongli?" you murmured, letting the tears continue to wet your face, making no attempt to wipe them away.

New year's eve
Tumblr media
pairing. wriothesley x gn!reader cw/genre. implicit death, slighty angst, slighty fluff, no comfort. masterlist!requests open!note. sorry not sorry, celebrating the new year with a bit of angst, yipe!

The sound of the song "Everybody loves somebody" echoed in Wriothesley's mind, as did the sound of police sirens.
In the background a few more fireworks mingled with the sound of bullets.
To his surprise, he had one in the stomach, through one of his ribs perhaps.
Meanwhile, the table is richly laden with plates of food; the Christmas tree garland is still included. New Year's movies are playing on the television ready to watch.
But unfortunately you are already asleep on the sofa. There is open champagne and an empty glass next to you. By now it was already 3:00 a.m. on the first of January. The same melody of the song was playing on the shared playlist they had on their mobile phone, the same song they danced to on their wedding day.
Everybody loves somebody sometime…
The keys to the entrance rang and that made you wake up quickly from the sofa, despite the time you were happy to see him.
With a hurried step you leapt into his arms, blowing kisses all over Wriothesley's face, who gladly received the embrace.
"Happy New Year, my precious love." He said, taking your face in his hands.
"Happy New Year, my darling."
And although my dream was overdue…
Despite his delay, you went to his balcony, the pretty fireworks still adorned the skies. You rested your head on his shoulder, he hugged you around the waist pulling your body to him.
"I love you, my love, always remember that."
"And that, Wrio?" You said with feelings running high and a smile on your face.
"I just wanted to remind you as the first thing this year."
"In that case…I love you all the more, my love."
Your love made it well worth waiting…
As if a kiss was placed on your forehead, you opened your eyes, looking around your shared home. Everything was just as you left it last night, the clock now reading 7:00 a.m. It seemed that Wriothesley didn't come home today.
A figure in the snow captured the shock and horror in the streets of those who lived nearby, a pool of blood painting the white, frozen snow. The same figure had a hand on his abdomen, clutching a picture of you, which he kept in his pocket, in his free hand, clutching it.
"What a strange dream…" You thought, looking at the picture of the two of you on the wall.

Hug
Tumblr media
pairing. zhongli x fem!reader cw/genre. fluff, slight angst, reverse comfort, stress. masterlist! requests open!
Tumblr media
As Y/N walked through the halls of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, Zhongli's quiet sobs echoed in the muffled corridors. She stopped when she reached his office.
"Uh- Is that Zhongli?…", Y/N wondered in his head.
With slow, silent steps she approached the trembling figure of the man, who stood with his back to her.
As she approached him, he slowly turned around. Light tears flowed from his eyes. His lips tightened, hiding any form of sadness or weakness.
Y/N's previously curious look had turned to concern upon seeing Zhongli like this.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to intrude." He apologised beforehand.
"…Uh, are you alright?" she asked, somewhat shyly.
He nods slowly and sighs. She is a little surprised to see a normally stoic and calm person so vulnerable to even the simplest question. He sniffles and his lips quiver slightly "I'm fine.."
"Excellent, what a good question, Y/N." she spoke to herself in her head, wanting to slap herself on the forehead for asking such a silly question.
"Uhm, may I come in?" Y/N asked, as she didn't know if Zhongli would be uncomfortable with her presence.
He'd be silent for a moment. He'd finally open his mouth and speak slowly; "Sure."
Y/N nodded her head. She took a few more steps, staying close to him but not invading his personal space.
"You honestly don't seem well, did something happen?" her voice came out soft and calm.
His body tensed again when she spoke to him. His eyes wandered sideways, but never to her. His breathing was a little faster than usual. He hesitated between looking down at his hands as he spoke a little "…Today has been a very stressful day…. That's all."
On the other hand, Y/N never failed to keep her eyes on him.
"Hmm, I see…" she replied. Y/N sensed that there was a slightly stronger reason within that little explanation, but she didn't probe further so as not to make him uncomfortable or push him.
Her curious hands approached his face, it was a slow approach so that he wouldn't startle and if in any case he didn't want the touch, he might pull away.
Zhongli did not pull away from her hands as she slowly approached his face. Her gentle touch seemed to calm his nerves a little and his tense body relaxed a little. He took a deep breath and finally looked up at her, revealing his amber eyes.
Her hands fit perfectly on his face. She gently wiped away the tears with her thumbs. "I don't know what is truly tormenting you, Zhongli…" her voice was warm, her face close to his, "…but believe me I will be here for as long as you need."
Once she finished saying that, she placed her forehead against his, still not releasing her hands from his face.
The slightest bit of moisture formed in his eyes as his breath caught once she had placed herself so close to him, his heart was hammering at this exact second as her touch was comforting. All his stress seemed to escape him the moment she were near. He'd slowly place his hands on hers as he sniffed.
It wasn't many seconds before Y/N felt his thumbs being moistened again, more tears falling from Zhongli's eyes.
It was almost as if her words, in addition to soothing him, had opened up that mass of emotions inside him.
Y/N pulled away from his forehead, wiped his cheeks again and released his hands from his face.
His tears had started to stream down his cheeks as the floodgates had opened from the dam. He was now a mess in front of her as his breathing was shaky. He finally wiped some of his tears away with his sleeves "..I'm sorry…"
Y/N sighed, she thought that by telling him that she had made him cry more, but on the other hand she thought it was better that he let it all out.
"Can I…?" Y/N asked, as she opened her arms so she could hug him.
At first he hesitated but seconds later he melted his body into hers. Choked sobs escaped his lips, the grip was tight.
Y/N's arms closed as she held him close. She began to stroke his back as she heard his sobs continue, the gentle pats she was giving him were a way of saying 'let it all flow'.
At that moment Y/N's body was pressed against Zhongli's, chest to chest, heart to heart. In short, recreating the anatomy of the hug.
Zhongli's breathing would start to slow down as he sniffed a bit. He was finally able to drop his stoic shield and relax around her. He'd slowly start to lean back and place his head on her shoulder as she caressed his back.
One hand continued on his back while the other went to his hair, stroking and playing with it.
"Much better?…" Y/N dared to ask, as she heard no sobs, only hiccups left in the aftermath of crying.
Zhongli's eyes were closed when she spoke. He'd slowly nod and hum out a quiet 'hmhm' as he tried to hold back the last remaining tears he had left to shed. His body relaxed more as he placed his head on her shoulder. His breathing became more even and his heart settled down.
"I'm glad…" Y/N sighed in relief, a small smile forming on her face.
She continued to play with his hair, both of them still standing in the darkness of his office, the only light there was from the window.
His mind was slowly easing away from what caused him to cry in the first place. He felt so safe being in her presence. His quiet voice broke the silence "..Thank you. ..You are so gentle and kind.." Then he remained quiet but his breaths were so quiet she couldn't even hear them anymore. His body was almost asleep in her embrace.
"Heh, don't thank me." She spoke, still in a calm and gentle tone.
Y/N was mildly surprised to barely hear his breathing. "Oh, are you falling asleep?" she asked softly. Though it wasn't to be expected after he had cried.
"..Mh.." His breathing had become so peaceful. She could feel his gentle movements through her hug as he slowly open his mouth and released a small yawn from under her shoulder.
Another smile appeared on her face as she held him still in her arms in that almost sleepy state.
"You'd better get home, Zhongli." She spoke, patting his back so that he could wake up a little and not sleep until he got home.
His eyes opened and he slowly lifted his head from her shoulder with tired eyes. His body was still a little numb from the events before. He'd finally speak again and give a soft smile "..Ah..I will take your consideration.."
Another small yawn escapes his lips as he stood up from her embrace.
"Alright, if it's no problem I'll come with you." She spoke, stretching her body slightly.
The two of them left his office and Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, heading for Zhongli's house.
He'd nod slightly at her offer as he began to walk with her out of the office. As two of them walked through Liyue Harbor, he was completely silent, and he didn't mind it. He felt so calm and at peace while being with her.
On the way, Y/N took her hand, so that he would not stay behind her. The silence between them was comfortable. Hanging lanterns lit the streets.
Before long they arrived at Zhongli's house, he'd finally speak again though he sounded tired; "Thank you again for accompanying me."
She could tell he was still a bit drained from his emotional outburst earlier.
"You're welcome, Zhongli." Y/N sketched a soft smile, then released the grip she had on his hand.
"Ehm, well, I'll be going home now." She spoke again, taking two steps back.
"Ah… of course, I wish you a good night's rest." He would bow his head politely by way of farewell, but before parting he called softly to her, "Wait-"
She smiled and turned around so she could go home until she heard his voice calling her again.
"Oh-" she blurted out.
"What's wrong?" she asked turning again in his direction.
Zhongli reached over and gently grabbed her arm, as he spoke calmly.
"Before you go, can we… can we hug again?"
Y/N was slightly surprised by the request, however it seemed sweet.
"Of course I do." She said and then went over to hug him again.
He'd tightly wrap his strong arms around her in an embrace. His hands would softly brush against her back, his breath was quiet against her neck. He'd speak from that point with a smile on his face
"Thank you.. For listening to me.. For being there for me.."
"I told you it was okay, Zhongli…" He replied quietly.
They spent a few minutes like that, until they parted. "Well, I'm off now." She said with another smile.
He let out a deep sigh and slowly nodded "…I'll say goodbye then…".
Somewhat hesitantly he took a step back as he spoke again "Mhm, on second thought, could we cuddle to sleep?"
Y/N couldn't help but laugh softly at his sweet proposal. "Alright, let's go."

"Goodbye, senior."

Wriothesley was a penultimate year student who Y/N painfully adored. He was handsome, kind and willing to help when needed.
Y/N gathered courage to walk towards him in the hallway. Wriothesley greeted her with his characteristic smile and a wave.
"Do you need help with anything again?"
Suddenly the courage Y/N had summoned up was completely gone. She thought it would be so much easier.
