A few Armand thoughts that currently have me in a chokehold:

1. The building in Dubai only “groans” when Armand is around, and specifically when Armand is mad. Some of my favorite times I’ve noticed it include when Louis tells him to go take care of Daniel’s room in ep 1, after Daniel slaps Louis in episode 5, when Daniel tries to put Dr Fareed “on the record” in episode 6, and when he declares “this session is over” after Daniel starts pressing Louis about the rats in episode 7.

2. This, along with the fact that Armand is literally controlling the windows and balcony doors with his iPad, really adds to the feeling that he’s holding both Louis and Daniel hostage in a trap of his own design. When he mentions the interior designer that pitied Louis and his separation from the natural world and added the tree to compensate? That was definitely Armand’s idea, to make the captivity a little more bearable.

3. I’ve always wondered why I find the Beethoven Sonata 14 to be such effective scoring at the end of episode 7. There are a lot of contributing factors I think— it’s dramatic, it’s recognizable and therefore builds suspense, it’s used in the beginning and end of the episode as bookends. But it feels so *right*— even though I LOVE all of Daniel Hart’s original score. But here’s the thing. Armand controls the diegetic music being played in the penthouse. That’s established in ep 2 when he turns it on before Daniel and Louis have dinner. And when the sonata is first playing at the beginning of episode 7, Daniel and Louis are back in the dining room (being served by Armand/Rashid). So we can assume that the music is diegetic in that scene, and that Armand is controlling it. When it comes back in the moment of conflict and reveal at the end of the episode 7, the music is nondiagetic. It’s not playing literally in the room for the characters, but is part of the score. But we’ve already established that Armand is controlling it. It’s like his control has suddenly spread to the entire narrative that we’re witnessing. He’s in control of the whole show.

4. This is kind of a separate thought and more oriented towards season 2, but Armand is always styled— costume but also especially hair— to match whoever he’s romancing at the time.

I kind of assume the Dubai aesthetic is what he has chosen, and Louis is more matching him (see above points for my reasoning on that I guess).

But when Louis meets him in Paris, he’s perfectly positioned aesthetically to be attractive to Louis (especially coming off his experience with Lestat). He looks mature, capable of leading the coven. He’s suave, with his well fitted suits and slicked back hair.

In the 18th century flashbacks (god I can’t believe we are getting to go back to the 18th century, my favorite of all historical eras) he is matching Lestat like, down to the color palette.

But in San Francisco (and forgive the bad quality screen grab for these, I don’t think we have any high quality stills of this yet) his hair is light and curly, and he looks a fully 5-10 years younger than the Paris or Dubai scenes.

Because he’s matching a 20-something Daniel.

thinking about how the heart-shaped gravestone with flowers on it was 100% chosen by taffy. and then the creature added “beloved wife” and took care of it despite her not being truly dead. lisa’s grave is just a monument of love.

Eric Bogosian's face is a delight. Also, this looks like he's slowly finding out about old manhole and is pretty into it.

I truly feel like Armand was following Daniel over the years just to see if he’s okay and if he made the right choice by erasing Daniel’s memories.

Ya’ll heard bout the possibility of a S2 ‘twist’? What if there were multiple verdicts?

No CHILD should be given the dark gift - Louis is guilty, but his punishment is not to d1e, but to ‘undo’ his sins… wait for it.

No vampire should destroy another - Claudia is partially guilty for transgressions against Lestat but it’s attempted murd3r - since Lestat is still alive.

All her resentment stem from being made as a child. Woe! Pity! The precious innocent who had no control over her actions. The mock judge/jury ‘grants’ her restitution - no CHILD should be given the dark gift. So they forcibly MAKE her an ADULT… que….the botched head swap surgery and destroy her body. Yellow dress moment still applies. But ah-ha! She’s alive, but a misshapen monster after, not able to pass for human anymore.

She begs for d3ath after, but the coven will not grant it as rule #1. Mock mercy.

So then it falls to Louis… to undo his sins. This was the end the coven sought all along. Louis does the unthinkable out of love. This traumatises him beyond what he can bear and nearly drives him to insanity.

Armand, as he’s in love with princess Louis and not wanting a repeat of Nicki, has no choice but to “control” his memories and “manages” Louis thereafter in hopes that he would one day heal.

I saw in an interview they’ll be putting some of the Armand/Devil’s Minion scenes in the present day instead of the 70s and 80s. (Other than Armand turning Daniel) what sorts of things do you think we can expect to see in Dubai?

... well.

I mean, Daniel already suspects at the very least, so even if we do not get the whole breadth of it in s2 ...

I do think the "general audience" will be flashed if they make it clear Armand wants Daniel. And old Daniel at that. (And I do think that the show won't shy away from that!) And that is why I think that will be one of the revelations in s2. (And that Daniel loves Armand.)

So... personally... I hope/think that we might see a version of this:

Armand's lips had moved in a soft, slightly concealed smile. And then his eyes had misted and closed. He had bent close to Daniel, pressed his lips to Daniel's neck. And once again, as he had in a little room on Divisadero Street in San Francisco with the vampire Louis, Daniel felt the sharp teeth pierce the surface of his skin. Sudden pain and throbbing warmth. "Are you killing me finally?" He grew drowsy, on fire, filled with love. "Do it, yes." But Armand had taken only a few droplets. He'd released Daniel and pressed gently on his shoulders, forcing Daniel down to his knees. Daniel had looked up to see the blood flowing from Armand's wrist. Great electric shocks had passed through Daniel at the taste of that blood. It had seemed in a flash that the city of Pompeii was full of a whispering, a crying, some vague and pulsing imprint of long-ago suffering and death. Thousands perishing in smoke and ash. Thousands dying together. Together. Daniel had clung to Armand. But the blood was gone. Only a taste-no more. "You are mine, beautiful boy," Armand had said.

I think there might be a high chance that we will get that line in s2. :)

(Which fits with Rolin's statement that the Dubai scenes are way hotter this season^^)

We don't talk enough about how brilliant it was for the show to age Daniel up.

He is now a far more skilled journalist than the young man Louis originally met.

He has no time for anyone's crap, so he is not letting Louis steam roll over him this time.

As a man in his 70s, he also has a very different view of life, death, and mortality than he did as a young man in his 20s.

All of this has already affected how the interview has played out, and will no doubt continue to do so.

I love it.
