STAY
She was running...where exactly, she couldn't fathom, couldn't bring herself to care about the fact that she, being defenseless could potentially get murdered in cold blood, not when she felt that sensation of impending doom suffocating her, the terror running deep in her veins, her heart pounding.
Lois Lane was not one to shy away from danger. It was what excited her, chaos was what she was used to thriving on, it was what defined her life- what made it worth living for. But this was different - of course it was - she could feel it..the last thread of hope -slipping away from her clutch, the flashing lights from the battlefield nearly blinding her. She found her breath coming in pants, her eyes tearing up, limbs shaking..her entire world crumbling down into pieces, right in front of her eyes- and yet, she was totally and utterly helpless to do anything about it. Her frantic eyes had found the read and blue mass lying in the corner, right next to that terrifying beast- most disturbingly, motionless.
" Clark!"
Lois was so horror struck for a moment that she could only stay rooted to the spot, praying that her bloody mind was playing stupid tricks one her. This couldn't be real. She wouldn't allow it...
She finally willed enough strength to move to him, dizzy and feverish, for the first time-petrified of the unknown, of what awaited her. She managed to turn him around onto her lap, shaking hands immediately finding the face she loved so much. His skin was so frigid, and clammy. He had never felt so cold before. The soundless scream erupted from her throat of it's own accord...
Like a bucket of ice-cold water had been splashed on her, Lois jerked awake. She felt her forehead, feeling sick, her heart pounding loudly against her ribcage. She instinctively reached out next to her, and was further anguished on discovering the cold side of the bed. Slowly, she took in the familiar surroundings- the comfy bed with the silk comforter she was tangled in, the walls coated in warm beige illuminated from the table lamp, the cozy decor, the tall mahogany cupboard and the frigid bay windows against which snow was falling, heavily.
No. She kept telling herself. It was just the usual nightmare- her worst memory, in fact- the one which took pleasure in constantly haunting her..and yet- it had been so real, she could feel her throat constricting, her chest tightening. Her restless mind began conjuring up such bone-chilling imagery she couldn't manage to shut out.
She ran her hands through her hair, trying to pull herself together somehow and failing miserably. He would be here, he had to be here, or was he?
Tired of her internal debate, she decided to put an end to the dilemma; she was even more frustrated to find out the amount of effort it took to sit upright against the headboard, and that was when she was suddenly alerted to the wound on her left shoulder, the pain so tangible she was forced to recollect the unpleasant scenario she had found herself in before the bullet had brushed past her skin.
As if on cue, the door opened- and there stood Clark- in his casual flannel, looking quite worn out with dark circles quite visible under his eyes- he never got dark circles, he was Superman for God's sake- but alive. Miraculously, right in front of her. Unharmed.
The fatigue weakening her body, and her wobbling legs which threatened to give way beneath her, forgotten- all of a sudden, she collapsed straight into him, wrapping her petite frame against his muscular torso, arms wrapping around him as tight as she could muster.
"Lois!" He breathed into her hair.
She felt his steady heartbeat, as she buried herself deeper into him, letting his scent wrap around her- healing her. She once again reminded herself of how much her life revolved around him, and him alone.
"Honey.." he gently peeled back away from her, concern pooling in his mesmerizing blues, as he took in the sight of her, hand trailing down her cheek.
"Hey.." she managed weakly, instinctively melting into his touch.
"Is everything..."
"I'm fine.." she assured him, and herself, arms circling his neck, leaning her forehead agaist his, "Just a bad dream.."
He held her close, kissing her forehead as he murmured, "You scared the hell out of me.."
She knew they had to talk it through. She sensed apprehension, fear and worry- all in that one simple sentence, and felt the guilt creeping up her veins, already. But not right now. It had to wait.
"Clark..."
"I know." He whispered, delicately stroking an arm down her back, perfectly aware of her need for comfort.
"Stay."
"I'm not going anywhere, Lo!"

GUILTY AS CHARGED
Lois was propped up onto the countertop, as she pulled him by his collar. Their lips met urgently. She was playing wicked, her tongue sweeping teasingly over his lip as her fingers pulled at his locks and clawed at his back.
"You're- aware, that we are at work right?" Clark warned, but Lois wasn't listening anymore- it was quite reasonable considering the fact that she was preoccupied fumbling with the top button of his shirt
"Hm.." she murmured seductively against the skin of his neck. "I didn't see you complaining yesterday, Kent!"
Clark momentarily closed his eyes as the images of her joining him in the shower, clad in that flimsy towel, fogged his brain.
"Lois-" he nearly hissed out as she nipped on his earlobe.
"Yes?" she pulled back to stare at his face, arms wrapped around his neck, her leg sliding over his own and looking positively smug at catching him off guard.