"Ahhh, yes. I mean no-" The opportunity was gone, so all that was left for him to do was to make something up.
"Here." This time she was lucky, it was just her turn to clean the corridors and classrooms. She handed him the broom and dustpan. And just as quickly as she had come, she went in the opposite direction.
Wriothesley watched his shyness from afar and chuckled.
He finished cleaning the hallway and left with the cleaning crew, entering a room that was not his own.
"I've found you, Y/N.". He teased, his grin reaching his sparkling eyes.
Y/N's friends laughed at the little joke, they knew she liked Wriothesley.
Pink painted Y/N's face, turning towards the familiar voice. "Ehh???? I wasn't hiding." She spoke, looking angrily towards her friends, who were now laughing at her flushed face.
His smile grew as he watched Y/N's shy reactions. His gaze drifted to her friends momentarily, finding it mildly amusing how much Y/N's cheeks flared.
"I'm sure you weren't avoiding me. Just cleaning up, were you?" He quirked an eyebrow and smiled even wider as he waited for her response.
"Uhum. Just cleaning up." She replied.
Some students were already leaving the classroom, having finished their parts of the cleaning.
"Ohh, look at the time." She excused herself by looking at her wrist, which didn't even have a watch on it. "It's time for me to go home. See you girls. Bye Wriothesley."
She said a quick goodbye, to leave the classroom, almost running.
He chuckled, finding her words amusing.
"Of course. It's getting late." He agreed, glancing at you as you were about to leave.
When Y/N finally came out of the institution, she patted her cheeks to snap out of it.
Tumblr media
Once she reached her home, she let it be known that she had arrived and rushed to her room, she literally threw herself on her bed. The pink came back to her face as she remembered the interaction she had with Wriothesley, especially since that didn't always happen. Her legs kicked on her bed. Why the hell did she have to like him so much?
She stopped hugging her pillow and looked up slightly, on her desk was a picture of her crying next to him, as Wriothesley was wearing the uniform that the seniors wore.
He only had half a year left before his penultimate year was up, then it would be Wriothesley's last year at the school. An exaggerated sigh escaped his lips. She would have to propose before he left.
Tumblr media
The next day, Y/N had arrived early in her respective classroom. She was sitting in her seat, looking out of the window at the students who had just arrived on campus.
Just then, Wriothesley was just walking along with the rest of the students. He looked up and saw that Y/N was looking out of the window. With a smile, he waved to her.
Y/N's eyes widened as she saw him greeting her, specifically her, with a smile. A pink blush tinged on her face at that action.
Out of embarrassment, Y/N had to stop looking out the window and hide her face in her arms, putting her face against the desk.
Tumblr media
At lunchtime, again there were a few girls chatting with Wriothesley in the line to pick up the food. Nothing new. He, as usual, was being nice.
Y/N on the other hand, was chatting and eating with her friends. She couldn't help but notice that Wriothesley and a few penultimate year students were also entering the cafeteria.
"Uhm." That scene looked familiar.
She had overslept and missed the bus that brought her all the way to the institution. She cursed herself as she came. It just had to be the first day of school.
Once she arrived, a mural showed the classrooms to which each student belonged. She looked at it and went in the direction of her corresponding classroom. By looking quickly, she had by mistake climbed up to the third floor, where the higher grade students were at that time.
And to her surprise he was there, just about to enter his designated classroom. Her mouth dropped open slightly, was that Wriothesley?
He had indeed changed, his hair, once much longer, was now much better groomed and somewhat shorter.
Girls passing by would stare at him and greet him with the typical "Good morning", obviously Wriothesley with all the kindness in the world would respond to the greeting with a smile.
"…Hello…?????"
"Earth calling, communicating, trying to talk to Y/N." Charlotte spoke towards Y/N, as she ran a hand over her face.
At that, Y/N snapped out of her thoughts. "Ah, sorry." She commented with a soft laugh.
"You stared at the wall, did something happen?" Lynette spoke this time, in a concerned tone.
"No, not at all. I was just thinking about whether or not I brought the physics homework." For that then, since she already knew her friends like the back of her hand, she had to lie professionally.
"Oh, okaaay…. wait did you say physics homework?" Navia interjected, stopping eating for a moment, looking at Y/N with intrigue and shock.
Tumblr media
When she saw Wriothesley that first day of school, she knew why the change. Y/N didn't want to confirm it. But it was obvious from the continuous nagging of her friends. Every time a certain girl passed by, he got nudged by them.
That put her off, but it didn't take away from the fact that she did have feelings for Wriothesley, even though they spoke very little.
Tumblr media
Friday 15th.
The classroom where she was sitting was now empty. She was missing lunch, but she didn't care at the time.
It made her uncomfortable, but she wanted to talk to him anyway.
"Should I go one step further?" she thought.
It was now, today or never. There were only a few hours left until the end of the school year and then it was time for the end-of-year holidays.
With a blank piece of paper and a pencil, she didn't think much and began to write, recounting every drop of feelings that lived in her.
Tumblr media
She was leaning against one of the lockers near the entrance door, her face slightly flushed.
For reasons unknown to Y/N, the timing was not the best.
Wriothesley came down the stairs with a puzzled look on his face and was slightly surprised to see her there, waiting for him. Y/N hid the letter behind her back, at that moment feeling unable to deliver it. On closer inspection of Wriothesley's face, he looked as if he had just cried.
The words, "I like you," came out of Y/N's mouth. The letter now crumpled in her hand, waiting for a reaction from him.
"It's okay. Don't say it to comfort me." With a rueful look and a faint smile, was what he said.
"That's not why I said it…" She muttered, watching him go. Her gaze was fixed on the ground. Tears she couldn't hold back, she had already understood but it still hurt.
Tumblr media
The new school year has started. This being the penultimate year of Y/N and respectively the last year of Wriothesley.
The students of the penultimate year had just got their new uniforms which distinguished them from those of the lower grades. Some of them were looking at the murals where the list of the students and the respective classrooms were displayed.
This year Y/N's new goal was simply to try to keep up with Wriothesley, how would she do it? Through grades.
What she wanted most of all was to enjoy the last year she would have Wriothesley still on campus, so she decided to pretend she never confess.
From time to time the two of them would meet in the hallways and at the bus stop. They had pleasant, calm conversations, although Y/N's heart was still beating fast when she was near him.
At the midterm exams, the grades were posted on a specific mural on campus, and thanks to the effort she had put in, she had gotten grades almost as high as a senior's. Her friends gave her a little push, encouraging her to share her achievement with him.
"Uhmm, hello, Wriothesley." She spoke, she had to raise her voice a bit so that her voice could be heard, as there were many more students there.
"Oh, Y/N, hi." Her voice sounded friendly, as always. "How did your grades go?" he spoke again.
"I got a 96 average."
"Really? That's very good, Y/N. Congratulations."
Y/N's face tinged slightly pink along with a smile. "Thank you."
As soon as the school year started, it was coming to an end. Y/N accomplished what she set out to do, even with the knowledge that the two of them couldn't be together she was able to get closer to him.
She even tried in the middle of the year to write all the bad things in another letter that the seniors, including Wriothesley, had, but that didn't stop her from liking him.
Today was graduation day for the seniors. As the ceremony went on, Y/N couldn't help but wonder what it would have been like if she were in his class too.
Maybe sit next to each other? Spending days together, having lunch together, or even having a normal conversation.
But no, at least today, she wouldn't be crying like at her previous graduation. Even though she wouldn't be able to say "Good morning" to him every time they walked down the aisle, she didn't want this memory to be a bad one.
After the ceremony was over, Y/N separated from her group of friends, she looked around for Wriothesley, who was chatting with his group of friends.
"How embarrassing…", she thought, but there was no other way.
"Ahh, excuse me…?" The embarrassment she initially felt increased the moment Wriothesley's friends were watching her, she felt intimidated.
"Y/N, did something happen?" spoke Wriothesley, turning in her direction.
"Can we talk for a moment?" She asked.
"Oh, sure. I'll be right back, guys."
They both walked a little ways away from where they were standing.
"Do you know where you're going to college yet?" Y/N started, a smile on her lips. Her hair previously tied up in two low ponytails had been let down.
"Haha, yeah. I've already planned out a few options."
"Yeah…Anyway, I wish you the best of luck for whatever you do, Wriothesley.", "I like you.", she wanted to add, but wouldn't.
"Thanks, Y/N." He patted her head, with a half-melancholy smile.
At the gesture she felt her eyes water, the typical pink coloring her cheeks, only this time she didn't turn her face away.
"Can we take a picture?" she asked, her tone of voice was calm.
"Sure!"
And just as it was, Y/N called out to one of her classmates who happened to be walking by, handing her her mobile phone so they could take a picture.
They stood side by side. It was almost as if they were recreating the photo from the previous Wriothesley graduation, only this time they were both smiling, especially Y/N, grateful that she could do this for the last time. Both in their senior uniforms.

Y/N forced himself to swallow his pride.
Now she was standing in front of his door, with him looking at her.
Y/N's words got stuck in her throat, her heart had prepared what she was going to say, but her pride was preventing her words from coming out.
"… Hi." She forced herself to say, her voice came out strained and awkward. She felt her palms sweat under his gaze.
Cyno looked at Y/N, his face expressionless and still not saying a word.
He didn't know what to think, nor how to talk about what happened in the past.
After a few seconds of silence between them, Cyno finally broke it.
"What do you want, Y/N?" He asked, not sounding mean or harsh, just neutral.
"Uhm…I was just coming to apologise." She spoke feeling embarrassed, with her willpower she kept her gaze on his eyes.
Cyno crossed his arms, looking at Y/N for a few seconds. He seemed to be contemplating what to do next, though he wasn't angry nor frustrated.
"Fine." He said after those few seconds, his tone slightly annoyed if not bored. "Come inside." He said, and moved out of the way from his door, making space for Y/N.
She nodded and walked into his house, her eyes swept over the place where there was a picture of the two of them, she sighed as she saw it still there.
