I have a question about alters and sources.

This is due to substitute belief, as ive been reading through your blog and have a possible theory.

We have OCD, our OCD makes us believe that we are a terrible person. We have a few introjects whom are sourced from real life people who are not known to us personally but whom we know of. They're in the public eye. These people are the type of people we fear being or becoming, and so I'm wondering if they formed because of that held belief/fear that we are this terrible person? We know we aren't deep down, but the belief was held by us for years and we are currently only on medication for our OCD, no therapy.

Definitely sounds plausible to me.

It's extremely common for introjects to form based on fear and shame; it seems counterintuitive for brains to latch on to things they theoretically find repulsive (even though they totally do), but especially where you have/had that fear of being like those people, it makes perfect sense to me for an introject to form as if to claim "Ha! No, you really are secretly like those people, see?!"

11. 👗 What's an outfit or piece of clothing you have that's just for one alter?

We mentioned several [before] but I thought of a couple more that you probably recognize :>

Jynx has his leather jacket (which also gets used by Tristan, Astrid, and Diego on occasion.) Astrid has her long sleeved mesh top and fishnet tights. One of our teal dresses (the long sleeved one) belongs to Razael.

20. 🔮What's something in your history that foreshadowed you being a system? (I.e. Funnier As A System style things)

So a big aspect of our system is the sharp divide between Day parts (functional, socially capable, emotionally reserved) and Night parts (younger, emotional, volatile), right? It's always been that way to some extent.

When we were in grade school, we had quite a few sleepovers with friends who were amazed at how we "turned into a completely different person" at night. They were especially amused by Rei, a young part who apparently had a habit of getting very hyper and "laughing like an insane chipmunk."

Mortifying to the daytime parts the next day who had very little memory of the night before...but makes so much sense for us in hindsight.

30. 💀What's a dumb thing that's happened with/to your system?

Today I changed my outfit 5 times before leaving the house because nobody was strongly Around but everything felt "wrong" and "not me." Many such cases. It feels dumb every time.

for the ask game, 29, 11, 8? we also wanna say we just went scrolling and saw ur post abt trying things to let ur partner know whos out/around. the app simply plural is extremely helpful for this, we find it extremely hard to state whos out for stigma and nonverbal reasons as well, so having an app just pop a notif onto someones screen is a lifesaver. for us and our singlet partner, as well as system friends, SP has been an a truly wonderful tool for signalling, as well as the many other features it provides!

29.📢 Do any of your alters have accents/speak differently?

Sighs deeply. Yeah, for sure they speak differently, especially now that we have people IRL who we're comfortable not masking around (husband, best friend, therapist.)

Just off the top of my head...the guys' voices definitely go deeper, Astrid speaks with a catty intonation similar to Azula from A:TLA, the Rues (the ones who can speak, anyway) are quieter/raspier, Abel sounds like she's trying to talk despite a knife being at her throat. Razael sounds like she's ready for a nap, Reki sounds small and chirpy, Kestrel is timid and breathy, Jynx sounds like a sarcastic asshole who never learned you can unclench your jaw....you get the idea.

11. 👗 What's an outfit or piece of clothing you have that's just for one alter?

Jynx has various pieces of jewelry that are specifically His. A silver ring with many black eyes, a silver ring with 3 spikes, and steel chain that he wraps around his wrist and hand as a sort of bracelet.

Razael has a labradorite stone necklace, Astrid has an amethyst one, Reki has one that's a resin heart that looks like a black cat walking in front of a blue aurora.

Abel has a long black coat, Diego has a rainbow tank top and dress, Kestrel has a striped zip-up hoodie...

....that's all I can think of for now, but I'm pretty sure there are others.

8. 🧜 Share a fun fact about nonhuman alters!

I'm absolutely blanking on an answer for this. Not sure if I'm being blocked from it inside or what, but I'm not gonna push that. Sorry!

👏 Ehhhhhh (I'm really awful at feeling pride but I am trying to get better at it) we've been making a lot of effort lately to be more Open and Honest about our system things with both our therapist and husband, and both have been going well but it's been a hell of a steep plunge that took a lot of guts from the parts who stepped forward to Be Known. So I'm proud of us for that.

🧠 I have to run decisions and impulses through So Many Layers of checking in, internally. We also have supremely delayed emotional reactions to things, which can be Frustrating for everyone involved to deal with, because we'll be fine fine fine fine fine with something for DAYS (or weeks, months, etc) until parts switch up and then suddenly it's apparently seen as catastrophic.

🙅 Can't think of anything at the moment; we've kept our distance from the DID community for a hot minute so we don't really know what's "common" for others anymore.

"Punishment works!!!" We're drowning in three to four generations of people so pants-shittingly terrified of ever being wrong that half of everyone has constructed a worldview wherein they never even consider the possibility that they could be wrong and the other half behaves like one wrong move will make anything or anyone explode violently into a million irreperable pieces. 5. 👏 What's something you're proud of that your system was a major part of recently?

Hmmmm we got a pretty significant raise at work a couple weeks back, and functioning at work is like a big system-wide deal, both from the work-parts themselves as well as the home-parts for taking care of us outside of work. So, good job team us

9. 🙅 What's something you commonly see in other systems that doesn't apply to you?

We don't have straight-up introjects of fictional characters. Some of us have like, strong inspiration from characters, but (to my knowledge) we've never had someone show up who was just like "Hi, I'm [character] from [media.]"

23. 📬 How do you communicate with your alters?

Hooo boy so many ways now. It's been an uphill battle trying to figure out what works for us, but I think we've finally reached a pretty good place communication-wise.

Journaling - We keep a physical journal with a lock, where *anyone* is explicitly invited to write *anything* they think or feel throughout the day. The journal comes with us almost everywhere.

Lighthouse - (shoutout to @lighthouse-app ) Probably our most tried-and-true method of communication. Oldschool forum-style site set up for creating profiles for and interacting between system members.

Innerworld writing - Stream of consciousness creative writing we do to let parts interact with eachother. Also a very reliable (and raw) way to communicate.

Parts art - Drawings of the system or inner world always gets some kind of communication happening, for better or worse

Calendar - All our important dates and events to remember *must* get immediately put into the calendar app on our phone. It's a firm rule for us so nothing gets forgotten. As soon as a date is set, into the calendar it goes, absolutely no "I'll remember to add it later."

I think those are the biggest ones? Although I feel like I'm forgetting something......