He reached out to adjust a strand of loose hair behind her ear. Her eyes fluttered close as he leaned in close,. "You are not distracting me." he whispered
"Too late, babe." she shifted closer, her lips a hair's breadth away from his.
Clark decided some battles were worth losing.

GOSSIP
'Lois?'
'Yeah?' she asked busy stooping over piles of files searching for her document.
'Are you even listening to me?'
'I will, Cat.' she remarked sparing her an annoyed glance. ' When you have something interesting to tell me.'
'I can't believe you haven't noticed how he's all heart eyes at you?'
'Smallville?' she laughed off the comment and turned to face her, having spotted what she wanted. 'Isn't it about time you left the poor guy alone?'
Cat sat down on one of the chairs, exasperated.
'For a triple Pulitzer winning journalist, Lois- this is pretty disappointing.'
Lois rolled her eyes.
'I mean...it's so goddamn obvious it's written all over his face!'
' If you're done with the lecture, Cat-' she said motioning at the clock '- I've got a deadline to meet.'
__________________________________________
' What's so funny, Olsen?'
'Lois, he has a serious crush on you!'
She looked out the transparent glass door of her office to see Clark Kent, who had his eyes fixed on the computer screen.
'You've got to be kidding me right now!' she mumbled and resumed flipping through the record.
' What? Lois....'
'Where's the photo, Jimmy?'
------------------------------------------------------
'When do you guys plan to drop this?' she asked sipping her drink. They were out for the office party, and Lombard as usual had lost out to her for the drinking game, and had nearly passed out after his eighth glass. Which was- technically his fault. He should've forseen the consequences when he took up the challenge with an army brat, after all.
Jimmy smiled. 'I just can't get my head around the fact that you're this blind!'
'Exactly.' Cat said
'You said something, Olsen?'
'Nope.'
'Go thank your stars that I'm heady...' began Lois rubbing her temple.
'Drunk?' supplied Jimmy tentatively.
'Heady, Jimmy. H-E-A-D-Y!' she corrected him. 'Or you wouldn't have hoped to see tomorrow.'
'Come on, Lois- We have an office bet going on...' chirped up Cat.
' What the HELL!' she slapped her hand on the table positively startling the duo.
' Yeah-' Jimmy quickly covered up. ' On when he'll break his next coffee mug!'
They turned their heads at the sound of a commotion. Clark Kent stood at the bar, ruefully apologizing to the bartender for spilling out soda all over.
Lois smiled as the others broke out into peals of laughter.
-------------------------------------------------------
Lois hated her phone.
And loathed it whenever it decided to annoyingly break into her peaceful slumber.
'Urgh!' she twisted and turned, trying to bury herself deeper into the warmth that enveloped her. Nothing worked. Muttering a string of expletives, she reached for the wretched device and brought it to her left ear, her right one cradled comfortably on the broad expanse of toned, muscular chest of a certain Kryptonian.
' Hello?' As she recognised the excited jitter on the other end, she started, sleepily: 'Jimmy? Do me a favor and don't wake me up at 6 o' clock on a freaking Saturday morning!'
'No, this is kinda urgent, Lois..Remember the Gotham source? I traced him down, and-'
That caught her attention as she sat halfway up, unwillingly prying herself away. This earned her a grunt of protest from the man underneath her. Lois started wakening up as Jimmy filled in the details.
'If you could show up by around seven-'
' Yeah..' she held a hand to the speaker-chiding 'And you can stop hogging the sheets Smallville!'
' I'll be right there, Jim!'
Clark half opened his eyes, smiling to find her groggily sliding out the bed, and hanging up the call.
'Where do you think you're going?' he asked in pure amazement.
' Apparently- Stories can't wait, hon!'
------------------------------------------------------
Clark watched as she busied herself about the room, drying her hair, and was convinced that she had absolutely no idea how breathtakingly beautiful she was.
'Got time for breakfast?'
She smirked.
'You bet.' she said, sassily.
'Lois-'
'Okay mom!' she raised her hands in surrender. 'I'm not malnutrition-ing myself again.'
She halted and whipped around. 'Gosh- is that even a word?'
He laughed.
' Which reminds me-' he said fishing for his phone. 'There's a very funny videotape you've got to watch!'
She stared in horror as he played her singing Whitesnake at the top of her lungs, standing on the living room couch.
'Oh I'm burning that.' she set the drier on the table and launched herself at him, struggling to get a hold on it. Clark fell back on the bed, doubling up with laughter with her on top of him, but yet managed to keep her target way out of reach.
'Hey! Don't...it's the most adorable thing I've seen...' he was giving her puppy eyes now, and she cursed him and those beautiful baby blues.
'I see you've had too much fun witnessing my drunken night mishaps!'