"…as I said before, I'm sorry." She spoke, her paragraph she had practiced for this moment completely slipped her mind.
"I just…I really don't like how you leave for days at a time without telling me." She spoke again, a hint of frustration noticeable in her voice.
Cyno's face didn't change a bit, still as expressionless as before. He glanced over at the picture of them, sighing with Y/N.
He took a step closer to her.
"There are many reasons for me to leave for days, Y/N." He said, his tone still neutral. "I have my work as a matra to take care of, I sometimes do my TCG activities…" He continued.
"I know, but how do I know where you are? or what you're doing? or if you're okay? or if you're okay? or if…" Again, her brain played a trick on her, just like it did when they fought.
"…are you with someone else?" She continued her sentence, frowning at the possible idea of that scenario.
A slight annoyance flashed on Cyno's face as he listened to Y/N's words, though this annoyance didn't last. When she finished, he kept his neutral tone as always.
"So you don't trust me, Y/N?" He said. "Are you assuming something just because I won't tell you where I am or what I'm doing?"
"Do you want me to update you every five or ten minutes so that you know where I am and what I do?" He added, sounding sarcastic.
"Ah. No!" She sighed trying to relax, it looked like they were going to fight again. Besides the way he was responding left a lot to be said.
"It's not that I don't trust you. I'm just asking you to tell me when you're going to leave for some time." She spoke.
She does trust him, it's just that her mind won't stop tormenting her because of her past relationships.
Cyno looked at Y/N as she tried to compose herself. His face was expressionless, so there's no way for her to know that she was doing slightly well in getting through to him.
"So you're afraid I'll leave for so long you might think I'm cheating, is that it?" He asked again, crossing his arms. "You do know that I'm not cheating with anyone." He continued, still talking in a neutral tone.
"…"
"No, I don't know. I don't know if every time you leave you're seeing someone." She spoke, she was supposed to come to apologise, not to get back to the topic they didn't finish talking about.
At her words, Cyno's face finally twisted into a frown. "Are you serious? Are you actually thinking I'm cheating on you with other women? Is that what's eating you?" He asked.
"This is the reason why we split." He continued, still sounding frustrated. "This is the exact reason. Can't you trust me, Y/N? Can't you just trust me to do my work or spend time on my own without thinking I'm going to cheat on you?"
"Damn it…"
"I swear I do trust you, Cyno."
"Or at least I try to." Her voice sounded desperate and frustrated, if only she had healed the traumas of her past relationships, none of this would be happening.
Cyno looked at her, his frown staying put on his face. "Then why are you accusing me of cheating?" He asked again. "Are you still not over the way your previous relationships went or something? Not everything is about your exes. I'm not your ex."
"Can't you just learn to trust me or do I really not mean a thing to you?" He continued, still sounding frustrated and annoyed.
"I don't even know why I came to apologise to you if you behave like that too." She spoke quietly, gradually calmed down, then took about three deep breaths.
"Neither of us can understand each other."
Cyno let out a long sigh, crossing his arms as he looked at the ground. "Guess we can't…" He said, his tone becoming neutral.
"Look, just forget it." He continued. "It's late, too. You should go home."
A shaky sigh came out of Y/N's mouth.
"Yes, it's late." She glanced sideways at the picture of the two of them hugging.
"Have a rest." She spoke and walked out the door of her house. She was trying, she was really trying, but she couldn't do much if he couldn't understand because of her bad experiences with her past relationships.

That he ignores Y/N is nothing new, even if they are married. He doesn't pay attention to her anymore.
Today, it would be their 5th anniversary, however, she had other plans. Fed up with him treating her like nothing, she filed for divorce papers.
Alhaitham's eyes narrowed the moment she showed him the papers. He gave them a quick glance, not a hint of sadness in his eyes.
He sighed, shaking his head.
"I'm not going to sign them," he shrugs, before trying to leave again.
"What-" Y/N blurted out.
"Ah, no. You stay here and sign." she spoke, moving closer to him, crushing the papers to his chest.
He scoffs, his eyes narrowing on her.
"Not gonna happen."
"I refuse to sign those papers.", he continues trying to walk past, not bothering to listen to anything she have to say.
"But-" Y/N felt her eye twitch with discomfort.
"You're going to sign it because you're going to sign it, Alhaitham." she spoke again, this time she moved, blocking his path.
His eyes widen at her boldness. He huffs, seeming frustrated.
"Dont test me."
He sternly speaks, his tone harsh, as he tries to walk past her again.
"Oh, yes I do." she for her part also narrowed her eyes, looking at him. Y/N refused to let it go until he signed the divorce papers.
Alhaitham, clearly annoyed, pushes her out of the way forcefully, but not enough to injure her, just enough to get her out of his way.
He takes a deep breath, before looking down at the paperwork in disgust, and then look at her.
"Do you really want to do this? Its the 5th anniversary and you think its best to divorce me?"
She muttered a curse as she was pushed out of the way.
"Oh, come on." She scoffed.
"At least remember our anniversary," she thought rolling her eyes.
"You really think this is a nice marriage?"
He scoffs at her.
"I never said it was a 'nice' marriage.", he crosses his arms and looks up at her.
"But we made a vow and i intend to keep it."
He sighs, his body tensing at the mention of the vow.
"Im not leaving just because you want me to."
"Oh, so I'm the one who wants to end it all?"
"How cynical you are. Since the beginning of our marriage you've ignored me and these past few weeks you haven't even paid me any attention." she spoke, almost spitting out her words.
Alhaitham rolls his eyes, clearly annoyed.
"Stop complaining."
He huffs.
"I know im not the best husband, but in my mind, im doing everything that i need to do to make things work.", he said narrows his eyes.
"What more do you want me to do?"
"Ohhh, it does work.", she spoke, scoffing at his words.
She flicked her hair behind her ear in frustration in her attempt to calm herself. "Just sign the divorce papers, Alhaitham."
"Im not signing them."
He looks up at her sternly.
"You made a vow to be with me…for better…or for worse.", his tone was harsh.
"Im not going anywhere, Y/N."
"Agh, damn it." she complained, rubbing the bridge of her nose, she felt her eye twitch from the strain.
"Why are you doing this, Alhaitham?"
"Why don't you want a divorce once and for all?", she asked.
He sighs, before lowering his head, now speaking in an unusually calm tone.
"I still care about you, Y/N."
He sighs again, his tone turning harsh again.
"I dont want a divorce and i refuse to get one.", he said, shaking his head.
"This marriage is going to continue and that's all there is too it."
Perhaps, in previous years, his words would have made her fall again, sweetened her and made her heart skip a beat. But there simply wasn't that effect anymore.
"Ahh." She sighed.
"Good, okay, perfect." Y/N blurted out, as she threw the divorce papers at his chest.
"If you don't get out, I will.", after saying that, she quickly went to their shared room, hastily pulling out her things and stuffing them into a suitcase.
He huffs, but before he can say anything else, Y/N leave into their shared bedroom. He follows her, the papers in hand, looking down at them.
"What are you-"
But before he can finish his sentence, she´s already leaving with her belongings.
"You cant be serious."
He looks at her, his expression confused and his tone harsh again.
"You cant seriously do this, Y/N."
"Ohh, yes I can.", she merely said that. She closed the two suitcases with her things inside, it wasn't difficult, as she only had her clothes, clothes she bought herself, not the clothes her soon-to-be ex-husband had given her.
She left the room, at a hurried pace. She left the other set of keys she had on the table as she opened the door.
He looks at her in disbelief and looks back down at the paperwork.
"This is absurd."
In a moment he reaches for her, grabbing her arm.
"Y/N. Wait."
"No." She let go easily as the grip was not strong.
"Goodbye, Alhaitham.", she said, a bitter taste left in her mouth. She turned and walked out of the house, not turning back.
She didn't find it hard to say goodbye, she supposed it was because she had already been thinking for a few months about this divorce thing. Now should she be happy or sad? She didn't know.
What about him? He did nothing. He just stood there, in the doorway of their now former shared home, watching her leave. His hands clenched tightly around the divorce papers in his hand, crumpling them.

It's been a long, long time
Tumblr media
pairing: Neuvillette x gn! reader. (first time making a gn reader, hope it's good.) cw/genre: light angst, death mentions, fluff, one shot. masterlist! requests open!
Tumblr media
The years go by too fast for everyone. Years passed in minutes for those who live more than 100 years.
The arrival and departure of important and transient people in their lives affects them. But as they are already used to it, they can only wish them a good journey. And with luck; to meet again in this tide of fires that are people.
Life is beautiful in the golden years, old age is something you can't be afraid of. Trembling, calloused hands, hair now white from the abundance of grey hair, wrinkled skin. It is not easy for everyone to grow old, let alone if you see that your partner does not grow old.
Life ends, leaving memories, beautiful and sad memories, withering loves. The mourning of those great ones who do not live as long as other humans continues. Wishing their important ones a safe journey, trying to appease the resentment in their hearts for the passing of their loved one.
With hope in front of them that they would meet again, start another new cycle. And that would be no impediment to a certain hydro dragon.
Time passes again. Streets lit up under the velvet of the night, bustle and joy once again. In a crowd, after a long search, hypothetically both face each other with some distance in between.
Never thought that you would be standing here so close to me.
Looks of curiosity and longing, slow and calm approach. A familiar presence for the new life. A sea of memories for the long-lived.
There's so much i feel that i should say, but words can wait until some other day.
From acquaintances to close ones, from close ones to friends and so on to lovers. The cycle repeats itself and for him it will never be boring.
Souls long connected; "Haven't felt like this, my dear since i can't remember when." Memories embedded and blurred in the human's fragile mind, keeping warm with their heart.
Evenings of ballads, a slow dance in the living room of a shared house, a longing moment. Bodies glued together and in sync, giving off longing and the purest affection that can be seen in two lovers.
