Another colored version of the surf screenprint series I've been working on. This is intended to be a four color silkscreen print. I don't do a lot of four color prints because the more colors you have you increase the likelihood of missed registration which leads me to be grumpy. That said I played with less colors on these two rad rodents and it didn't feel right, so FOUR colors it is!
Thank you Aya Kakeda for translating for me once again!

After I created my first "Surf Dogs Line Up", I thought to myself- "Hmmm, I actually haven't drawn a lot of dogs before". The first piece was ok, not my best drawing but good enough. Then I thought "What would bring a real impact to these pups".
Draw a hundred of them.
Then combine them into one single image. 100 surf dogs.
So, now there are seven more. Only eighty seven left.

Surf Maneki Neko! Are you feeling lucky? This cat is! I'm pretty sure that I'm going to screenprint this but I'm also considering making stickers or t-shirts. I've considered putting in more Japanese type but I think this is good enough for now.

I needed a new image for a business card. Something fun and memorable. My friend Izzy mentioned he was holding a space themed event with scientists from the University of Hawaii, Hilo at the Hilo Town Tavern and asked if I could work up a poster design. The event was called "OTTER SPACE". The event fell through, but I couldn't help but draw it up.

Switching up a bit. A rough ocean landscape. I don't normally draw landscapes but after witnessing the King Tides here, I was inspired to draw a sculptural ocean scape. Mark that up as Post-It #5 I am totally loving my new Kuretake #40 brush pen! Definitely a step up from the good ol' Pentel Pocket Brush Pen.

In between pages of KITTENS #3, I've been practicing my watercolors. I'm still pretty rusty but it's been a lot of fun. This one is inspired by the Monstero plants that grow all over the east side of the Big Island. I'll be doing more of these!

It's been awhile since I've watercolored anything. I'm definitely a bit rusty. I'm planning to do a series of small paintings inspired by new Hawaiian home to hone my skills and explore this lush, beautiful place. I had forgotten some basic techniques as I progressed through this painting, I think mainly due to making so many silkscreens prints which is a completely different process. Well, either way, this was fun. Stay tuned for more!