'Oh, very much!' he nodded, running a finger over her locks, laughing 'I really wish you could've seen yourself..'
'Hmm..'
'I doubted if you'd be up today.' His tone switched to genuine concern.
She scoffed. 'You're gonna pay up for that, Kent!'
'Looking forward to it, Miss Lane!'
'Did you know the Planet staff's betting on you?'
'What?' he frowned
'You should've given it some thought before you decided to gawk at my desk all day long.'
She grinned, not yet used to the way she could make the most powerful being in the universe blush at her words alone.
' Does it bother you?' he asked softly, intertwining their fingers.
'Wouldn't it bother you?' she cupped his cheek. 'With the whole Superman thing going on and the media and paparazzi circling around like hawks-'
'Lo- we're the media.' he reminded her.
She smiled. 'You get the point- Clark!'
' And there's worse- Wait till the General gets to know that his daughter is-'
' Fraternizing with the enemy?' he completed for her, chuckling.
'More like 'in a full fledged live-in relationship' with said enemy don't you think?' she asked gesturing around his apartment which was more or less, theirs.
'That bad?' he asked, catching the worry in her eyes, and knew this was about him.
'I honestly don't wanna know.'
'Well on the brighter side- we do deserve some credit for keeping it away from a room full of reporters-'
'And gossipmongers!' she snorted ' At this rate- we'll give it all away..'
'It's gonna be fine!' he firmly reassured her, looking straight into her eyes.
She bit her lip
'You think?'
'I know.' he smiled again. ' Besides I love it this way-'
' Yeah!' she agreed closing the distance. 'It's calm and quiet and we're left all to ourselves with zero intrusions to private space..'
'Just us.' he pulled her to him and the look he was giving her was as tender and adoring as ever.
'Just us.' She thought it over, as her voice dropped to a whisper. 'Just us sounds pretty good, Smallville. For now.'
In a burst of superspeed, he had her pinned underneath him, as he caught her lips with his own. Her hand loosely tangled in his dark locks as she responded with equal fervor.
'Trying to coax me back to bed, huh farmboy?' she asked breathless, as he kissed the way down her jaw and neck.
'Is it working?' he murmured against her skin.
She grinned. ' You're gonna make me late!'
With that she gently pushed him, and maneuvered back to her comb.
Clark lay flat on the bed, staring at the ceiling, more happy than he had ever been, and grateful to the life he shared with her.
'Breakfast?' He piped up
'Sure.'
He smiled victoriously.

It was still the most comforting sound in his world. The gentle rhythm blocked out the cacophony of noises which wildly enveloped him-ones which his sensitive hearing picked up easily, ones that sometimes got too much to bear and ones which disrupted many of his dreamless sleeps; the variety was countless- ranging from the honking of horns from the early traffic below to the ringing of bells ten blocks away. But, every single time- she managed to conquer it without ever knowing.
Clark smiled at the fond memory from all those years ago.
"You-what?" her tone was of blatant surprise.
His, on the other hand was of instant panic. "It's just.." he gazed up into hazel eyes which took all the words away. "I tune into your heartbeat, Lois. When I'm away on rounds" It's the one thing which keeps me sane- he wanted to add, but no... he wasn't going to make this any more difficult for her.
Her face somehow became unreadable after that. And he couldn't do anything except wordlessly ponder on how much of an idiot he had been. He knew he shouldn't have indulged into her sense of privacy like that. He knew he shouldn't have alarmed her. He knew he should apologize that instant before it became worse, assure her he wouldn't ever do that again- he couldn't mess up now...not when he had to go round and round for three years before she finally agreed to go out with him. But no words came. The next were one of the longest two minutes in his entire life.
"Lois..." he tried weakly.
"Oh!" she seemed to snap out of her haze then. "I'm sorry- I was...." she raised her hands, she looked uncertain for a moment. "You're saying you listen into my heartbeat..uh- you can hear it when you are-" she made a swooshing gesture.
"Yes?" he said, tentatively.
She fixed him with a awed gaze.
"Wow!" she paused to revel on it. "That's- deep, Smallville." she was smiling now, and he was at yet another loss of what to say. She leaned back on her chair to stare at him from the opposite booth.
"But next time you decide to let me into Clark Kent's stalking adventures...work on that poker face of yours." she grinned from ear to ear, teasingly, and then whispered, loud enough for him to hear. "It's terrible."
She winked.
He could now sense the change in rhythm, though. In a minute, he would hear her curse the blanket tangled around her, then him- for intentionally not waking her up, and then the loud commotion as she made her way into the bathroom to get a head start on the morning. Typical, but still- bringing out a wide smile on his face, without fail.
And- Sure enough, as soon as he put the kettle to boil, he heard her mutter, "Damn quilt! I swear one of these days-". He smirked.