Radio on and slightly worn; "Kiss me once, then kiss twice, then kiss me once again…"
Just an intimate moment, face to face, hands clasped, moving from side to side in slow rhythm.
"You'll never know how many dreams I've dreamed about you." A gentle reminder, he missed all this, the touch, the scent, the softness of their love. How lonely he felt at their lover's departure, waiting for such a moment again. Not knowing that the universe had as a gift many more occasions to relive memories and let them live on in his memory.
"It's been a long, long time, mon amour."

Independence, trust and talk

pairing: Neuvillette x fem!reader cw/genre: light angst, fluff, established relationships, short. masterlist! requests open!
Tumblr media
Y/N and Neuvillette were having a fight.
Once the two stopped arguing, they just looked at each other. The room was silent, the tension was heavy. Neuvillette looked like he was about to break down, he never liked to argue… especially with her.
Neuvillette left the room and went into his and her bedroom, closing the door behind him.
Suddenly, there was a clap of thunder in the sky as it started pouring rain outside.
"You're upset, to keep talking coherently I need you to calm down, Y/N." Her face looked relaxed but inside she was trying to find a solution to the problem.
"Calm down my balls I don't have any, Neuvillette." Maybe she was a little rude with that.
"The only thing is that you don't trust me."
"That's not true, yes I do-"
"Stop lying! You think I'm weak compared to the traveller, he's the one you've always asked for help-" She interrupted him again.
"Right! Yes, you are too weak and vulnerable compared to all of Fontaine." After all, Neuvillette was getting irritable too.
"…" Silence on both sides.
"If you consider me like that, why the fuck did we get married!?" she shouted, her voice coming out choppy.
Y/N ran both hands through her hair as she remembered the argument. She felt her eyes burning, tears begging to come out. She froze in place from before, her body was numb.
With one of the sleeves of his t-shirt she wiped away her tears roughly, as she moved towards the kitchen. She set about preparing dinner with sobs and mumbles.
She might not be the strongest, but at least she wanted to feel useful. Especially seeing how happy and relieved her husband looked to engage in conversation with the traveller.
It wasn't long before Neuvillette came out of the room, noticing that his wife was already making dinner.
He couldn't believe it, that after their argument his wife could still make the meal… if he had been in her place, he would have cancelled all meal plans.
It seems that for Y/N, dinner was a good distraction from her feelings.
He walked over to her and gave her a back hug.
Her body tensed as she felt Neuvillette's arms around her waist.
"Mhm, not now, Neuvillette." She mumbled, finishing cooking dinner, she turned off the cooker. She pulled away from his grip in a calm manner.
"Dinner is ready, just for you to help yourself." She spoke, not looking at him.
His heart was heavy from the words spoken in the heat of the fight to his wife.
He decided to take a step back, and not press his wife.
"Thank you, Y/N."
He went to serve their dinner, and then sat down at the table.
"I'm going out for some air, I'll be right back." She spoke, making her way to their shared bedroom, just to put on a sweater.
"It's okay, Y/N."
He too began to eat, he wouldn't want his wife to overlook her own food.
In the back of his mind were several things he wanted to say to her, but he knew it wasn't the time.
...
Y/N walked and walked, wandering here and there, she was looking for someone, but nothing appeared.
"Hmmm…" She thought as she put a hand to her chin.
Maybe if she faked a dangerous situation? Shame on her, that wouldn't work.
She continued strolling through the brightly lit streets of Fontaine, the rain had stopped a moment ago. She was so deep in thought that she bumped into someone, there were no falls.
"Oh! Finally, Traveler." And obviously, paimon.
...
Y/N returned after a one hour, the time spent asking the traveller a few questions flew by.
Neuvillette had just finished eating when Y/N returned.
"How did it go?" He asked her, his tone of voice lacking confidence.
He knew something was going to bother her, but he didn't know how to talk to her without starting the argument they'd had this afternoon all over again. But to resolve it they had to talk.
"Oh-uhm. Calm and relaxed. Heh." She spoke, truth be told she had relaxed for what he was before, the air helps a lot.
Neuvillette's face still looked sad after their argument this afternoon, but in his mind he had an idea of how to tell his wife what he wanted.
He planned to ask for her forgiveness.
"Well, Y/N, can we talk?"
"Ah, yes, what is it?" she asked as she took off her jacket and hung it on the coat rack by the door.
"Can I talk to you about what happened this afternoon?"
"…" She sighed.
"Right." They both sat on the furniture, neither spoke.
He looked her straight in the eye.
"Y/N, I'm sorry for my attitude this afternoon. It was very hurtful, and it hurts me to know that I hurt the person I love and who loves me."
"I know my attitude was horrible, but I never questioned your ability to protect yourself."
He held out his hand in case Y/N wanted to take it.
"And if according to you you don't question my ability, why don't you ever let me do things on my own?" She spoke, looking down at her hands, accepting his grip on her hand.
"…I wish you would consider me differently." She muttered.
Neuvillette gave her hand a gentle tug and made her look up at him.
"To keep you from hurting yourself, that's the main thing."
He couldn't see her sad for this reason, he didn't want to see her sad for something he had done.
"I wouldn't want you to think that I never trust you, but I don't want you to overlook your safety."
His heart felt a little lighter.
"I know I've been very overprotective, and I've made you feel incapable… I'm sorry."
She sighed.
"I didn't see it that way." She spoke, feeling embarrassed.
"But really, I don't want you to keep sending the traveller to take care of me."
"Okay, so… would you feel more comfortable if you were out walking around or doing your commissions by yourself?"
He was staring at her, he was trying to understand her.
"Uhum." She mused with a nod.
"By the way…what did you do when you went out?" he asked curiously, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear.
"Ohhh, I went to ask the traveller some questions." She spoke, feeling embarrassed about it.
"Mmm, what things?" He smiled at his wife.
"About how I can be so strong sometimes, you know… so I can be better when I do my commissions."
"Do you want to be better at your commissions?"
He laughed as he asked Y/N that question, because he already knew the real reason she asked that question.
"Don't laugh." She snorted looking away ruefully.
"I asked so you wouldn't worry when I go out alone."
"Don't worry, honey, I think you may already be able to take control of your own life. I don't have any doubts in you."
At the end of it all, Neuvillette understood that Y/N just wanted a little independence.

A break-up is always painful for both parties. However, there is always one who feels it more.
The memory of his ex-girlfriend was present, even when it was time to get up, Childe looked hurriedly at the screen of his mobile phone.
No message, no call.
He sighed, lying back on his bed, closing his eyes.
Delicate, soft kisses full of love, being deposited on that freckled face of his. Being the weekend, he slept in later.
"So cute.", she thought. Running a hand through her hair, brushing away red locks that covered her face.
At the sudden touch, feeling tickled, he opened one eye first. Seeing his beloved girlfriend, there, beside him, he grinned like a fool. Stretching his arms out in her direction, grabbing her and pulling her against his chest.
The need to write to him tormented him, he rubbed his face in his pillow, trying to make those memories fade.
His bed empty, the curtains closed wide. No light in the room.
He reluctantly got up to go to breakfast, he wasn't hungry, but her insistent voice nagging him to eat had become a habit.
Hands intertwined, sidelong glances, two young people in love, each sitting firmly on the furniture, unable to cut the distance. Afternoons pretending to watch television.
He grabbed his mobile phone, inhaling and exhaling three times in a row, his hands trembling for a moment. Would it be okay if…?
He was masochistic and went through the photos he still kept in his phone's gallery. Pictures of the two of them in another country. "Will she still be travelling there like every holiday?" he wondered.
His smile lingered for a few moments longer.
Her hand felt like it was sweating, she looked at her boyfriend, being so calm and even eating a huge airport burger. She even felt nauseous from the nerves of flying. She tightened her grip on his arm now, as she checked in, the urge to go to a nice beach gone. But no, she convinced herself, he gave her lots of kisses and caresses as they sat in the plane seats, keeping her as relaxed as possible.
He did, he sent a message. He saved the number again, as a new contact. He mentally thanked himself for having stuck the paper with his number on it on the fridge.
A simple; "How are you?" was all he sent.
He felt nervous, tousling his hair with both hands.
Four hours passed, he sent another message again.
"I don't know why but I thought of you both," he sent, followed by a picture of two kittens.
Sent. The status of the messages was just sent.
The number of his flat he promised to remember forever. 506. The street where his heart lived. Where he spent more time than in his own home. With 16, where everything changed and started.
A new day, another "How are you?" message. Soon he started leaving calls, not expecting a reply, just letting her know he was there.
Little by little, becoming routine in three months.
Five missed calls, four letters, three injuries, two lucky ones.
Every once in a while, Childe would stop by the coffee shop where they would have a nice oatmeal biscuit and a hot chocolate in the middle of winter. As well as passing the bar, where they fought over drinking each other's glass, the fight ended in laughter and jokes.
He never expected a response.
Kissing in the rain after playing catch, feeling like little kids, not caring that people looked at them strangely for being in the pouring rain. A bit cliché, but theirs.
The memory of why he fell in love, remembering what made her fall in love.
A routine phone call.
Y/N was sitting on a bench, washing her boyfriend's hair, who had fallen ill. Caring for him with so much love, even though she would probably end up getting sick too.
Sneaking into his bed, on a summer night. Kisses on her forehead from him. His turn to watch her sleep so peacefully.
He was dying to hear her voice. As if it was his lucky day, he was about to hang up. However, the opposite phone was answered.
A "Hello?" from her was enough to trigger feelings that were supposed to be locked away. It felt the same, nothing changed.
The words he thought of for this moment, with no hope that it would come, were completely forgotten.
"How are you? Are you still living in 506?"

"My day was good."
He tilted his head and raised his eyebrow slightly. He still wanted a more specific answer than the one she had given him, but her flat response puzzled him. He simply sighed, closing his eyes momentarily, nodding at her words.
A few days passed. They weren't painful, just strange and empty. Things died down noticeably, they rarely spoke to each other. Y/N was obviously still sleeping with Wriothesley in his bed, but there were no lively responses anymore.
