Why I believe Mizi has survivor’s guilt rather than being manipulative

OH M YGID. Ok. Basically. Basic. BASICALLLYYYY. A lot happened but.

The comic seemingly framed Mizi as a “master manipulator” who played oblivious on purpose, and fans mostly took it at face value, but I think the entire comic is her subconscious trying to convince her she’s terrible for surviving when everyone else she’s ever loved did not. She lost Sua, then she lost Ivan, then she lost Till and Hyuna back to back when she thought she was going to be saving him.

It has her past self in her Anakt Garden uniform talking to her present self as she cries over Till’s body and cradles him asking her if she’s “proud of herself for fooling everyone,” and then the next panels make it seem like she has always been behaving that way — but I believe her survivor’s guilt is altering her memories to make her feel undeserving of the fact that she is the last one standing… Past Mizi/her subconscious tries to convince her that she hurt everyone around her before they died, likely to spare her from the trauma that comes w … you know… everyone you’ve loved ever dying. We know she bawled her eyes out when Sua died, and she was all by herself when she did that, so why would she keep up the charade when no one was around to see it? I doubt she was truly manipulating everyone — and if she was then it wasn’t because she was some giant evil omniscient being that was all-knowing. She just isn’t necessarily oblivious to everything, which brings me to:

She knew Till liked her. Bombshell. I think this proves her naïveté and the fact that she isn’t truly manipulative though because she asks him, “You know I love Sua. Is it really that hard to stop liking me?” That doesn’t seem like a question someone who is intentionally leading everyone around her on would ask

However!!! It is worth mentioning she’s still flawed and this is not a post meant to baby/woobify her by any means. We also get more Mizisua lore that proves they’re fucked up like every other relationship! I can rest. My girls. I can rest. I’VE BEEN SAYING THIS YOU GUYS.

Mizi lashes out at Sua in a moment of instability after another trainee in the garden says ssome pretty disgusting things to her and strikes her, because Sua was downplaying Mizi’s life by saying it can’t be that bad since her segyein doesn’t parade her around and objectify her the way Sua’s does. She’s obviously prone to things like that when she’s in a fragile emotional state, since she also beat the shit out of Luka in R5. I believe this ties into the idea that she isn’t very emotionally mature before she competes on stage; she definitely grew and has changed a lot currently but beforehand she was anything but.

We already know she was very sheltered by her segyein, Shine, and that Shine didn’t want Mizi to join Alien Stage at all. Mizi herself requested it and was sent to Anakt, where she met Sua — whose relationship with her own segyein is wildly different. She was exposed to things much earlier than Mizi was, which highlights their most prominent differences in their relationships. Mizi is proven in this to not have been as oblivious as she seemed to be from past media, but it’s undeniable she still was for this very reason.

Sua, also, seemingly used Mizi as a form of escapism via her innocence. Restating: she downplayed the things that happened to Mizi and almost infantilized her? At least to a degree. Sua had a very bad childhood where she was consistently treated like a little purse dog by Nigeh, along with multiple other girls, and so she likely feels she knows more than Mizi does about the real world that they both live in. I would say this is correct, but the extent that she takes it to isn’t healthy.

Side note: This isn’t villainizing Sua. She is my favourite. I am mentioning this as we cannot expect the people in Alien Stage to operate with the same emotional maturity and social comprehension that people like us possess. They are lower than dirt and they do not have any stellar examples to follow regarding functional relationships. The affection they receive from their segyein is conditional, based entirely on their performance and how easily they allow themselves to be reduced to something less than human. Till would be exemplary here; he rebels and so he is subjected to the worst handling.

When I talked to him about it my brother (@the-galactic-catt super based and red pilled guy go follow) also brought up the idea that it discusses the objectification of women both in general and within the fictional world of the Anakt Garden/alnst … AND I AGREE YES. The fact that another child (which may or may not be Luka but that’s iffy because he is much older than she is so why r they in the garden at the same time? is he a weird lookalike what is going on guys.) told her she can’t be friends with boys because she’s meant to reproduce with them? Gross. That is so gross. A lot of girls irl are treated with the same attitude both by their peers and their parents. Women aren’t safe from the patriarchy or its gender roles even if they’re in a world where humans are all owned like pets 💔

That’s all (I say concluding my essay. I love Mizi and Sua and alien stage if you could not tell.)

Maybe I’ll give Mizisua a full analysis post I have a lot to say. Maybe Ivantill but my opinion on them is controversial
