Classical Choral Music, Conversation & Choir Concerts | Chorsymphonica
Tumblr media
ChorSymphonica is a project-based ensemble. We don’t meet on a regular basis for rehearsals but come together for brief, intense work periods (“projects”), which culminate in performances. Musicians self-select for projects, depending on their own availability. In this way, we can draw upon the range of qualified musicians throughout the region for our concerts. Unique Conversation Concerts by ChorSymphonica
Tumblr media
A Conversation Concert is a unique event, where soloists, chorus, and orchestra are employed to illustrate points of a pre-performance lecture. In twenty minutes, we explore the musical and historical context of the programmed work, in order to make the composer’s efforts more accessible to our modern ears, and more relevant to our contemporary way of life. For our Wheaton programs, we translate the lectures into Spanish, so that the message of the music reaches more people. Following the introduction, we perform the entire work, uninterrupted. To Know More visit us at Chorsymphonica

ChorSymphonica with Carolyn Forte, soprano: Bach, BWV 61, 5th Mvt
ChorSymphonica with Carolyn Forte, soprano, and Richard Allen Roe, conductor performing Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantata Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, BWV 61
An "Incarnations Motive" is a long, winding passage that starts in an upper range, in this case in the basso continuo, and winds its way downward, usually to the lowest range of the instruments. In this video we hear the Incarnation Motive in the beginning of the excerpt, coupled with the soprano, singing the text "O, wie selig werd' ich skin," Bach's spectacular way of coupling a meaningful text with background motivic writing that carries its own meaning.
Recorded in The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Bethesda, Maryland.
