I truly hate the word "unalive." There are so many other euphemisms that fictional Italian mobsters worked so hard to provide you with and you just ignore them.

Y'all ever think about the way video game bosses are designed to lose? How the bombastic soundtracks, the impressive displays of villainy, the teeth-rattling power of their attacks, are at once engineered not just to sell you on how unfathomably strong and vile they are, but also to make the player's inevitable victory all the sweeter?
Viewed this way, a boss battle is more like a choreographed dance - they call, you respond and counter-call. The trick is to learn the steps - once you know where to move, when to strike, when to defend and how to best allocate your resources, victory is not just achievable but actually almost impossible to avoid. You cannot help but recite the winning plays, over and again, because that is what the dance demands of you both - and is there not a savage sort of beauty in such a thing?
Is it any wonder then that we look back on these bosses so fondly, almost as if they were old friends? We danced together once, and oh what fun we had while doing it!
#blog navigation tag to be added#(i love this)#(it also remind me of a concept i love to play with)#(where dancing battles and s*x are all connected)#(battles and s*x are each a type of dance)#(s*x can be like a sweet battle)#(dancing can evoke s*x and we all know about the Horny Tension in Battles)#(some dancing can instead look like battles)#(also connected the idea that it isnt a war between light and dark but instead a dance)

Another idea that popped into my head but that I aaaabsolutely do not have the conviction to turn into an actual fic so I’m just kind of dumping, uh, 3k of some thoughts here:
Starker Pacific Rim AU!
Tony is a retired Jaeger pilot who has lost past copilots to either death or injury; his final mission prior to retiring involved his copilot Rhodey suffering a spinal cord injury that impacted his ability to walk and Tony getting a chest injury that necessitates the placement of an arc reactor like in canon
Blah blah handwavey science bullshit, Tony is forced to retire because the arc reactor isn’t compatible with the Jaeger technology somehow so he can’t pilot any longer (and is kind of Over It from the trauma of outliving multiple copilots regardless)
He gets out of the Jaeger program entirely and starts working on the Kaiju problem from other angles– other coastal defense systems, funding research into cures for Kaiju Blue toxicity, maybe some less-than-legal research into the Kaiju themselves to see if there’s a biological weakness to exploit, but like in PacRim canon it’s clear that humanity is losing the war nonetheless
And then Fury comes to recruit him back to Jaeger program, and Tony’s like, you know I can’t pilot anymore, what are you talking about. And Fury tells him that one of his engineers managed to modify Tony’s old Jaeger to be compatible with arc reactor technology.
Tony’s like, lol it’s cute that you think I’m heading back to PPDC HQ because some gearhead has a theory about Jaeger-arc reactor integration, but no. And Fury’s like, this kid built his own arc reactor; we’ve tested it; it works.
And Tony’s still outwardly resistant to going at all (and genuinely ambivalent about ultimately returning to piloting), but Fury knows he’s got ‘im because of course Tony has to see how someone made that work.
So Tony goes back to the Shatterdome with him, and Fury introduces him to the engineer that cracked it: 23-year-old Peter Parker.
#starker#(i love everything about this!)#(its funny because I've never been interested in pacific rim itself)#(but the idea of the drift and the AUs i find of my fave pairings?)#(hell yeah XD)

My coworker said he was having a bad day and I said 'it can't be that bad you haven't started howling like a sad dog yet' and he let out the saddest most pathetic little howl I've ever heard and I was like 'damn ok do you need to have a break?'

