Cobra Kai Fanfiction Awards 2024 - Nominations, Day 1

Friends, Senseis, karate people: here is the first batch of nominations for the 6th Annual Cobra Kai Fanfiction Awards!

You can nominate any Karate Kid or Cobra Kai stories posted or updated in 2023 on Archive of Our Own. 

All eligible stories must be:

Started, updated or finished during 2023.

Have a word count of 15k or more (this requirement is for WIPs only, complete stories can be shorter).

Posted on the Ao3 site under the tags “Cobra Kai (Web Series)” and/or “Karate Kid (Movies)” (You do not need to have an Ao3 account to nominate a story.)

There are 45 awards categories this year, so the polls will be posted over several days.  You can nominate up to three stories per category, but you don't have to nominate in all categories!  Skip through the different sections of the poll to get to the one(s) you want.  Please make sure to include both the fic title and the Ao3 username of the author, as well as any other details specified for each category.

Polls will be open until June 3rd at 8pm Central Time.

Once we have all the nominations, the results will be tallied, and the stories with the top noms will go through voting to decide the winners of the most prestigious (and, so far, the only) fanfiction awards in the Cobra Kai fandom.  The awards ceremony will take place in our Discord Server, on a date that we will announce soon.

AU where Tory and Aisha get together in season 2?

1. Sam is fine with it, okay?

2. So fine. Super fine. So so fine. She is just totally totally fine so maybe stop asking, Robby?!

3. In this version Tory is encouraged to go after Aisha by Miguel whom wants the best for his fellow “Heart Broken by Sam Larusso” club mate and can sense how much she likes Tory and wants to date her.

4. Aisha’s parents didn’t grow up like Amanda but they’re still just as much protective parents so after Tory starts coming over more and getting closer to them they starts filling in the roles Amanda did for Tory in S4 and offering support (except with the abundance of bad blood maybe Tory is less reluctant to accept it).

5. School fight ceases to exist because Torisha live out their days being the happiest sapphics in the whole wide valley 💕.

Heels have been Amanda's friend since university. She's always been tall, and the heels lend her that extra power that make people sit up and really pay attention.

So it's confusing that around Carmen, she wants them off. Especially because Carmen is taller than her; if anything, she should want to keep them on, swan around and preen at the way Carmen might look up at her.

Instead, all she thinks about is stepping close and having to tilt her head up to meet Carmen's gaze. Maybe even slouching, so that Carmen could gather her up that much more easily.

I originally started writing this for the summer event with the prompt "campfire" and I did half of it and then got stuck, got distracted with other wips, etc.

My own interpretation of this au maybe has /too/ much femininity, and I really would like to tell to all of you that it is self exploration as much as it is an exploration of the characters themselves. I see so much of myself being poured into them because of my late coming out, of how much I feel I lost in my own blindness to my queerness and how "feminine" I presented in my own teenage years.

So, yeah, this is why I don't put a CW for "cis-swap", since I think there's much to explore, and I very much could see a reading of both a trans Jenny or trans Danielle. But as a cisgender woman, I do not feel prepared to explore too deep, specially in physical explorations because my own issues with my body in relationship w my gender and my queerness are vastly different. I really think my Jenny and Danielle come from myself as much as they come from Johnny and Daniel.

Maybe I spoke too much, but it is something that I did want to put out there.

Rubbing my gay little hands together envisioning Sam and Tory “reuniting” post (Sam’s) near-death experience/dark night of the soul (and new wavy joan of arc haircut) in the Arthuriana AU bc.

“You look like shit,” Tory told her, still turned away.

Sam sighed, shifting on her worn feet. “Yeah, I know.”

She watched as Tory continued picking at the admittedly sparse fallen leaves and pine cones, pulling at a few dead twigs left behind by winter.

“The hair isn’t too bad,” Tory said after a moment. Sam blinked. Then— “Were you trying to disguise yourself?”

“Yes,” Sam said.

Tory made a considering sound, standing with a now half-full satchel. “Wouldn’t have worked, if you ask me. You’re too short to pass for a man.” Sam huffed, but Tory paid her little mind, busy taking count of her findings. After a moment, she hummed. “Too pretty, too.”

Sam had opened her mouth to retort at Tory’s former statement, but found herself closing it again in surprise. Before she could recover, Tory was brushing past her, onto another thatch of trees. Where in the past this sort of move had been rough, shoving Sam aside with her usual look of contempt, this was slower. Perhaps not gentle, as she seemed to angle herself into Sam’s space in a way that stole all her air; but there was no harshness in it, just the soft brushing of the fabric of her dress against Sam’s now threadbare cape. The sound seemed to trail after her as she passed.

“Seems like someone has a crush on you.” Moon chuckles.

Yasmine looks up from her compact mirror, her sharp blue eyes meeting Moon’s gaze with an inquisitive intensity that would’ve made anyone flinch.

But not Moon. A perfectly shaped brow arches elegantly, silently posing a question.

Moon gave a subtle jerk of her chin in response.

Yasmine casts a brief glance over her shoulder, her golden beach waves of hair flowing gracefully with her movement.

She gives the boy a fleeting second of her attention before turning back to Moon, rolling her eyes and letting out a scoff. "In his pathetic dreams."

“How about mine?”

"Hmm." Yasmine murmurs, snapping the compact mirror shut with a sharp click that seemed to echo loudly in Moon's ears. She turns fully towards Moon, her gaze unwavering and her focus now entirely on the conversation between them.

A cheshire grin spreads across Yasmine's red lips, her blue eyes sparkling with mischief as she leans in closer. "That depends..." She began, her voice trailing off teasingly.

"On what?" Moon chuckled softly, curiosity piqued.

“Did you order my drink with extra cherries?”

“Yes.” Moon nods, smiling. “Even made sure they were fresh and organic.”

"Ah," Yasmine's grin widened, her eyes twinkling with delight. "You know me so well."

Moon's smile deepened as she nodded, pleased to have made Yasmine smile. "Always." she replied warmly.
