this is a new thing me and my dear friend @waywardwerewolf are trying!! essentially, we just wanted to stick everything in one place and start actively working together during in person events. on top of that- any collaboration between us'll go here too. we still plan on doing our own art but putting our goods under one banner will make life significantly more bearable on those tough weekend events!! so if any of this interests you, definitely check us out here on tumblr or over on instagram!! thanks folks :-)
Hey folks!

Welcome to Witch and Wulfe; an amalgamation of the works of Clicks @clicksarts (me) and Stray Saint @waywardwerewolf. After almost ten years tabling seperately at cons side-by-side, we figured we'd try to frankenstein together a collaboration! So, here we'll be sharing our latest goods, behind the scenes stuff and other fun things planned for the future. if we can motivate ourselves to think that far in advance :-)

quick post because its 3:30am here and im dead BUT ive had some hits and misses today.
in a desperate attempt to use up the last of my copper, i made some tiny ability score slab pendants of my d&d main, Jest. these were her scores at the end of our main six years campaign; they’re very dear to me.
i think i should have spent MUCH more time on the carving but i was definitely over it at this point.

i also was trying to cook up a magikarp pendant but the first one broke in so many places before firing and the other snapped after firing. i believe the reason for this was that the design was just beyond what my size blow torch could achieve with the copper clay.

i was more sad about it earlier but these things are going to happen, and i still succeeded with my other project, so a win’s a win!!
i have a couple of little copper discs i plan on carving for my mum, but this practically concludes my experiment with copper clay! and boy, im NOT going back anytime soon. :•)

what's your setup like for making your silver bits? the blowtorch thing looks scary! I looked up copper clay after seeing your froggy and it scared me a little with the talk of needing to quench it immediately after firing
i’m definitely still a novice to art clay copper/silver but i’m also a very paranoid person by nature, so i’ve tried my best to read up on the safest methods to practice this. it’s definitely far more accessible than i thought though! :•)
(continued under the cut, this turned out to be a long one :•D )
the blowtorch terrified me at first BUT after my first firing, i realised that it’s genuinely not that bad! obviously you’re dealing with a very hot flame and should be cautious about that, but otherwise you’re just standing there making sure you’re holding it steady at the correct glow colour until you quench it.
i fire by my sink with the window open for air circulation but i’ve not noticed much odour at all aside from the initial burning. they say that you should have a mask or respirator (which i have absolutely neglected so far but intend to pick up) but that’s a solid rule of thumb for any craft like this anyway. :•)
quenching is just the act of immediately putting your piece in some cold water. for copper, they want you to do this immediately because it oxidises after you remove the flame which will effect the colour. to do that, i just tip my piece into a small bowl from the firing block and that seems to do the job.
from what i’ve read and understand with fine silver- you let it cool a little after firing and then quench it, although i’ve seen that some people don’t even quench their fine silver.
the blowtorch i use is a simple kitchen torch intended for toasting crème brûlée’s and general food recipes. mine uses butane gas which you can get from most supermarkets/little shops.
i will say though, after my trial with both metals- i would recommend the pure silver at first since it’s MUCH easier to fire requiring less flame time and at a lower heat. unfortunately it IS like five times the price of copper, but copper has been such a pain, i don’t plan on getting any more after my current batch.
so YEAH! again, i’m by no means an expert and you should continue to search up folks who’ve been doing this longer than me BUT i hope this helped alleviate some fears surrounding firing/quenching!!

copper!!
in an effort to check out my other options, i read that you could fire art clay copper with a blow torch so, i’ve been trying to figure it out. right off the bat though? copper is a pain compared to my darling silver.

my first attempts were very naff, i made a couple clown discs and one bubbled on the surface, and one just crumbled after firing. i believe the reason for perhaps both of these issues was i was impatient and didn’t allow the copper clay to dry as much as it should have (copper clay supposedly retains much more moisture for longer).
i made some more quick clown discs and let them dry a day and a half and my results significantly improved :•)

today though? i wanted to experiment with a quick idea on the back of the design for bails (the thing that connects a pendant to the chain), so i made a little froggie!!!
he came out so good, i still find this process surreal- like. it was clay. and now it is metal. its so indulgent for me and this entire learning curve has been so fun so far!!
