Got around to scanning a bunch of film from the last year. Uptown New Orleans near Tulane University. This must have been near the end of winter judging by the trees. Rolleiflex 3.5 with Tmax Sean

What is this pile of dirt you ask? This is the remains of a civilisation lost to time located in Northern Louisiana. I had been looking for a reason to visit Poverty Point for some time and after working on a job in Shreveport the opportunity arose.
This mound was built between 1650 - 700 BC. There are many different mounds at Poverty Point, but mound A (in all the pictures) is the largest. From above it forms a “T” which many believe to be a bird.
It is amazing to me that something that has been called the “New York of the native Americans” can be all but lost to history.

“Learning the shape of things.”
Got distracted by the clouds and sunset coming out of work today. I drove down to the shoreline to put the new intervalometer through the paces. -KG Canon 5D/VSCO www.commonmarker.com

I rang in the new year stomping around Los Angeles. It was great exploring by myself. I have been to LA before, but was with other folks, which meant we had to work with eachothers wants/needs for the trip. This time I could go where I pleased, and got to spend a half day exploring downtown, the arts district, little tokyo and grand central station. This trip definitely gave me more affinity for LA.

If you head north on California Highway 101 from the Bay Area, in a little over an hour (depending on traffic……) you’ll pass the small town of Cotati at exit 481B. There’s a bunch of roosters and hens that live in the parking lot of the Walgreens just east of the highway. During the day they police the parking lot and at night they roost in the trees. They’re really pretty. Also ornery.

In early September I slipped quietly up to Alaska for a camping adventure with some old friends. We spent five days driving through the interior camping, exploring and communing with ancient glaciers.

My trip to Portland in black and white 35mm. Taken during the beginning of Fall in Oregon during a quick whirlwind visit this year. Including Laurelhurst Park, condos going up; which can be found everywhere, Aunts, Papa’s, and signs with deer on um.
Stay tuned for the Color Portra edition coming soon. Including exciting features such as how I turned on the date time stamp on accident and didn’t realize it till multiple rolls later. You can actually see it on the Portland city scape shot here, but it’s faint.
Raw, unedited photos shot on Olympus Mju II with Tmax and 125 PX then manually scanned.

Finally got some negatives back from the shop and found some time to scan them. This was from back in the heat of the summer when the water was as high as the humidity in the broken blocks around our home in the upper ninth ward of New Orleans.

Alaska is a magical place. I recently returned from a visit to our northern frontier, and it once again filled me with awe. It's hard not to be amazed everywhere you look up there. I was lucky enough to catch the changing of the trees, a display I have not seen in California or Oregon for many years.

I pulled out my land camera last week and loaded it with a fresh roll of Fuji 3000b black and white film.  I took advantage of this amazing antique store we were shooting at in Portland, OR.  This is one of my favorite snaps. I’ll share some more this week!

Another of my favorite places to take pictures which I also had the pleasure of revisiting recently while working on a show.
Fort Macomb, built after the attack of the British in 1814, defends Chef Menteur Pass. It’s been decommissioned since 1867 and is falling apart due in part to a moat system that is eroding the sides as well as thick vegetation on the top of it that is tearing away the bricks with their roots.

Was back working on a movie in one of my favorite old buildings in New Orleans the other week. Great to take pictures here, working 12 hour days gets old inside these rusty walls though.

Happy birthday to Common Marker contributor Eli Shell! I'm stoked he joined us on this venture, and unlike the others, is only a ten minute walk from me, so we have many opportunities to take photos together!