The atmosphere between the two was weird, it seemed like they were becoming strangers.
He and Y/N had their bad moments and their good times before, but this time… He really wondered if she still cared about him, if she even wanted to spend time together or talk at all anymore.
He sighed, his face falling. He couldn’t shake the feeling that their relationship was fading, no matter what he did or said.
Mentally Y/N did not want to tell her things, she felt that her day-to-day life with her boyfriend was just a "good morning" and "good night". Her heart felt heavy. Inside there was guilt, confusion and sadness, it all felt too much and too little at the same time.
Momentarily she kept wondering if it was her fault for being so talkative, intense and for making such a big deal out of it. But on the other hand, she needed it, she needed to feel that way, especially since it wasn't the first time Wriothesley had been very direct and said such comments. Y/N wondered if she really was the problem.
It also didn't help that he tried to be close to her at first, but after a few days, he just gave up. Letting the days go by as if nothing had happened. Residents of the fortress of meropid felt a tension in the air as they passed by Wriothesley's office.
The atmosphere felt weird as everyone else passed through, the residents could tell that the two were not the same as before. Y/N was no longer her cheerful and friendly self around the people, and she and Wriothesley weren't even touching each other anymore.
It was all routine.
Boring and routine.
Y/N, with the free time she had, from not chatting about every little thing with her boyfriend, drew the various flowers and plants she was seeing and collecting in a small notebook. Some she left pressed against the papers to preserve them.
She noticed the clock on the bedside table in Wriothesley's room; it was 11:48 p.m. She closed her notebook, tucking it away in a drawer of her notebook.
She wondered if Wriothesley was going upstairs to sleep at the same time, but she wasn't sure, because she noticed that he had been sleeping almost into the early hours of the morning. She knew because she felt the bed sag with his weight every time he lay down.
She kicked off her low shoes and, now comfortably dressed, lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
Wriothesley sat at his desk, bored and tired. He spent most of the day working, and he was starting to wonder if all the paperwork was even worth it in the end. He didn't even feel like talking to anyone else either, and it felt weird not to have Y/N's cheerful voice at his side.
He thought it might be better if he went to bed early tonight, try to recharge himself before tomorrow's workload.
She heard Wriothesley's heavy footsteps, was slightly surprised to learn that he would be sleeping a little earlier than he had normally started sleeping. Or at least trying to.
She followed him with her eyes for a moment and then turned her body towards the wall, he was doing the same. She was waiting for him to lie down.
Wriothesley quietly crawled into bed, lying at the same side as Y/N, his back turned to her. He was too tired to think. He tried his best to fall asleep, but it was difficult to get rid of these bad thoughts that were plaguing his mind about their relationship.
He climbed into bed and lay down, his eyes beginning to feel a bit heavy.
"Goodnight, Y/N." He mumbled, closing his eyes. Even though they were both in bed now, it still didn't feel like they were really sleeping together, as if there was a rift between them.
The small lamp on his side of the bed was lit, the only one of the two lamps still illuminating the room.
"Goodnight, Wriothesley." She murmured too. She was thinking of trying something, to ease the tension or something.
It was a few minutes before she managed to calm her mental lacuna and doubt about it until she spoke, "I love you." She said turning her head slightly in his direction.
…?
There was only silence on Wriothesley's part.
With a lump in her throat now and hot tears threatening to fall, she turned away from him again. Perhaps she shouldn't have tried anything and kept quiet.
In reality, all Wriothesley heard was the "Goodnight" she gave him. He was so mentally exhausted that he fell asleep surprisingly quickly.
But because of that, there is now a little misunderstanding.
Y/N closed her eyes, in her attempt to calm herself, she fell asleep as well. Until…
Wriothesley, with his back facing away from Y/N, let out an audible gulp.
"Oh, Y/N…"
He sighed, unable to bring himself to look at her. He felt like something inside of him had broken, but he couldn't fix it.
"I don't think I do love you…" He whispered, his voice barely audible. He felt awful, like he was being cruel to Y/N, like he was being a bad person.
"…W-what?" she blurted out.
Feeling like she was choking, she hurriedly got up from the bed. Breathing shakily as she moved her gaze to all corners of the room. She touched her face as it felt wet, she was crying.
She startled remembering the words her boyfriend had said to her and turned to look at him. There he was, sleeping. She had had a nightmare.
Y/N watched him breathing slowly and softly, choosing to do the same, calming herself as she watched him breathe and follow his rhythm.
Wriothesley sighed, moving in his sleep slightly as he did so. His face looked so calm and peaceful, as if he was dreaming of something nice. But in his dream, Y/N was not there. It was like a cruel reminder that she was no longer as she used to be.
He groaned something unintelligible as he slept and his brow was furrowed.
As Y/N managed to calm down, she wiped away the tears, with the back of her hand, that remained on her cheeks. She sighed, standing still, her hand lifted.
She heard him muttering things she couldn't decipher, in the deep darkness of the room she focused on his face which had now puckered.
She hesitated at first, but ended up bringing her hand up to Wriothesley's face. She brushed a few strands of hair away from his face and gently caressed his cheek, as she had often done before.
Wriothesley stirred slightly in his sleep as Y/N touched his face, his frown easing out of his features slightly. It was as if he was being calmed down by her.
He continued to sleep peacefully afterwards, his breath slow and heavy. It felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted off his chest.
Y/N sighed quietly again. She stopped her action on Wriothesley's face as she focused on the fact that he no longer had that scowl on his face. She lay back on the bed, only this time without her back to him, falling asleep after watching his chest slowly rise and fall for a while longer.
Wriothesley didn't move anymore in his sleep, but his face looked at ease. Y/N could still see him breathing slowly, and she could feel him radiating heat while he slept. It was… strangely calming, to see him like this.
Y/N ended up closing her eyes completely, falling into a deep sleep.
Without knowing it, they were both sleeping facing each other, seeming as if the gap between them had narrowed.
Morning came, or so the clock on the bedside table on Wriothesley's side indicated.
Wriothesley slept through the night until morning, his eyes opening slowly. He could hear a soft breathing next to him and a small rustling sound.
He stretched, his body feeling slightly sore from the previous day's work. He began to get dressed, Y/N was still in the room and asleep.
Y/N listened to the sounds of clothes and metal in the background. She opened her eyes heavily, not moving from the bed. Wriothesley was on his back getting dressed in his everyday clothes, putting away the clothes he had taken off.
She sat still on the bed, sighing. He didn't know whether she should speak to him first or not. Especially since he didn't even reply to her attempt at affection yesterday.
She grimaced a little at the memory, but ended up speaking. "Good morning, Wriothesley."
Once he was done dressing, Wriothesley turned to face Y/N. Wriothesley turned back to face Y/N, his eyes widening a bit when he saw the look on her face. He could see that she had been crying, and he couldn't help the sinking feeling he felt in his heart.
"Morning, Y/N." He nodded to her as he did so.
"Did you sleep well?" He asked, wanting to make small talk to try to clear up this strange awkwardness between them.
"Mmm yes, and you?" As she spoke, she got up from the bed, incidentally laying it out so that she was tidied up.
Once she was done, she started towards the wardrobe, standing next to Wriothesley, to change her clothes.
Wriothesley watched her for a moment, wanting to try and say something that would lighten the mood between the two of them.
"Very good. Thank you." He nodded at her, noticing the fact that she was avoiding looking at him despite being so close to him. He couldn't help but wonder if she was trying to avoid him, or if there could have been even a chance that she didn't want to talk to him. He let out an audible sigh.
"Y/N…" He began.
She finished changing, as usual, put on a long light blue dress, and began to comb her hair, making a half-tail and putting on a black bow.
"Mm? Tell me, what's wrong?" Y/N turned to see him as she heard his voice call out to her. She replied as she finished arranging the ribbon in her hair.
Wriothesley took a deep breath and tried to find the right words before they would get caught in his throat. He had spent the night trying to figure out how to approach the situation with Y/N, but he still hadn't found the answer.
"Yesterday…" He began, stopping for a moment to try and gather his thoughts. "Did you say anything other than 'goodnight' yesterday?" He asked, as he had fallen asleep so quickly that he didn't know if it had been his imagination to seem as if she had said something else to him.
Oh?
There was silence from Y/N, there were so many thoughts and questions about what she was asking him. Had he not heard her "I love you"? Is that why he didn't respond to the affection?
"Oh… uhm, no." She shook her head, cocking her head to the side in curiosity.
She left the comb on the bedside table and slipped on another of her low shoes.
Wriothesley narrowed his eyes at her briefly in disbelief, as he still couldn't convince himself that she hadn't actually said what she said. He didn't know whether to feel glad or upset, though he did notice that he felt a bit relieved that it hadn't been a reality.
"I… thought that I heard something else yesterday.." He muttered, looking away from her.
She just looked at him trying to give him a soft smile, which came out more like a grimace.
Just before she left he hesitated for a moment whether to say what he was thinking, Maybe that might improve the relationship, so why not?
"Ah, you look…" He spoke somewhat belatedly, as Y/N had already left the room unable to hear his words.
"…pretty."
Wriothesley just stared back at her before also walking out the door, closing it carefully behind him. He let out a deep sigh, his head felt like it was overflowing. For the first time in a long time, he wished that there was no work that he had to do today so that he could process his thoughts better.
Y/N arrived first at the dining room, where he sat down at one of the tables. She began chatting with some of the prison residents who were also seated.
Then Wriothesley arrived, she noticed an uneasiness on his face, he looked frustrated. She wondered inwardly why, since he was normal in the dormitory.
Once he had arrived at the dinner table, he sat in the chair and let out a weary sigh. In a way, he was hoping that there was a way to start over with Y/N, to try and fix the strange atmosphere that had been building between them for the past few weeks.
He started to eat, but as he went forth with his meal, he felt like he was just going through the motions, as he barely tasted his food.
