Just some photos from this morning, the rainstorms stopped long enough I could get out and weed the grass that's encroaching on the flower bed. Mushrooms EVERYWHERE, I hope that's a good thing. I believe they're inkcaps of some kind.
Plenty of isopods, of course, but also saw many many baby worms which made me happy. I love getting to see all the critters outside.
My stonecrop is doing well, I originally had it in a spot I THOUGHT got enough sun, but did not. Fortunately it loves the new place and is giving me plenty of flowers.
And my celosia flower, just because. I love the ruffled feather look.

Also, this baby spider did NOT want to get off my hand. I kept trying to chase it with a grass blade and the spider would just duck into a crease on my glove and keep scurrying :( I did eventually get it off my hand and back to the garden.

Made a post for my queue (because I love throwing all of my posts in Queue) and I guess my celosia was too spicy for Tumblr??? Or perhaps the worm was too squirmy??? Too hot to handle???

cooking is really important to teaching (food) gardening. it is the final stage of gardening. What use is a garden if it is not accompanied by knowledge of how to prepare delicious meals with the foods grown in it.
gardening is popular in the USA but community gardens will not truly catch on until we plant with recipes in mind--building gardens based around staple foods with ingredients to round out a nourishing meal. grains have a whole Process, but potatoes and dry legumes are easy staples cooking-wise.
why so much neglect of the humble dry legume?
be curious also, look outside of the vegetables easily available in every Walmart.

I finally got around to planting my flowers (plus a strawberry and tomato plant, very excited) and found some fun critters. The little (grass?) snake was only held for a couple of photos, I moved it to the shade and out of my way. My yard has so many little isopods, they're so fun to watch

I wish I had a better camera to show off how the colors looked in real life, but:
I knew my yard had clay soil, didn't realize how colorful it would be though! Red, yellow, orange, and this weird grey green color. I was planting some trees in my yard and found this when I dug down. I figured some people might like the colors.
