In honour of all the awesome work that @blue-wolfe and friends put into season 2, I wanted to host an event for our little community! In this post you’ll be able to find info about what this event is, the rules, and the artist and writer guidelines.

INFO/FAQ

1) What is a Bang?

A Bang is a fandom-centric event that pairs a writer and artist together. The writer creates a fic, and the artist makes art for said fic and they’re posted together! Big Bangs typically run for 5+ months and involve higher word counts meanwhile mini bangs usually run for 3 months or less.

2) How does it work?

First, the sign-up form goes out where you’re able to choose from the roles of Artist, Writer, Beta Reader, or Pinch Hitter. Writers will be given about a week to brainstorm an idea for their fic, and then complete a form that includes a summary of their fic. When those are completed, artists take a look at the summary form, and will choose their top picks of stories they’d like to create art for.

Teams of writers, artists, betas, and pinch hitters are then assembled and announced. Over the course of about two months writers and artists will communicate and decide on a piece(s) that the artist will complete. Beta readers assist the writers (more info below on that), and pinch hitters fill in for anyone that drops out.

At the end of the work period, teams will choose a date to post their fics/artwork during the week of August 18th-24th.

3) What is a Beta Reader/Pinch Hitter?

Beta readers assist the writers by offering feedback on their fics in the form of grammar help, assistance with story flow, and anything else the writer might want a second pair of eyes to look at. A pinch hitter is a person that fills in a role if someone else drops out of the event.

4) Can I be an artist and a writer?

For the sake of simplicity I’m going to say no, but you’re welcome to create more then one piece of art for a fic!

5) Do I need discord to participate in this?

Yes, the server will be where all the primary communication happens.

6) How long does this event run?

Sign-ups open June 17th and posting begins August 18th.

7) Do I need any prior experience with Bangs to participate?

Nope!

RULES

Fics of any rating will be allowed (Gen, Teen, Mature, Explicit) EXCEPT ones with explicit sexual content. The event runner (me) is a minor, and would prefer not to moderate explicitly sexual works.

GenAI works are not allowed for this event.

AU/Canon Divergent/Roleswap/etc works are all welcome! Get funky with it.

The minimum for writers will be 1k words, no word or chapter maximum.

Participants will be contacted on and invited to a Discord server to easily share announcements.

As CHNT contains horror elements, works with horror themes are allowed. The only content prohibited for this event is explicitly sexual works or works that promote/glorify topics like abuse, manipulation, stalking, etc.

If you’re unsure of what role you’d like to pick or would like to be involved but not as an artist or writer, this event would appreciate having beta readers and pinch hitters!

WRITER GUIDELINES

Sign-ups will close on July 1st.

The word minimum for fics will be 1k, there will be no word or chapter maximum.

There will be 2 formal check-ins: one around July 12th and one around August 7th. These are to gauge progress and get a feel for where everyone’s at, but you’re welcome to reach out outside of check-ins!

Fics with romantic pairings are welcome.

If your fic has multiple chapters, you’re welcome to stagger them or post them all at once as long as they are all posted eventually.

All fics will be part of an ao3 collection that will be released, but you’re welcome to post your fic on other sites.

There is a chance not everyone will receive a beta reader, if you don’t you’re welcome to ask if anyone would like to beta an extra story or have friends outside the event beta.

Writers can choose wether they embed their artist’s work in the fic or not, as long as the artist is credited somewhere in it.

Just to reiterate, explicitly sexual content is NOT allowed for this event. If you’ve got any questions about the kind of content you’d like to put in your fic, you’re encouraged to reach out and ask.

ARTIST GUIDELINES

Sign-ups will close on July 1st.

Artists will be required to make one completed art piece. Completed can look like whatever completion feels to you, as long as your writer is okay with it.

The final piece should be revealed alongside the fic being posted, but you’re welcome to post snippets/sneak peaks online.

Artists must have at least one social media to credit.

Art can be of any traditional or digital medium.

A summary claim form will be released, which is a Google form with the description of each of the writer’s story summaries and artists will choose their favourite summary (with backup options) to make art for.

The art creation period will be from July 24th to the week of August 18th-24th (about a month)
