Honestly, no, don't let go because I'm not letting go either lol Consider that among the drafts, while I had no energy to write new content, there are files where I was rewriting my old bellarke oneshots just to see how much (or how little) they would change with a few more years of writing on my shoulders. I have the entire plot of TSATS figured out, and I was working on acts of love. This without mentioning another fic for another fandom that is also in my drafts.

I just have to find the right rhythm, but I'm stubborn as hell, I will finish those fics even if it takes me 10 years lol

How are people shocked and outraged to know that Jilco was supposed to be canon and several leftovers were left in the show. Have we watched the same story lmao how was that not obvious right from the start

Like, beyond shipping preferences I’m honestly left wondering about people who were so deep in denial that they entirely excused everything above as perfectly and innocently father/daughter like. Write that in a story since you’re already there, give us more lmao

^^^^ This.  And it saddens me that I left years ago because the place had just turned so toxic, and it didn’t get better apparently. 

But I also think it was inevitable because of the scale the fandom has reached, and because of the shit-poor state of fandom in general (be it on tumblr or twitter or instagram etc.), with people hungrily jumping on everyone’s throat to make themselves look more righteous and smart than anyone else based on their hot takes on the “bad” character/story/author of the day. 

Once you go from a close-knit cozy bookclub (like we were at the beginning) to a decently sized fandom like any other, then the same management strategies have to apply: the negative needs to be shut down, ignored, and side-stepped as much as possible, while positive content finds safe niches with smaller groups of fans who care about spending time together. 

Because there’s a point where engaging with the negative content (even just to argue against it) only works to spread it further, pushing positive engagement back as less of a priority. 

But having fun together should be the priority. At the cost of blocking 300 people so that only 10 are left visible. It should take active and conscious action to create and then keep a space that is pleasant for those who are in it, where everyone shares equally the responsibility of maintaining that space, no matter what is happening outside of its confines. 

The alternative, otherwise, is being subject to the whims of the larger, unmoderated “community”, waiting for burnout. 

Love how that post about TFC being badly written has gone around with little additions of ‘yeah buuuut there is this’ so many times that people have cancelled out that it’s badly written….bc it ISN’T badly written. Y’all get on my damn nerves. I have READ badly written. Things with a billion badly covered plot holes and things with 3 page run on sentences and authors who care less about their characters than they do pushing an agenda.

Nora created a story that genuinely resonated with thousands of people, as evidenced by how quickly it blew up. I was here when there were just 6 fans and a dog, okay? And we GUSHED and we LOVED and we BEGGED people to read these books and love the characters we did. And then people did. And there were a LOT of good ones, of course. But just enough bad ones; people incapable of critical thinking. People who exist in some insane world where everything is black and white. And those people ruined everything.

Started shitting all over the books and the characters and then Nora. Until she left tumblr and the series behind her entirely. Until many of the OG fans, myself included, just got sick of the negativity and abandoned the fandom.

TFC is and likely always will be my favorite series of all time. It speaks to me on such a personal level that I can’t help but see the good in it. It doesn’t mean that I am blind to the bad. I AM capable of critical thinking and fair criticism of all the media I consume. What I don’t understand is the people who claim to be ‘fans’ but decide that the author is shit and the writing is shit and half the characters are shit, etc etc.

That is not fan behavior. That is insanity. If you don’t like that many aspects of something then just say you don’t like it and go find something that you DO like and stop trying to tear to shreds something that is genuinely meaningful to a lot of people.
