So, fun fact. I've just realized that inadvertently how I write Gaster was influenced by the character William Murdoch from Murdoch Mysteries, a Canadian drama/murder mystery show that's ran since 2010. I got into watching it about 2 years before writing Souls Therapy. It tracks as a primary media source.

Do you have any tips on writing about the lighting/atmosphere of a room? It's something I always seem to have trouble with.
Atmosphere seems to be more related to what a characters feels about a room, or what the writer wants to evoke, while lightning seems to be more related to light sources.
Time/Space
Might sound like sci-fi but the physical place where the scene takes place is as important as the time of the day, or night, it occurs.
If your scene takes place on a field at midnight, look for light sources, as streetlamps or the moon, if it happens on a bedroom at sunset, the lightning will differ. White lights are also called cold lights, and yellow lights, warm lights. The atmosphere of a room will vary if you use a cold light instead of a warm light, the amount of light sources also modifies the way you see a room.
Senses
The atmosphere of a place is felt through our senses, whether if it’s cold or warm, ventilated or dense, humid or dry.
When you step in a bathroom right after someone took a shower is not the same as entering before someone takes one. The same if a room has open or closed windows.
Characters
Not every person feels a room the same way as another. What a character feels in a certain room tells the readers about them. For example, I don’t feel comfortable in a room with pastel green, or pastel blue walls, iluminated by warm lights, and high ceiling. I don’t know why, could be a childhood issue, but these rooms make me feel uneasy, The same can happen to your characters.
And, not every characters uses and decorates a room the same way as another, every room is a small world created by different people.
Use of space
I mentioned above high ceilings. Every room is different, from what’s made of to the furniture. Describing everything will bore your readers, and unless is plot required, there’s no need to describe everything in a room.
Genres
There isn’t a rule that associates rooms and genres, but there are some patterns, in sci-fi there’s the use of white lights instead of warm ones, in mystery/horror dark and cold rooms can be found, fantasy has a place for big rooms, and so on.
Here’s a link,give it a read
Writing: How to Describe a Room
Also look for room’s descriptions on books from different genres.

As of 02-26-2025 Souls Therapy and all associate works are on hiatus.
On February 12th I lost my Mum, and along with her the rest of my spark for creating.
She was always there for me and my biggest supporter, and while she never got to read any of my creative writing she was always there to hear me out about things she didn't even understand. I keep telling myself she would want me to continue on in life, but between struggling with academia, my job, and now her affairs and managing the home, I can no longer indulge in what has been my passion project for almost 9 years. This alongside my data still being recovered has led me to making the official decision to just hit pause on this avenue. I love my work, I love Gaster, I love the small amount of dedicated fans who return to my work ever so often. But every aspect of my being has been crushed, and to breathe is a struggle, let alone allow myself to put effort into my passion.
I'm sorry. I might return one day. I might not.

Examples of Children's Dialogue
THE TWO-WORD STAGE
Utterance — Intended Meaning
"Baby chair" — The baby is sitting on the chair.
"Doggy bark" — The dog is barking.
"Ken water" — Ken is drinking water.
"Hit doggy" — I hit the doggy.
"Daddy hat" — Daddy's hat.
The above are a sampling of two-word utterances produced by children, and the types of meaning they commonly used to express. Although these examples are from English, similar patterns are found in the early development of all languages.
SAMPLE UTTERANCES from a child's speech over an 11-month period
Age — Sample Utterances
28 months — "What doing?" "A bunny-rabbit walk" "Like some?"
30 months — "Take a button off." "Dis a other one." "Dat's a my pencil." "Hand me a piece of paper."
32 months — "This is heavy." "You going faster?" "Where horses go?" "Go down right side."
34 months — "Let me have one." "Want some milk in it." "Heard you talking." "Is this goes over here?"
36 months — "Do you want me eat with that fork?" "I want to sit on steps." "Why not he have ball?" "You going bring raisin tomorrow?"
38 months — "I want to see what's going on in there." "Let's have something to read." "Mommy cook something eat." "I don't want to go to bed again."
THE DEVELOPMENT OF PHRASE STRUCTURE
Stage — Approximate Age — Developments
Holophrastic — 1 to 1.5 years — single word utterances; no structure
Two-Word — 1.5 to 2 years — early word combinations; presence of syntactic categories unclear
Telegraphic — 2 to 2.5 years — emergence of phrase structure

Showing 'Exhaustion' in Writing
Heavy eyelids, struggling to stay open.
Slumping shoulders, barely able to hold themselves up.
Dragging feet with each step.
Speaking in a slow, slurred manner.
Dark circles under the eyes.
Yawning frequently and deeply.
Head nodding forward, trying to stay awake.
Leaning heavily against walls or furniture.
Rubbing eyes and face with hands.
Deep, weary sighs escaping lips.
Wincing at bright lights or loud sounds.
Staring blankly ahead, unable to focus.
Weak, unsteady movements.
Muttering incoherently to themselves.
Falling asleep in unusual places.
Lack of response or delayed reactions.
Propping their head up with their hand.
Collapsing onto the nearest available surface.
Swaying slightly on their feet.
Barely lifting their head to speak or listen.