Suddenly, one of the residents passed him the Wriothesley voice. He got up from the table and left, following the boy.
Half an hour later, Y/N had stopped by to greet Sigewinne. As he walked towards the infirmary he saw Wriothesley, he was… showing the facilities of the fortress of meropide to a blond boy. Him? Wriothesley? The duke of the fortress of merodide? In person?
He let out a slight chuckle as he was giving the resident a tour around The Fortress of Meropide. He had thought that it would be best to introduce the place to a new resident for them to be properly acquainted.
As he listened to what the resident was saying, he noticed that Y/N was looking at him with an expression he couldn't quite understand.
The days went by too fast, Y/N heard all the news from the residents of the prison, before Wriothesley gave a guided tour to the blond boy who was a traveller from distant lands, one of the fatui heralds who ended up missing had been there before, and three more people had arrived as well. In all that time, Y/N had noticed her boyfriend getting more stressed. From what she had heard, it was something about the primordial sea.
Now she was in the shower in Wriothesley's room, just back from the surface with new flowers to draw.
Wriothesley was in his office downstairs.
It wasn't long before a few minutes later, exactly 10 minutes after Y/N had come out of the bath she heard the doors to her boyfriend's office being opened.
She didn't think anything of it as it was probably Sigewinne or something. She set about putting on new, clean clothes, her hair was still wet so she couldn't get it into a bun.
She reached over to the nightstand to pull out her notebook, until she heard a shout, "Wriothesley, were did you take my siblings?!"
Y/N was startled to hear the scream and moments later the sound of a gun.
Immediately she rushed out of the room, to find Sigewinne, Wriothesley and two boys she didn't know, one of whom appeared to be the traveller. As far as Y/N could see, the boy she didn't know was close to her boyfriend and Sigewinne had just shot him with a sedative.
In the end, they all left, leaving Wriothesley and Y/N alone again.
He sighed heavily, leaning his body against his desk as he rubbed his temples.
Y/N hesitated whether to approach him or not. She walked towards him with hesitant steps, after all Wriothesley was still her partner.
"Uhmm…are you feeling alright?" She asked, it seemed the scene earlier had been stressful even if he didn't show it.
Wriothesley closed his eyes as he put his head in his hand and sighed deeply.
"No, Y/N. Not at all." He paused in replying as he didn't want to alarm her.
"…It's a long story." He said.
"…"
"..."
There was silence between the two.
Nothing seemed to change, Y/N wasn't sure if she liked it or was just getting used to how their relationship had become.
Wriothesley was beginning to hate it when neither of them had anything to say. Neither knew what to do to fix their relationship, as they seemed to be getting used to it.
"Erm, why don't you take a shower?" she proposed, in her attempt to get him to relax. She of course still cared about him.
"Good idea…" He said in a tone of voice that showed he wasn't really in favour of the idea, but he was so stressed out that he found it hard to think for himself.
He slowly got up from his chair and left the room, with legs that seemed tired. Lack of sleep was finally catching up with him, which didn't seem good at the moment.
Wriothesley was already climbing the stairs with heavy steps, Y/N was also going up to the dormitory waiting for him to go up first.
However, he, being tired and sleepy, stepped wrongly on the first two steps. He staggered and fell backwards to the floor.
Y/N's eyes widened in surprise and a giggle escaped and he immediately covered his mouth with his hand.
Once he heard the sound of Y/N's laugh, he felt a small smirk form on his lips. He was tempted to say something witty to her about it, but he held back.
"Are you… laughing at me?" He asked, rubbing his injured tailbone.
"Nooo, not at all." He replied, looking away. She couldn't help but laugh as she watched him fall.
He rolled his eyes as he heard her words of denial.
"Ah, yes you are laughing…"
He got up slowly but steadily and began walking toward Y/N.
"Mmm, let's see if this is funny-" He said lightly. When he was close to her, he began to tickle her ribs.
"Ah- Wriothesley!" She spoke with a chuckle, trying to move to another side of his office so he wouldn't keep tickling her.
He chuckled as he continued to tickle her, as he walked around her slowly.
"No, you're not going that way…" He paused so he could laugh for a second, before continuing.
After a few minutes of more laughter and tickling, Wriothesley stopped.
The moment was enjoyable and comforting for both of them. It felt like before, as if nothing had happened, they both missed the feeling.
Y/N was breathing heavily from the laughter while still having a slight smile on her face.
He began to look at her with a soft smile. He could tell that she was struggling to catch her breath, and despite how playful and sweet the moment was, Wriothesley felt guilty that she had had to put up with him for this long.
"Y/N," He started to say. "I'm so-"
Wriothesley's words were cut off by a sudden tremor in the ground.
Y/N looked at him with concern.
"Go to the surface, now." Wriothesley told him with a straight face, as Clorinde burst into his office and the two of them descended a staircase.
Y/N did as she was instructed, leaving Wriothesley's office in confusion, watching the people rushing towards the lift.
In all that time spent, Y/N could not think about what her boyfriend was doing and if he was okay. The residents of the fortress of meropid were on the surface, waiting for directions.
...
Sigewinne was checking on some of the residents, already at the time of evacuation they had bumped into each other. Y/N was pacing back and forth, trying to help Sigewinne with the people. Until she told him that she was going to look for Wriothesley, to see how he was doing.
Her pace was quick and steady until she reached his office, walked in and there he was, Y/N's chest heaved with relief. She cut the distance between them and approached him, cupping him by both cheeks.
"Are you all right? What happened down there?" She asked with a tone of concern as she looked at his face and body, searching for any injuries or anything.
He looked back at her as she came over and took hold of his face. He was relieved at her concern and it gave him a small amount of hope that maybe there was still a chance to fix their relationship.
Wriothesley sighed when she was asked what had happened.
"It's something, complicated…it's about the primordial sea."
After a big talk about the situation that had just happened. Y/N sighed.
"So… it's all right for now?" She asked with a frown.
"For now, yes, it's calmer now." Wriothesley replied. Y/N could notice that the gravity of the whole situation wasn't a good one, even though it seemed that at the moment, that there was a brief respite in it all.
She nodded.
It seemed that the atmosphere between the two of them was slowly ceasing to be awkward. It was a good thing for Y/N.
There was yet another silence, she didn't know whether to classify it as quiet.
"Uhm, so now you will bathe?" She spoke, relieving some of the worry from the previous topic.
"Ah, yes… of course." Wriothesley said. A few more seconds of silence followed, which this time was awkward. The two had a topic to talk about, but didn't want to bring it up again.
"Y/N…" He began to feel a little embarrassed to speak, but he had to do it anyway.
"I need to talk to you." He said, lowering his voice as he uttered the last word.
"Oh, me too."
She spoke, her voice was quiet and calm. She wondered what he had to say to her.
"How about you take your bath first and then we'll talk?" She asked, cocking her head in his direction.
"Mm, yeah, it's okay…" He said, as if it was nothing important at the time.
"I won't delay." There was a hope in his voice: he wanted things to get better between them. Though the words he said were few, Y/N could tell he was trying to ease some of the distance that had been separating them.
She smiled slightly and nodded, following him up the stairs. Arriving in the bedroom, Wriothesley quickly went into the bathroom, closing the door behind him.
Y/N sat on the bed, pulling out her notebook and sketching the occasional flower as she waited for her boyfriend to finish his bath.
As soon as he closed the bathroom door, Wriothesley let out the heavy breath that was waiting to be expelled. He stared at his own reflection for a moment before turning on the water. His expression was tense and fatigued, his voice giving him away as he spoke, a mixture of those two states. And Y/N had given him a sense that this conversation would not end well for either of them.
As he said, Wriothesley didn't take long. He came out after five minutes, straight to the wardrobe to change into more comfortable clothes.
"So, what did you want to tell me?" She said, putting aside her little notebook. She wanted to know what he wanted to tell her first.
Wriothesley finished changing, so he proceeded to sit on the other end of the bed, looking at Y/N hesitantly.
"Hmm, shall we say it at the same time?" She spoke, in a strangely calm and soft voice.
Wriothesley began to think about what Y/N meant by 'saying it at the same time'. Y/N's calm, soft voice calmed him a little, and he felt he could go on for the moment.
"Good idea." He said, and prepared to speak.
She for her part also nodded.
"3, 2, 1…" She counted backwards.
Y/N spoke at the same time as Wriothesley, just as they had arranged, "I'm going to be leaving here for a while and stay in Poisson."
"Sorry-" His words were cut off.
Wriothesley looked at her with a look of disbelief. "What?" There was doubt in his tone. He couldn't believe what she was telling him. He was silent for a good while. He thought he could apologise as he should after having treated her like that, but this was a verbal beat down.
They both fell silent, Y/N's face was one of surprise, she honestly thought he was going to tell her to give them some time.
"Ah…" She blurted out.
Wriothesley was still in shock, it showed in his voice. It was as if his words were stuck in his gut, as if he didn't have the courage to get out what he felt. Seconds passed, minutes passed. He looked at her with a face of confusion and disbelief.
"Y/N? Are you… are you really going to leave?" he asked, as a last attempt to make a joke of his words.
"Uhm, yes."
"Ah! Don't get me wrong, it's just to keep collecting flowers and plants, plus to visit Navia, an old friend." She spoke, softly mentioning the words.
He was very surprised, which made it hard for him to believe what she was saying, but at last he did believe it. "Oh… I understand…" He paused.
"I was thinking… something different…" Saying this, he was silent for a moment. "You'll be gone at least… 1 or 2 days?" He asked the last question in a voice that was more of a plea, than a question.
"…I guess it will be about a few weeks." Y/N didn't know why, but she felt this was a kind of farewell.
Hearing the answer, Wriothesley got out of bed. He walked slowly towards Y/N. From the way she was standing at the moment, it was clear that she did not understand what was happening. He stood next to Y/N and stroked her face.
"Y/N…" He stared into her eyes. "I love you so much," he wished he could say. He placed one of his hands on her hands. "I hope you come back."
