We officially have made our earthen welcome mat to our new homestead. Land clearing wrapped up earlier this week, as we carved out our small area for the home, garden & outbuildings
Most importantly! We can finally make it on the property to park while we work away.
In the spirit of thanksgiving this week - I’m thankful for this point in our journey. I’m thankful I said ‘No’ to the standard operating procedures of life.
After months of waiting on a septic perk test, submitting plans, drawings, dimensions, side permits…. We have finally been approved to build our earthen home.
The new journey starts this weekend as we go to start mapping out perimeters and prepping to clear our land.
We visited our 10 acres of raw land. It was full of runt mesquites & cacti. Loamy sandy soil beneath our toes & just a sense of solitude.
We are excited to begin our journey of becoming desert homesteaders. It will no doubt be the hardest venture we’ve ever done, but we are up for the fight.
My heart is happy to see a renaissance of homesteading & self sufficiency. I fell in love with that lifestyle after both my husband & I lost our jobs in 2009. We never wanted to rely on a corporation or government to help us. So we started researching gardening, canning, preserving, permaculture.
Thank you for following us over these years. There’s more excitement ahead.