$1250 to get my fanfiction data recovered

This is too long for tags. So until the best data recovery guy in town gets my data rebuilt... This is what I can do to occupy the mind gremlins that demand Gaster posting.
For him, specifically. I've obviously talked about the cars. He has an everyday driver and then a luxury one for strictly going out of town, or somewhere special. They're kept really neat and tidy, except for all things the places people don't look. Glove box? Spare pair of gloves and emergency hard candy, maybe some napkins for unfortunate coffee spills. The center console? His registration and insurance are in there somewhere along with emergency cash and old mail he never bothered to bring in the house.
Electronics:
Phone) He keeps it in a standard bookcase, with a debit card and low limit credit card for emergencies. This is also where you can find his MCA ID if it's nof physically on him. For how he keeps his phone? First and Last names. No pictures, BUT custom text or phone call sounds. However it's two sides of a coin, he either likes the person enough to have put the thought in and select something, or their very existence gets on his nerves so he wants to know when to ignore the ball and chain. Although, on Names and Pics, if someone gets the opportunity to grab his phone and take one of those quick sneaky pics, he will use it. And if he knows someone strictly by a nickname or alias, that's what he'll use.
Computers) he is very much a default settings type, but is known to customize his task bar and windows to be purple. It's pleasant on the eyes. Not a stickers person, per say, but if it were gifted to him and was thoughtful, he'd use it on his work laptop. However, his file organization would make anyone scream. He's still got the old tech mindset. So his file names contain no spaces, are abbreviated, and he doesn't use folders often. Impossible to navigate through his data... Just how he likes it.
On that, he's big on opensource software, Office 360 is the bane of his existence, and he got just as mad as the rest of the world when Adobe went to a subscription model (information is traded through PDF's). I'm also adding BRAND NEW LORE and saying he can't use Excel (or Calc in libre office) Remembering the formulas, looking them up online every time, he'll just leave that to people who know what they're doing (Outsourcing work is good for the economy)
Bag(s): So he has his briefcase for work (actually modelled after this Bugatti one that I bought for $5 and restored for $40) with a nice amount of space for files, binder with worksheets, other things he needs for the weekday job. But he also has this rugged brown messenger bag that he got when he started getting an education above ground. He's replaced the strap twice, the leather is worn where his arm always brushes past it, and the lining has started to thin in some parts, but he can't give it up. So he uses it when he goes out of town. It's enough for the company laptop, a couple of manilla folders, and a couple of snacks.
i think we as a society need to use cell phones/laptops/cars/backpacks to flesh out characters

This got one note, I'm doing it. đŸ«Ą
You know what would be really funny.
As the writer of Therapist!Gaster, if I, myfancyfandomlife, wrote a crossover one shot between my husband boy and that triangle bastard
Would anyone read that? Is it too niche?

So I'm sat here in the library at my University, writing one of my two term papers, energy drink, water bottle, portable daylight lamp in tow with a stuffed animal in my lap, and I can help but think that if I wrote a similar situation for my Therapist!Gaster series (likely for SD, I don't think I could make it plot relevant) that he'd bring his work and just body double for reader. Sure the house is quiet, it's got plenty of places to work, but it's a lot easier to crawl into bed and take a nap at home than it is in the library (that's what the study lounges are for lmao)

Happy 8 years to Souls Therapy
It's been a wild ride, and I'm so thankful for everyone who has continued to support and read it, new and old.
I've actually been doing a lot of work on the next chapter since I posted that "update". Idk what it was but in the month following I wrote 3.5k words when I had barely written 1k in the past 6 months.
Maybe I'll upload it after Finals in April?

Something I always toyed with for my Gaster fic was how he would spoil his partner.
He tries a couple times, giving straight up cash, taking them out to nice meals, paying for take-out or delivery. But none of it really feels like spoiling in the typical sense.
I don't know how I would ever write it, but he'd eventually move on to trying gifts (given their reaction to Christmas/Gyftmas, it's the logical progression). Pretty necklaces he spots while visiting the farmers market with them, a scarf or bandana that catches their eyes. I've always thought that he helps "update" their wardrobe too. Purchasing more business like masculine clothing, taking them to a tailor, ensuring their happiness in every way.
But this one keeps popping up in my brain, and it comes and goes. But it's been floating around for about 6 years or so. It has to do with perfume/cologne. Because, he's (mildly) obsessed with scent. In a more naturalistic sense (pheromones) as well as with just observing the world around him through smell (re; 'taste'. Smells with tongue. Don't ask me if it works like a snake that's one aspect of his biology I haven't dwelled on). It's half the reason he's always wearing something, it's like a shield for his senses.
But with them it's a little different. He simply cannot get enough of being around them, in their space, constantly keeping them close enough to "smell". Even going as far as to spend time licking them obsessively (there's a WIP for that... It keeps bouncing between Souls Desire and Souls Sin). So I feel like the truly selfish, whim-driven spoiling would be gifting high-end colognes/perfumes for them to wear. And he would probably end up letting on eventually that they should wear it all the time, even a light mist at home.
I have this like, image of them wearing a perfume oil (Probably that really generic bold Carolina Herrera one, "Good Girl"[I sound like I'm dissing it but I'm actually not because I own the rollerball perfume oil]) and then applying it just before they go to give him a hug before he leaves or when they get dropped off on campus, and swiping it on his neck or shirt collar. So when he takes a breath he catches a whiff of it and it's like their little secret all day. Or in sort of a primal/prey dynamic it's like a mark (god knows Gaster leaves plenty) and it's just, this kind of sultry, sensual action that gets passed between them.
