The name is Theodora. Oh, I have a real blog. It's over on blogger. It's about my attempt of (and now success at) transferring to an ivy league program from a community college. Oh the thing you can do when you actually try, I suppose my mother was on to something all those years. I'm including it on my applications. This is all the utter shit I really do find funny, and would never dream of putting on there. No, see this would not give them a better picture of who I am....this is truly all the stupidity I wish no one to see but can't help to collect... High Brow Neo Maxi Zoom Dweebie/s savoring the geekery.

Get the Knowledge: Free Online Masters in International Relations
Since Graduating with my theatre degree, and actually quite a bit a bit before graduation, I started to feel like I wanted to learn about something more important. Surrounded by friends studying “important” topics like global policy and systems...and taking electives like urban politics sparked a sense of academic passion I hadn’t felt from theatre in years.
So, I started looking for more information. Being flat broke and having a lot of time on my hands, I looked into the requirements for a Master’s in International Relations at my undergrad alma mater, Columbia University. The program is very rigorous...but, are there comparable free MOOCs that offer the same knowledge and essential understanding of the history and theories required by Columbia?
I put together a course guide, according to Columbia’s requirements, pulling courses from major MOOC sites to design a completely free online Master’s in International Relations with variable options:

A comforting thought
Five thousand years ago, the Sumerians called the night ngi, the stars mul, and the moon Nanna.
Four thousand years ago, the Akkadians called the night mūšu, the stars kakkabū, and the moon Sîn.
Three thousand years ago, the Hittites called the night išpanza, the stars haštereš, and the moon Arma.
Two and a half thousand years ago, the Greeks called the night nux, the stars astra, and the moon Selênê.
Two thousand years ago, the Romans called the night nox, the stars stellae, and the moon Luna.
Kings and queens and heroes looked up at them. So did travelers coming home, and little children who sneaked out of bed. So did slaves, and mothers and soldiers and old shepherds, and Sappho and Muršili and Enheduanna and Socrates and Hatshepsut and Cyrus and Cicero. In this darkness it didn’t matter who they were, or where they stood. Only that they were human.
Think of that tonight, when you close your window. You are not alone. You share this night sky with centuries of dreamers and stargazers, and people who longed for quiet. Are you anxious? The Hittites were too: they called it pittuliyaš. Does your heart ache? The Greeks felt it too: they called it akhos. Those who look up to the stars for comfort are a family, and you belong to them. Your ancestors have stood under Nanna, Sîn, Arma, Selênê and Luna for five thousand years. Now its light is yours.
May it soothe you well.

Trevor Paglen - They Watch the Moon (2010)
“This photograph depicts a classified ‘listening station’ deep in the forests of West Virginia.
The station is located at the center of the National Radio Quiet Zone, a region of approximately 34,000 square kilometers in West Virginia and parts of Maryland.
Within the Quiet Zone, radio transmissions are severely restricted: omnidirectional and high-powered transmissions (such as wireless internet devices and FM radio stations) are not permitted.
The listening station, which forms part of the global ECHELON system, was designed in part to take advantage of a phenomenon called moonbounce.
Moonbounce involves capturing communications and telemetry signals from around the world as they escape into space, hit the moon, and are reflected back towards Earth.
The photograph is a long exposure under the full moon light.”

Concept art for the City of Canvan. I’m not very good with scale or steampunk or manmade objects or metals or landscapes or dynamic angles so this was clearly something totally I should have drawn but hopefully it’s good enough to get the point across.

TW: SLAVERY, RAPE
Or it could be a slave's name...many young black women were given biblical or virtuous names. Many were molested and raped by other slaves, family, drivers, or owners and brutalized and yes, sometimes murdered when they were found carrying the results of those rapes.