I wanted to keep the reblog before this post as it is, to let it stay focused on preventing burn out but especially how it is made for BLM activist, so that the BLM movement remained the one shown implicit support by the post (and my reblog).
I had thoughts, however, as it was a little funny to me, since I pretty much had to learn (or re-learn) all of this in relation to helping out wiht the Gaza situation. I actually faced burn-our the first time I tried to help, I had to step back, and almost completely "left the movement", but thankfully I knew myself enough to recognize what happened, and decide I wanted to continue.
And seeing this post reminded me of this, but also the general theme of caring, wanting to do something to help, but the very real issue anyone who cares face: by caring, and having empathy, we allow ourselves to feel involved, and so, we feel affected, and so, we have emotional stress. And as the post I linked show, if you stay in emotional stress without break, it leads to burn out. Which in turn, has a high risk of causing you to feel unable to "return" to what you were doing, rather than "simply taking a long break".
All of this is, I realize, why personally, I have issue doing anything despite caring a lot: I want to act for every injustice I see. I've often toyed with making blog(s) focused on helping others, be it resources, signal boosting, creating safe spaces, etc. I want to show I care when people speak of the injustice they face.
I care, so deeply that I find myself faced with the sheer weight of everything going on I wish I had the means to do anything about. Yet, I recognized the fact it feels like a weight is a surefire way to crumble and be unable to do anything at all. So I had to accept that no matter how "little" it feels, if I can do something, it's still better than nothing at all. That people understand, and if they don't, it's sad and I wish they did, but I have to focus my energy on what I can do rather than waste it arguing.
The harder thing to accept, and I feel needs to be recognized by anyone who cares and want to help, is that you might need to prioritize, and choose your causes. Do you do "little things" for every causes that matters to you, or do you focus on one/a few, which leaves the others with "less" of your attention/energy?
It's really hard, but that's where a part of the post I linked really spoke to me: we are not alone. To be honest, I feel like I mostly "settled" in a sad way that I had to prioritize and accept to do "little" where I can instead of not being able to do anything at all. I had thought about the fact I'm not literally carrying the weight of everything alone, that others do care and act. And yet, I don't know, it didn't fully register until now.
I am not alone, in caring, and in seeking to act. You are not alone. We are not alone. We are in this together. That's why each of us is able to find what they can do that truly works and can be sustained: we realize that, for everything we wish we could do, but cannot, there is always the space for others to do it themselves. We might never meet, nor speak to each other, nor even know, but the fact is, we all know that we aren't alone in caring.
For all we see violence and hate and all these horrible things, we remember all it takes is to look, to see people do care, and do what they can. We remember all the orgazations that have been formed to help. We remember that we aren't alone in caring.
So today, I sit here and feel like it hit me, really hit me: the act of caring is the first and most important step. What follows after, is to find what you can do, and learn to do it in a way you can sustain, so that you become a permanent member of the global community that cares and tries to change things for the better, no matter their differences. Because we find the one thing that connect us all in this: the act of caring. We realize we are never alone in caring, and most of all?
We are unstoppable in our care and dedication to make it a sustainable act, and it's why those that don't care, especially those that are the causes of injustices, want to create in-fighting. To make us feel guilty. To attack each other. To forget we're all connected by this care and all learning together to make it a sustainable force for positive change.
So don't forget, remember what connect us, and most of all: don't give up. There is no "not doing enough" or need to feel ashamed/guilty for any break you need, because caring and looking at what you can do, is already a lot. And if you are in a situation where you care, but it feels as if you cannot do anything, there are two things I can advise based on my own approach: letting others know you care, and creating safe spaces.
The last one is important, because it's what taking breaks to avoid burn out is all about: finding safe spaces where you can rest from whatever is causing you stress. I like to say that, if I realize I cannot fight, then I will dedicate myself to create the space the fighters need to rest and recover and return to the fight.
And in doing so, I "fight" in my own ways, too.
This is why I toy with the idea of having better "separation" between what each of my blog is about, to give a proper barrier between my safe spaces (safe for me and others), and the spaces to help in every way that works for me.
Another way to "fight" without truly fighting, so to speak, is to be an inspiration. It's the reason, for me, that in many different ways, you find the idea of being the change you want to see. Ask yourself this: if I imagine that who I am and how I act influence another person to be and do the same, what is the example I want to give? And imagine that this applies all the time, not just when you are in public, although you can think about the differences between public and private. Are you kind to yourself only public? Only in private? Are you even kind to yourself? What about respect? If these are things you want to see, then one way is to become these things, and let others be inspired. Refuse to engage in what you don't want to see anymore. But realize each person has their own way of fighting, of caring and learning what they can do with it.
Personally? My whole life is dedicated to making the world a better place. By choosing to treat myself the way I wish to be treated. By choosing to be what I want to see more and more, to not engage in what I don't want to spread. To create safe space. To observe, learn, think, and find ways to express it all, so that my words can help others. To directly act in the ways I can, like raising awareness, showing I care, sharing resources, and donating. But to forgive myself when I cannot, and/or need a break. And to remember I'm not alone, and let this be a comfort.
So remember: you aren't alone, and let's make things better, one step at a time, all together ♥

On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.
On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.
Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.

