I like characterizing Clover as a bit rude tbh.

Like, they're still a kind and selfless kid at heart. But kind ≠ nice. They have a go-to insult. And immediately instigate a fight with the Shufflers. And their ACT options in Martlet's fight are to either ignore her or rush her. And can glare a Dunebud into submission. And can choose to not forgive Martlet. And can respond to both of Ceroba's questions about how they're faring in the Wild East with a No. And shut Ceroba up with A Look™ when she asks about their home life in the Steamworks. And can scrutinize Axis in his fight even though it just pisses him off.

Don't get me wrong, I don't see Clover as a mean kid. They still have plenty of ACTs that are things like complimenting the monster. And they don't insult Martlet until she pushes them to (and she really has to encourage them to dig deep to actually insult her). And they hug Ceroba at the end of True Pacifist and show that they sympathize with her and forgive her. I see them as someone who tries to be nice if others are nice to them and can be understanding.

But it's way more interesting to me to interpret Clover, this very kind and selfless kid, as someone who can be a bit rude instead of being an angel on earth. They're blunt. They snap back with an insult if someone insults them first. They're unafraid to call people out on their shit. And sometimes they just have poor manners.