____________________
"Don't you think you would've liked if I had learnt to cook?" She asked abruptly as she took a sip of the morning coffee, shamelessly ogling him busying himself over the stove.
Clark turned to face her with a bemused expression, wondering what brought this on again and again.
"Don't you think we have experimented that enough, honey?" he reminded, a slight raise of his eyebrows illustrating his point. The last time she decided she wanted to assist him, the session concluded with burnt omelettes, a smoking kitchen and a frustrated Lois. He was willing to bet they wouldn't fare any better this time. It never stopped her, though.
Lois put the coffee mug down, rolled her eyes and made her way towards him from the far end of the dining table.
"Yeah, you tease me now, Smallville. I'm sure putting together the ingredients for a few silly pancakes is not as hard as you make it seem to be."
He bit back the smile. "Oh yeah?" he challenged.
"Why not?" She asked dismissively. "You waste a whole hour..." she searched for the right words ".... perfecting the crust- for heaven's sake!"
"Hm. Let's see...How many helpings do you take anyhow? Don't you think you should be giving me more credit on perfecting the crust, Lo?"
She shot him an unamused glare. "Very funny. But I'm sure I wouldn't take as long, anyhow. Maybe I can teach you to mix with a spatula? Plus point is- you'll get it done under half hour." she mocked.
And then, she snatched the mixing bowl from him and started whipping the flour, milk, eggs, cocoa and powdered sugar furiously.
"What do you think you are doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing? Try and Keep up, farm boy!"
"Lo!" he faked mild irritation now. "You're not doing it right!"
"There isn't a right way of mixing a bowl of pancake batter, Clark!" she told him, exasperated.
"Yes. There is." he said, very seriously. "And you are doing it- right now!"
She didn't bother to reply. But he could sense the determination in her eyes: Try and stop me
Two hands made their way around her waist. She nearly squealed as he effortlessly lifted her and placed her far away from the bowl. And before he knew it, they were fighting like dumb kids over a bowl of batter. Not that he minded. Not one bit. In fact, he thanked the universe for letting them have the moment to themselves. It was a rarity when she was in a playful mood- that early or when earthquakes, floods and muggings did not interrupt their morning routine.
He couldn't point out how they ended up on the floor, the packet of all purpose flour currently raining on them all over as they laughed idiotically.
"Hm....Good morning." she said closing in to kiss him.
"Good morning!" Clark nuzzled her gently.
"We really are a mess now huh?"
"I dunno about me. But you are the most beautiful mess I've come across."
"Cheesy, aren't we?"
She looked at him for a second and then asked thoughtfully- "But, jokes aside- wouldn't you have preferred if I had been able to whip up meals for you? If I wasn't a walking disaster as soon as I stepped into the kitchen threshold?"
"Why?"
She hesitated, looking anywhere but him, and answered, softly: "I don't know. There are times when I really wanted to. But I guess it doesn't come to me that easily." she then laughed dryly, shaking her head, tangling her fingers through his dark locks.
"I'll tell you what I prefer. I love you exactly as you are, walking disaster zone or not." he said, voice low, eyes giving her that same tender look reserved just for her and her alone, and she couldn't help but melt. "And I really don't see the need of you cooking when I signed up for a lifelong pact to do it. Would it have helped if I added that in a really cheesy way to my wedding vows?"
And just like that, the spell was broken. She gently slapped his chest. Hand it to him to make her smile in two seconds flat, however put out she appeared to be.
"Shut up, Kent!"
He laughed again and she couldn't help hers, either. "Hm...I could get used to this!"
"What? A food fight?"
"Oh no, honey." he shook his head "This wasn't a food fight!"
"True. But we still have a chance-" she stopped, sniffing the air. "Do you smell smoke?"
Clark's smitten profile immediately rearranged to the "Superman look" she adored. He bolted up pulling her with him. The pan left without pancakes on the stove was now letting off puffs of smoke. She coughed, and it distinctly sounded like giggles.
He picked up the burning utensil with his bare hand and threw it under the running cold water from the kitchen sink. Lois couldn't hold back her giggles anymore, and burst into another fit. She was feeling vaguely lightheaded and giddy at that point.
"And you tell me you are the one with the 'super-smell' Smallville!" she said once it subsided.
Clark Kent-her husband, the most powerful man on earth, stood in the middle of their kitchen, blushing.
"Yeah well, I was kinda distracted!" he ran a hand over his dark hair.
"I know! I'm irresistible."
"You better keep that in mind, Miss Lane!"
He felt her heartbeat skyrocketing, as he pulled her close, leaned down, trailed his hand under his jersey and up the bare skin of her back. He smiled into the kiss: coffee, pancakes and the mess which was now their kitchen, forgotten