Hey there 🌍💙
I hope you're doing well. Today, I’m reaching out with a heartfelt request. My family is going through an incredibly difficult time, and I need your help to make our story heard.
🔄 A simple reblog of my pinned post can spread awareness.
💖 A small $5 donation could bring hope where it’s desperately needed.
@nasr-daher
Even the smallest act of kindness can create ripples of change. Your support means the world—thank you for standing with us! 🙏✨
Hello!
Here is the pinned post in question, for everyone else!
My heart goes to you and your family, I sadly cannot donate, but I can share! I wish you all the luck!
There seems to be an issue with the link given, at least for me, but the name for 586 seems to be yours, so while it does make me a bit hesitant as I like having a clear verification, I'm choosing to trust!
Edit: I realized GazaVetters is still active, so maybe you can check with them if your info and link can be updated so the name properly matches yours and the link work properly?

Hello, wonderful souls! 🤍🌍 I hope you're doing well. 🌿 Could you help me amplify my family's story and bring awareness to our struggle? 🙏🏻 💬 Please reblog my pinned post or consider donating just $5—your support could truly make a difference in saving lives amidst war and hardship. Your kindness and voice matter more than you know. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! 🤍🌿 🕊️ @mosabsdr | Every share counts. 💫
Hello!
To others: here is the pinned post i question.
To you: I generally only share campaigns I can find verification for, however, after reading your pinned post and looking through your blog, and finding one mentioning your number when you were verified by GazaVetters to see it's marked as "bot/spam" now, which actually match what you speak about in your pinned post (a misunderstanding, to summarize for everyone else), I've chosen to trust there is a real person in need and to share this campaign despite not having a clear confirmation/verification.
My heart goes to you and your family, I sadly aren't in a position to donate myself, but I can share and above all, show I care. I wish you all the luck getting what you need!
Note:
Mosab is marked as such due to what seems to be a misunderstanding, and I don't know if GazaVetters is still active or not, so I don't know if they will eventually correct this to let us know if it's true that there was a misunderstanding Edit: I checked and they are still active, so we'll see if anything change to clarify Mosab's situation! The fact I do find him on the list, however, makes me consider the authenticity of his story as valid.
I'll leave others to decide by themselves, as stated, I've chosen to trust Mosab's words and sincerity!

Important alert
Hey everyone, I wanted to share an important update about the Ihyaa’ initiative in Gaza. As some of you know, we’re working to create a stable, supportive space for university students in Ghazzah students who have been displaced, cut off from their universities, or trying to continue their education under incredibly difficult circumstances.
Our team on the ground, led by Mohammed Ayesh, has been doing everything they can to make this happen. After months of searching, they finally found a space that could serve as a classroom and study center. But this isn’t just about a room it’s about restoring a sense of structure, normalcy, and hope for students who are determined to keep going in the face of crisis
However, we haven’t been able to rent the space yet. The first payment is $2,000, and so far, we haven’t been able to raise that amount. Donations have slowed, but the need remains in fact, it’s growing. The room is ready, the students are ready, but we need your support to open the doors.
This isn’t a campaign built on sympathy. It’s built on partnership on the belief that education is a vital part of how Gaza survives and rebuilds. These students aren’t waiting for the war to end to start building. They’re doing it now page by page, class by class.
If you are looking for a meaningful way to support Gaza and be part of its reconstruction, this is one of the first steps you can take and here is also the donation link for this campaign and start helping

Hello!
I had a DM reaching out and the blog is deactivated now, but I can still see the old info of their blog in the DM and they had mentioned being vetted, I looked and the fundraiser I find on the number given match the link the DM say the blog used to have as blog description, so I'm sharing that link!
Chuffed // Gofundme
I don't know if they have a blog again, so I can't let them know I'm sharing, but at least I had replied back then to wish them luck so they know I had seen and I care (which is the best I can do in my current situation).

Hello!
Here are two fundraisers that I found out due to being mentioned, I've checked each of them to see if they had a verification, so I will be linking where you can help them, and a screenshot of finding their vetting!
I'm mentioning the blog too so they can see I've seen and shared, I sadly aren't in a situation where I can donate right now, but I can do this at least. This is so they know I've seen and shared, as I noticed I was mentioned multiple times for the same fundraiser, so there is no need to bring these to my attention again!
@helpteacheearej: fundraiser // ko-fi
@ingekasaanb: fundraiser
I wish you all the luck and my heart goes to you!
