Red Velvet Cookie Headcanons

(Will be using he/him for Red Velvet only for readability, but my thoughts on his pronouns are more like he/they/it! I use they/them for Dark Choco for the same reason!)

• He's left handed (rather than ambidextrous). The monster claw is for 'big' tasks like opening oven doors and lifting cake monsters overhead if they start fussing and fighting with each other, he does almost everything else with the other hand. • Has a lot of behaviors in common with Cake Monsters when he's not being watched by other cookies. Such as: - He repeats 'cake' over and over if he's bored or stuck on a thought. - Flexes his monster hand and taps it on things while talking. Metal makes a good sound, so he'll usually tap on his cake knife! It's not supposed to be a scary gesture (he definitely doesn't see it as one), but some cookies (Licorice) don't like it if they see him doing it.

- Bows and 'play sneezes' when trying to be friendly, because that's what the cake hounds do when they want to play!

• Red Velvet can understand Cake Monster growling and barking as speech, making him very useful for ordering them around and communicating what they know to allies!

• He looks pretty intimidating swinging that cake knife around, but he actually has no formal training with it at all. Baaasically, he's entirely self-taught and winging it! He also refuses to ask Dark Choco (the literal trained knight) for pointers because it'd be an insult to his pride at this point.

- He also reeeally just generally dislikes Dark Choco and avoids them when their paths cross at work. He finds them pretentious in a similar way to how Pomegranate does ("Dark Choco needs to get over themself, they're not any better than anyone else on the dark side"), and vaguely knows that the Dark Cacao Kingdom's rite of passage into adulthood was murdering a wolf, which he just plain finds distasteful.

• Doesn't know what a mom is but basically sees Dark Enchantress as one? He has a lot of respect for her and was kind of hurt when Dark Enchantress went away, then only started talking to him through Pomegranate.

• Red Velvet is the only cookie allowed to call Choco Werehound Brute by his given name without it being a massive source of embarrassment for the poor hound! Licorice doesn't understand (or doesn't care) that this exception is made because Red Velvet is family, not just Schwarzwälder's commander.

• He covers up sincere pain with sarcastic jabs, fake indifference, and insults. If you hurt his feelings, he's going to roll his eyes and say something pithy about it so he can pretend it didn't happen.

• That black right eye is an enhancement Dark Enchantress gave him after it was injured in an accident. She was surprisingly gracious with sharing her magic to heal it, the same as when she replaced his arm.

- The new eye is attuned to the darkness (literally), and sees fine in the dark no matter how little light there is (it just can't see in color).