Y/N smiled. Her heart didn't feel as heavy as it had these past few months. "Of course I'll be back, Wriothesley." Her voice came out soothing. She hadn't wanted to leave at first, but thought perhaps she needed some fresh air to relax.
Wriothesley noted the change in her voice, and saw that her words were true. He was sure that when she came back, everything would be very different, and he looked forward to it.
"I love you, Y/N…"
He paused briefly, before saying the last word he wanted to say.
"Promise me, that you will come back here." He said, with a pleading voice in his tone of voice, and grabbed her shoulders.
"I promise." She said.
And so it happened, that night Wriothesley couldn't sleep well again, he felt a foreboding uneasiness haunting his mind. He tried to stay positive. The next morning, Y/N got up before Wriothesley and left, leaving some of his things on his bedside table and clothes in the wardrobe. She said goodbye to Sigewinne, asking her to take good care of her boyfriend's health, and without further ado, headed for Poisson.
...
As the days began to pass, at first, Y/N sent letters, specifically addressed to Wriothesley. However, these became fewer and fewer. She was doing well, distracted by exploring Fontaine, her stay was always Poisson.
A whole week passed, as well as two weeks, you could say the time flew by. Wriothesley sent letters to /YN, without receiving any reply. This made him increasingly uneasy.
...
On the other hand, Y/N was fine, at least a fortnight ago. There was a problem or two and she was seeing more unknown people there in Poisson. From the traveller to the Chief Justice Neuvillette. It was a bit suspicious, but she tried to ignore that as it was not her business.
...
Just that day she was on the lower floors, talking to citizens who had been very good to her. Navia was on the upper floors, along with Melus and Silver. The unthinkable happened, unnoticed, a large amount of water leaked from a tube, specifically water from the primordial sea.
The news spread throughout Fontaine, many lives lost. However, no one in the prison heard about it.
It was not many more days after that leak before the sea level rose on a massive scale, flooding the whole of Fontaine. The prophecy had been fulfilled. Or not?
The prophecy was indeed fulfilled, but no citizens were dissolved when they touched the water. Boats went out to rescue some people who were scattered at sea. People began to be rescued. Wriothesley was already on the surface, helping more drowning people in a kind of floating boat. Somehow hoping to see Y/N who had also been on the surface.
For a moment Wriothesley's mind stopped working, just minutes before the flood, she had learned that some of the people in Poisson had died due to the leaking water from the primogenial sea. There she was, Y/N, her Y/N. He refused to believe that she too had been one of the deceased, however, it was something that could make a lot of sense as there was no further response to his letters.
Some people in high places noticed that the water was receding, shouting with joy that they were still alive and claiming that the prophecy was not true among other things.
...
In all the tumult of people, there she was, looking confused and lost, her clothes completely wet. She honestly hadn't expected this, for having been in the fortress of meropid for so long, news of the prophecy didn't come often.
Wriothesley's heart felt like it was going to burst out of his chest, and once the floating boat landed in the sea, he took off. Literally running through the streets and meadows of Fontaine.
…Until he saw her, she was on her back being hugged by Navia, grateful that her dear friend was all right. Navia saw Wriothesley and just said to Y/N, "Someone wants to see you" and nothing more, leaving them alone.
Y/N turned her whole body around, only to have a surprised look on her face. Wriothesley wasted no time and hurried towards her with quick steps. When he was close he took her in his arms protectively and anxiously, burying his hands in her hair. He did not care to get his clothes wet with hers, that was the least of his concern.
Suffice it to say that Y/N was more than surprised by his action, placing her arms around his body.
...
The sun went down, Wriothesley and Y/N were sitting close to each other on the grass in silence, the fresh air around them, the situation was so pleasant.
"I missed you so much." He blurted out unconsciously.
Y/N's eyes quickly filled with tears. She turned to look at him, looking away from the starry sky.
"I missed you too." She spoke, so much had happened even close to death, that his words had a comforting effect on her.
"…Y/N, I-" He turned to look at her as well. His face was one of surprise, those little eyes he loved to admire so much were teary.
"My love…" Wriothesley continued speaking, after so much he could properly apologise for everything that had happened.
"Forgive me, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have spoken to you or treated you that way, don't go away again, don't leave my side again. I love your stories, I love your little ramblings you make as you tell me about your day to day life, so please…" He paused before continuing.
"Keep telling me about how you're always doing." He finished, as he hugged her again, so that this time she wouldn't leave his arms again.
"I love you, my Y/N." He whispered.
She didn't hesitate to return the embrace, murmuring things like "It's okay" and "I love you", her tears staining Wriothesley's shirt.
After a while like that, feeling each other's warmth, in the tender light of the moon and stars, Wriothesley took Y/N's face in his hands, placing a kiss on her forehead and wiping her tear-wet cheeks with his thumbs.
"And?…So?" He dared to speak, contemplating his girlfriend's face being cradled by his hands.
"Uhm? So what?" she asked, her voice calm and soft.
"How was your day?"
"Oh, well, you see…"

Today, the criminals that resided within the Fortress of Meropide had been incredibly unruly. As soon as he went to his office, practically collapsed onto his desk chair.
"What the hell… this is stupid." Wriothesley rubbed his temples, stressed and angry from the days work.
"Oh! Welcome back." A cheerful voice was heard, it was Y/N.
It was already somewhat late in the evening, or so the clocks indicated. Honestly Y/N hadn't noticed her boyfriend's stressed and somewhat irritable aura.
Wriothesley perked up at the sudden sound of Y/N's voice. Still rubbing his temples, he sighed softly and turned back to his office's entrance.
"Hi, honey. How are you?"
He glanced at her with a tired smile, a little unsure about whether Y/N would pick up on his mood or not. In any case, he needed to relax somehow.
She smiled, she wasn't paying too much attention to his stress pattern that Wriothesley had. She walked over to his desk where he was sitting, pacing cheerfully, ready to start telling him about her day and giving the odd interesting tidbit of information she was looking for. It was like a routine for her every time he came home late.
"Honey, today I went to get you some herbs that Sigewinne ordered for me and-"
Wriothesley sighed and leaned forward in his chair, watching her with an uninterested expression as she talked about some nonsense. He was tired of stress from work, but that didn't mean it was time for Y/N's chatter, though he didn't say any of this out loud.
He let out a tired chuckle and tilted his head to the side, glancing around his office and frowning slightly. Was he going to be stuck like this until he went to bed?
Y/N was already rambling on about the things she had asked for, how she went about finding them and so on. Until she fixed her gaze on Wriothesley, who was paying zero attention to what she was saying.
"…And then a giant dinosaur came and squashed half of Fontaine." She gave an incoherent piece of information to see if her boyfriend had any reaction.
Wriothesley lifted an eyebrow at her strange comment, glancing up at her. Did she really think that would work?... He sighed and shook his head, then pushed his chair away from his desk and stood up, stretching.
"Honey. It's not that I'm too lazy to talk to you, it's just that I'm very tired today."
This was clearly a white lie. It was a combination of work stress and Y/N's relentless chatter that was causing his irritability.
"Uhm." Y/N stopped talking for a moment.
"Mm, were you listening to what I was saying earlier?" She asked again, returning to her cheerful tone, willing to continue telling him about her day.
Wriothesley sighed and looked away, his annoyance growing. Was this really going to keep going? He turned to face Y/N, his voice sounding slightly curt.
"Look, honey, I'm very, very tired. Please don't go on talking for a while."
He couldn't quite hide the irritation in his words, but it was pretty understandable at this point. He just needed time to unwind from the terrible day at work.
"…" Y/N nodded, she tried to understand so she was silent for a few slight minutes.
The silence that remained in the room ate her alive, she didn't like silence.
After 15 minutes, Y/N spoke again, again with her cheerful tone, adding the odd thing about plants she had over collected.
"The lumidouce roses smell very, very good!, I asked Sigewinne if there was a way to keep them longer, and she said-"
Wriothesley shook his head, turning away from her again, his face grimacing slightly as he turned his back to Y/N and focused on the wall. He wasn't interested in roses and didn't want to hear anymore about them. Why couldn't she get the hint?...
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his desk as he closed his eyes tightly.
"Honey. No. Do you understand?" His words were simple and direct. He really needed quiet and rest right now.
She continued, trying to ease the silence. She had listened to his words but still hadn't got to the best part of her story, so she decided to continue.
"And the best part was that when I was about to finish picking flowers, they weren't the ones I was looking for-"
The silence became even more deafening for him. Wriothesley's eyes started to glaze over as he tried to block out the noise of her voice. Even so.... she just kept talking. Why would she do that when he'd already asked her to be quiet?
His eyes snapped open and he turned to Y/N, looking at her with piercing eyes. His expression was irritated and his tone was sharp as she spoke once again.
"Enough. Shut up."
"You're talking too much, I don't care if the ridiculous flowers smelled good or if you picked them wrong."
This was no way to speak to his girlfriend, but… she wasn't really giving him a choice right now.
"…" Y/N, for her part still had her mouth open to continue speaking, however upon hearing Wriothesley's words, she snapped it shut.
After analysing his words carefully, she realised that they were spoken in an irritated tone.
She stood still in her place, licked her lips before blurting out one last proposal, "…and if I give you a back rub?"
She insisted, not letting herself be swayed by her boyfriend's harsh irritated words. "He's just irritated, nothing more.", she thought.
Wriothesley froze as Y/N closed her mouth, but soon enough a look of annoyance flashed across his face when she made her proposal for a massage. He sighed and ran his hands through his hair, trying to find the right words to say.
"No. I don't want a back rub." It might've sounded a bit rude, but he just wasn't interested right now. His entire body was tense and he didn't want anyone touching him.
"Listen, Y/N. Can you just leave me alone for tonight?"
Oh.
"Uhm. It's okay." Her tone of voice dropped, though she managed to make them go unnoticed.
Y/N just tried to help her boyfriend, maybe she was just too intense.
