Was there something you swore to yourself you would never do as a dad, but did anyway?

“Fuck, yeah. Always told myself I wouldn’t use the ‘When I was your age..’ sentence on my kids. Yet, it’s become one of my favorite things to say and I can’t stop.”

What was your worst encounter with the police?

“I have no idea how you even get the thought I ever had an encounter with the police. Fine, two friends of mine thought it was a funny idea to rob a store. They didn’t involve me in their plans, knowing damn well I would’ve said no. I drove the car and we got caught.”

“ To be entirely fair to you, it’s their own fault for celebrating their ‘big day’ in Vegas. Isn’t the whole point of Vegas to have drunk American dudes providing a little bit of entertainment? Maybe you should’ve kept your hands off the cake, though. You, know, I’ve still never actually been to Vegas – Mike always said we’d go eventually. If it ever happens, you should come. Redeem yourself. And show me how to work the slot machines, something tells me you’d have more of a knack for working them than Mike. ”

“I’m sure I’ve left an impression. Going for the cake really wasn’t the best choice, but I really, genuinely thought it was the buffet. Vegas is great. I was there because Ronnie, a friend of mine, celebrated his 21st birthday and he ended up paying for the hotel rooms for everyone. It was a grand time, although looking back I have to admit I don’t remember much of it. Vegas with you? I’d definitely wouldn’t say no that. I’m more of a poker kind of guy, but I’m not bad on the slot machines either. So, hey. I’m in.”

“ Oh, thanks, honey – no, no, white is perfect, thanks. No, that’s alright, you go on ahead, Clay was telling a story just now. Alright, catch you later! [..] Sorry about that. That’s actually unbelievable.. how did you get away with that?! ”

“The bride took it with a sense of humour but the groom wasn’t too happy about some American dude crashing their big day. You can imagine I was too  drunk for my own good, but I remember making a run for it at one point when the guy expressed what he’s going to do to me next. I’m still sometimes scared he’ll suddenly show up to keep his promises.”

-- Clay’s got his heart on the right spot. He’s easy-going, confident but modest, warm. Being around Clay makes other people feel welcome; his open-minded and humerous demeanour drawing people in. His humour doesn’t always sit well with everyone. He stays true to himself himself however and doesn’t mind letting out his straightforward, sarcastic and dark humour around people he’s only known for a few hours. Straightforward would be a very good word to describe Clay not only when it comes to his humour, but with all things in life. He doesn’t beat around the bush, often catching people off guard with his honesty. It either works, or it doesn’t but at least he tries. Why make things harder when you can easily communicate them? Clay has never really had a serious relationship before, although there were a few flings and almost-girlfriends that somehow always didn’t end up working out for him. He’d be down to meet a nice girl that would sweep him off his feet, someone he could see himself waking up to every morning and gets his mind off his best friend’s girl. Vivian Lancaster wormed her way in Clay’s heart, slowly but surely. Having her around always ends up with Clay not being able to take his eyes off her, his body gravitating towards hers. He feels there’s a connection that goes beyond physical attraction. He knows Michael is not right for her, that Vivian is not right for him but what he doesn’t know is how much longer he can refrain himself from persuing it. --

“They’re all equally annoying.”

Do you think about sex with people who are not your wife? Without serious intentions of infidelity, do you flirt with other people for fun/validation?

“Most likely subconsciously crossed my mind as those things happen. I don’t flirt with other people - this charm is reserved for my wife only. If you flirt with other people because you want validation, you should talk. That’s usually the first step towards a break up, buddy. ”
