Looking up, looking down. 15.75 miles at icy Afton -- one 25k race loop. Ran a long hill I've never made it all the way up before. Didn't fall at all, but was very close many times. My left calf is pretty rough -- maybe the tendons at the top, or the muscle is strained. I may take a week off and see if that helps. I don't want to hose my first ultra of the season (Zumbro 50) by being stupid. I'm also compensating, so my right calf is also sore, and my left IT band is locked up. Merp.

Why pay for veggie stock? Save your scraps, cover with water and bring to boil with garlic and salt and pepper, simmer for a couple hours. Compost after! :)

Veggie pho stock! This time I also charred the garlic along with the onion and ginger. Tonight, after my interview (meep...), I'll have to grab some fish sauce, bean sprouts and noodles. I have the fresh basil, cilantro, serranos, green onions, etc. Yum!

Skied for 1.5 hours at Hyland last night, after an Insanity workout. Uff da! Now for the Cardio Recovery workout while my boy unexpectedly snoozes out. Made tacos last night with Tofurkey brand chorizo, which was tasty. Added avocado, tomato, fresh jalapeño and shredded pepper jack. Stuffed them in my food hole before a pic could be taken. The world may end.

13.1 at Lebanon Hills with the UMTR group — over 20 of us this morning! Afterwards I explored the trails to the west of Lone Oak, and found some hills. The hills on the east side are all cc ski trails in the winter, so this was a good find!
Beautiful, warm morning — around 25 degrees, getting up over 30. Shorts weather!

The ultra season is coming together. 4/11 Zumbro Midnight 50 -- registered 5/17 Spring Superior 50k -- registered 6/7 Kettle Moraine 100k -- submitted requirements, okayed to register 7/5 Afton 50k 8/16 Marquette 100k 9/5 Superior Sawtooth 100 -- will volunteer if not ready for 100 10/18 Wild Duluth 100k unless I do the 100, in which case the Night Light Half, if anything 11/? Icebox 480 Planning on volunteering at all four Endless Summer races, Down N Dirty Women's 8k, and Surf the Murph, at a minimum. Part of me wants to make Sawtooth my first 100 because everyone says it's a bad idea. I'm stupid/ stubborn like that. At least I'll be able to check out part of the SHT course at the Spring Superior run.

Skied for 1.5 hours last night, did insanity workout today. Exciting! Had a phone interview, and did well enough to make it to the next round. 45 minute commute, but I can leave early to avoid rush hour, and run before work. Podcasts would be my friends. Fingers crossed...