Maybe.
She turned and walked out of the office with quiet steps.
Wriothesley glanced away from her, feeling a little guilty. He shouldn't have snapped at her for trying to help, but he just wasn't in the right mood.
But that was no justification for venting his irritation on her.
His entire body was sore and tense, and all he wanted to do was have a nice, hot drink and relax.
He sat back in his chair, frowning to himself, his expression a little troubled as he thought about how he'd behaved towards Y/N.
Y/N walked completely out of her boyfriend's office. She felt her eyes sting as she bit her lip slightly to stop it from trembling.
She was sure he didn't mean to talk to her and behave like that.
But she couldn't deny that it made her feel bad. The first thing that came to her mind when she was inside the fortress of meropid was to go to the infirmary, where Sigewinne was.
Wriothesley sat in his office for a while longer, his thoughts now focused on how he'd treated his girlfriend. It'd been pretty bad. He wasn't having the best day, so her attempt to relieve some of his stress should've been appreciated… yet, instead, he'd pushed her away and hurt her feelings.
He sighed, putting his head in his hands.
"I feel like a jerk…"
He couldn't help but feel bad. The stress from work was just so irritating - and to make matters worse, he was taking it out on Y/N…
On the other hand, Y/N was already in the infirmary with Sigewinne, who was patting her head lightly in an attempt to comfort her.
Because yes, she might have cried a little. Just maybe. Sigewinne offered her one of the beds in the infirmary and Y/N gladly accepted, mostly because Wriothesley had clearly told him he wanted to be alone. So she supposed that would also mean sleeping separately.
As night fell, Wriothesley decided to retire for the night, walking towards his bedroom with stiff steps. He was still in a bit of a sour mood, but he knew he had to make it up to Y/N somehow.
As he walked up the steps, a thought crossed his mind. Why was he letting his work stress and irritation get the better of him in this way? It wasn't like he was the one being worked like a mule.
He shook his head. It was time to try to sleep.
That night, Wriothesley could not fall asleep quickly. The bed felt empty, as it did before he met Y/N.
Y/N stretched and yawned. It was already dawn and Sigewinne had got her up. For a moment she had forgotten that she slept in one of the infirmary beds.
She ran her hands over her face, in an attempt to wake herself up more. Then she got up and thanked the little nurse for letting her sleep there and then left in the direction of her boyfriend's office. She was going to change her clothes.
Wriothesley slowly sat up in bed. His eyes opened after a while, blinking slowly and groaning as he let out a yawn. It wasn't a sound one would expect to come out of the mouth of someone who ruled an exile prison, but he was human after all. His tired eyes looked around the room, noticing the empty space next to him as he got up. Y/N hadn't returned.
"…" He wondered if she was still feeling hurt by what he'd said the night before. He felt a pang of guilt as he stretched his muscles and got out of bed.
Y/N entered Wriothesley's office with a key he had given her.
Not seeing her boyfriend at his desk, she assumed he was in his bedroom. She sighed and then went upstairs, her only purpose there was to change her clothes to do what she had to do as a daily routine.
Wriothesley contemplated the past night's events. He'd let his work stress and irritation get the better of him again, but it was still no excuse.
Then, he heard the key in the lock.
Wriothesley turned his head towards the door, watching as Y/N walked in.
"Good morning, sweetheart." He didn't seem upset by the last night, though he wasn't making any moves to leave his spot. He was waiting for her to talk.
She honestly expected and knew that her boyfriend would be awake, as he always got up early in the morning.
And there he was, beside the bed. Y/N sighed quietly before speaking, "Oh, good morning Wriothesley." She finished with a small smile and then turned away from the smile, towards the wardrobe to pick out something different to wear.
Wriothesley watched her as she turned away.
"Hey, listen…" He cleared his throat and looked towards her. "I'm sorry about last night, I really shouldn't have snapped at you like that. You were probably just trying to help." He felt a little guilty as he watched her change her clothes and not pay any attention to where he was.
"Um… are you mad at me?"
"…?"
"Oh, not at all." She spoke, as she continued to pick out a couple of garments.
Y/N hadn't turned to look at him, she was focused on the wardrobe.
He frowned as she continued to not pay attention to where he was.
"Do you mind looking at me when we talk, please?" He felt like she was just trying to ignore what he'd said earlier, or that she didn't even care enough to look at him.
"You know it was rude of me, right? I shouldn't have spoken to you in that way."
"Mhm." She affirmed with a sound. To then turn to look at him as he asked.
"I know. But it's okay." Y/N spoke.
He looked over at her again, his expression easing slightly. She'd acknowledged his comment at least. But was that enough…?
"You don't sound upset." He felt nervous, worried that she'd just brush it off. "Aren't you going to like… chew me out for it? Or at least be more cold towards me?"
The thought of her not doing anything in response to his rude behaviour was making him even more worried. He'd let his feelings of stress get the better of him too easily.
"Mm? No."
"I don't see the point." She spoke, as she pulled out a long dress along with a light cardigan, then placed them on top of the bed.
He tilted his head. That was her reaction? Of all the things he'd expected to see as a response to his rude behaviour, that certainly wasn't one of them.
"You haven't been angry enough with me." He sounded a bit agitated, as if he was waiting for her to say something… but she wasn't saying anything.
He raised an eyebrow, wondering why she was trying to put the past night's little incident behind.
"Are you not mad? Don't you want to… yell at me for being an ass?" It almost sounded like he wanted her to get mad at him.
Y/N sighed quietly before approaching her boyfriend.
"Don't say that, you're not an idiot, Wriothesley." She commented in a calm and somewhat flat voice.
"Because you're right", she thought inside herself.
As she placed one of her hands on his cheek stroking it with her thumb for a while. Then she let go and grabbed the clothes from the bed and headed to the bathroom to change. She didn't take long as she came out 5 minutes later.
"I'm not…?" He raised an eyebrow, looking at Y/N as she put her hand on his cheek and ran her thumb over it. She sounded kind of… robotic. She was trying to comfort him, so why did it feel insincere? Was he interpreting it wrong?
He leaned into her touch for a moment, then withdrew. If she said he wasn't an idiot, then he shouldn't have kept worrying - but something was just… off.
"Why are you wearing a smile like that?" He muttered bluntly, frowning again.
She ran the brush through her hair, combing it to make it decent.
"What are you talking about, sweetheart?" She asked as she went around the room to get her bag ready, putting in the odd thing, like a small notebook and pencils.
Wriothesley tilted his head, confused. Her behaviour seemed like it wasn't matching what she was saying. She seemed… calm. Too calm?
And her tone.
"Why are you speaking… so flatly?" He didn't like it. "And your expression, it… I don't know, it's like you're smiling but don't feel like smiling."
He thought about Y/N's words for a while.
"Are you still actually upset?" He wondered again.
"I told you I'm not upset, honey." She slipped on a pair of low shoes.
"And don't worry, I'm sure it's because I slept in the infirmary." She commented giving a soft smile. Kind of empty.
Y/N approached Wriothesley again to give him a short kiss on the lips and leave the room down the stairs.
He frowned at her, unsure. He still didn't believe her, but he had no reason to doubt the words. Still, her smile felt insincere, and her kiss felt strange. Why did she go back to being affectionate, even after he'd been so mean to her?
He followed her down the stairs.
The feeling that something was wrong was starting to settle in. Wriothesley wanted to say something, but he wasn't sure what.
"Uhm…"
He paused, uncertain before speaking "…Are you sure you're not upset, Y/N?"
"Before, yes, I felt bad. But now it's all right."
"Especially since you were right, Wriothesley." She thought but didn't say it.
"I'll be back soon. I'm going to continue collecting plants on the surface." She spoke quietly and softly. She put her bag on and left the office, on her way to the lift.
Wriothesley sighed, watching as she left.
"Of course…"
Maybe he was just overthinking it. She seemed fine, right?
Still, he wasn't satisfied with that. It all just… felt wrong. He felt his stomach twist in knots. Something was just off, and he just couldn't put his finger on it.
With nothing better to do, he leaned back in his chair and sat in silence, waiting for Y/N to return.
Several hours passed, the sun had set and the moon was now shining brightly, though only those who lived on the surface could see it.
Y/N returned to the fortress of meropide with a sweet smile, as she greeted the occasional person who lived there. Many things happened to her again worth telling. Before entering Wriosthesley's office, she passed by the infirmary, where she told Sigewinne with laughter and surprises about her journey on the surface, as well as giving her what she had asked for.
Then she went to her boyfriend's office and calmly entered.
Wriothesley was at his desk typing away at his computer, when he heard the door open and Y/N's footsteps outside. He turned towards her as she walked in, giving her a quick look over and noticing the sweet smile on her face.
"Hey, welcome back."
He wondered what she'd been up to. But to his surprise her expression wasn't like it'd been earlier - she didn't look upset or cold towards him any more. It was… almost like she'd forgotten about what he'd said to her before.
"Hi, honey." She spoke as she walked into the office, setting her bag down on one of the seats at his desk.
Wriothesley smiled at Y/N. Maybe he'd been wrong earlier - maybe this was good. She wasn't upset any more, right? It was only when he looked at her again that he noticed that although she seemed to have forgotten what he said, there was something off about her expression.
The smile that was on her face didn't reach her eyes. They were flat and expressionless, and her tone of voice felt strangely dry. He felt a chill run down his spine.
"How was your day?" He asked, looking at her as if she were the most interesting thing in the world, leaving his paperwork for a moment. Waiting for her to tell him, as before, about her travels and the surprises that had happened to her while searching for flowers and plants on the surface.
"Good." She replied, as she loosened the braid some melusines had made for her.
Nothing came, Wriothesley was waiting for a story but nothing came. Y/N's only response was "Good." and nothing else.
He stared at her, a little surprised. He hadn't expected that.
"Yeah?" he asked, in an effort to get her to go into detail as she always did. In her cheerful, sweet voice.
"Yeah."
"My day was good."
