*Mixtape Review*  Giggs- Wamp 2 Dem
*This is my personal opinion, my taste in music is different to other people’s. This is not an attack in any form it’s an honest review.*
Giggs’ latest and 4th project was released a few days ago (6th October) in the form of ‘Wamp 2 Dem’. The tape has some huge features and producers with 2 Chainz, Young Thug and Dave getting a few verses along with producers such as Zaytoven and London on da Track, to name a few. With such a high caliber of guests you would expect it to fire; unfortunately that’s not exactly the case...
I personally feel that the beats are all cold but the lyrics feel rushed. Giggs has stated that the influence of the tape came from Americans dissing his verses he performed on Drake’s early 2017 (18th March) album ‘More Life’. Giggs lent his skills for tracks such as ‘No Long Talk’ and ‘KMT’.
More many years, Giggs as been seen as almost untouchable in the Grime seen but the modern popularisation of Grime as seen him and fellow grime artists such as Stormzy and Skepta become more mainstream and stray away from the original style of UK Grime. Grime has been heavily affected by American Trap music that has had 2 main effects on the genre, the beats have got ‘better’ and the bars have got ‘weaker’. All of this is very present on ‘Wamp 2 Dem’ with Giggs’ slow and deep flow corrupted by simple punchlines which in my opinion, ruins the tape.
The whole thing was fairly boring and unmemorable, I even found my self checking half way through to see how long was left. Looking at the features I was naturally excited for ‘Gangsters & Dancers’, the song features hip hip heavy weight Young Thug, I was very disappointed, I felt as if the lyrics were written on the way to the studio, to be honest, the whole tape sounded like this.
The song that I remembered and would listen to again would be ‘50 Cali’. Producer Zaytoven lays a hard beat that accompanies Giggs’ verse well.
As a fan of Giggs I felt disappointed with the tape, in a whole it doesn't come anywhere near songs like ‘Talking The Hardest’, ‘Whipping Excursion’ and even his verse on JME’s ‘Man Don’t Care’.
Overall, I found the album to be rushed and unimaginative, I hope this is not all Giggs can have to offer.
