A dark time is coming. Humanity will be tested, and while we may not know who is doing the testing, or why, we must meet the challenge as we have met all others. We will succeed, because to do anything else would be inhuman. There is no magic, only technology. Tools we can master . Tools we must master. Not just to survive, but for the betterment of mankind. We can - and will - take our rightful place in the stars. This is my manifesto. I hope you will join my cause. End recording.

((In an effort to keep this blog strictly TIM-based, from this post onward, I'll be using this newly constructed blog over here ----> cerberusredshirts.tumblr.com for all the evil (and sometimes not so evil) minions I'll be using in RP when it isn't realistic for me to be using TIM. Hope that isn't confusing for anybody.))

"Excellent. I'm glad to see you're already informed and on board. Ready your equipment, Leng. You're leaving for the Citadel. I do not anticipate my agent repairing the damage he's caused alone; you'll be replacing him and finishing his mission." The Illusive Man shifted the cigarette from one side of his mouth to the other, exhaling a reflective puff of smoke in the small glow of his many terminals. His glowing blue eyes - a neutral mask - shone brightly behind the tobacco cloud, betraying no emotion as he leaned forward to slide the agent's dossier to the end of his desk. The Illusive Man had the utmost confidence in Kai Leng's abilities - the man was effectively a force of nature, and one of the most powerful tools in The Illusive Man's arsenal. "Obviously this is a sensitive situation. Our agent - Patrick Williams - has been flagged by a defector as a Cerberus agent working on the Citadel. I haven't heard from him in just under three hours, but we're not taking risks. His mission is too important - I need you to rendezvous with him, find out what he's learned, and make him disappear; without a trace." While waiting for his assassin's arrival, The Illusive Man had taken the liberty of having Leng's ship prepared. "Now, If you have all the information you need - your ship will be waiting, as soon as you're prepared to leave."

[Flashback] A Proving.
The dossier in front of him showed naught but a pristine record. One Monica Galey; of excellent pedigree, and parentage. After an extended period of time as a field agent performing intelligence gathering tasks to great effect, The Illusive Man decided it was time for the young Galey to enjoy the benefits of promotion. He paged his assistant Jana, and bade her to fetch the young woman for a meeting. Some while later, an agent knocked at the door to Monica's residence, bearing good news.
#operativegaley#[A proving]#Sorry it's a bit short! I didn't want to do so much of the talking without you :P

The Illusive Man gripped the datapad tightly. It was an obvious attempt to maintain his cool exterior. In his hands, he held a secure line from a deep undercover agent stationed on the Citadel who very recently delivered more bad news. He had fires everywhere as of late, and but a trustworthy few to call upon with the expertise to put them out. Fortunately, one of those select few stood behind him. The Illusive Man took a final drag from his nearly-depleted cigarette before grinding it out in the nearby ashtray, and beckoning for the newly arrived Kai Leng to approach. "Leng, you are as punctual as ever, and I thank you for your haste. We have work to do, and business to discuss." The Illusive Man reached into the interior breast pocket of his suit jacket, and produced from it a small ornate case, and a sleek silver lighter. He lit another cigarette, and allowed his agent to move front and center. With a wave of his hand, he moved the holo terminal out of view, set the datapad on the desk in front of him, and continued with a rhetorical question. "Do you know anything of the ancient Roman Empire? Historical accounts of the time seem to suggest a great many things caused the behemoth to fall. There is however - one thing - that is widely agreed to have been the most damning: internal corruption. Our house is no longer in order, and I have no intention of letting that be our downfall, too."

Kai Leng always knew better than to keep his employer waiting when he was called.
Despite the fact that the assassin had been in the middle of a workout, he had immediately dropped what he was doing, grabbed a towel and his shirt as he left the gymnasium. He quickly towelled the sweat off his face and neck before slipping into his shirt as he made his way down the hall, ignoring the looks he received as he strode forward.
The Illusive Man’s office was only accessible to a rare few, and even Leng didn’t see the office as often as Jana did- whom he passed as he approached the door. The brunette nodded curtly at him, her heels clicking on the floor, her skirt making soft sounds as her long legs carried her away from the office.
Kai Leng never assumed why he was being called for an audience with his employer, but the whispers he’d heard as of late had his suspicions up. Defectors. The new N7 classes that had emerged as a result of said defectors. Lawson still at large, and her father still demanding her collar returned around her neck.
Despite wearing standard issue combat boots, the assassin made barely a sound as he crossed the reflective floor panels, stopping at a respectful distance from where the Illusive Man sat.
"Sir," he said simply, awaiting his orders.

Testing the Waters.
The Illusive Man exhaled deeply, blowing a stream of tobacco smoke against a vid screen in disgust. If you'd asked a young Jack Harper where he thought he'd be in thirty years, he wouldn't have expected to be here. Perhaps a retirement - one without too many injuries - if he were lucky, or maybe an urn or a box somewhere if he wasn't. The old Jack Harper lacked ambition. Somewhere in the Galaxy, one of The Illusive Man's many, many contacts had sent up a red flare. An icon blinked from white to bright red in a cluster of hundreds on the screen for the third time this week. Cerberus had agents all over - in every major city and on every major planet. If secrets were weapons, then The Illusive Man's arsenal was fully stocked, but his greatest enemy here was incompetence. His nostrils flared at the agent's failure, but he gently tapped a cigarette against the ashtray to his right, adjusted the volume of his music, and set to work changing the orders of another agent in the area. The compromised man had exactly three hours to report back incognito with good news - and an even better excuse - or he wasn't going to enjoy the benefits of his newly updated severance package.

[Flashback] Cord-Hislop Aerospsace's Success Skyrockets!
Elegant. Smooth. Refined. That's what 8 years of aging will do to a bourbon... Jack Harper silently read from the back of the whiskey bottle, and casually rubbed a thumb over the sleek black and red label. Today, stocks and earnings were posted, and financiers and galactic news conglomerates got wind of the successful launch of Cord-Hislop Aerospace's newest line of luxury shuttles. Though the (so called) Illusive Man no longer had both hands in the control and direction of the company, the successes and failures of his deceased friend's namesake were of great interest to him. Harper sipped at his glass of bourbon and stared at the vid player, as an Alliance News Network reporter turned to greet a financial analyst by the name of Dr. Randall Habib. The doctor proceeded to talk about the company's product efficiency, business practices, and holdings in an attempt to explain C-HA's sudden leap onto The Phelps Journal's Top Twenty Fastest Growing Companies list. After the lengthy analysis, he ended with the self-deprecating sentiment that: "Had [he] seen the explosive growth coming, he would currently be a retired man." The Illusive Man turned his attention to the management of his other holdings. Though he allowed himself this one moment of nostalgia and celebration, he would not allow it to interfere with his upcoming plans. "... and along with what Doctor Habib described, there is almost no question as to why Cord-Hislop is the current hot-button in aerospace success when you take a step onto one of their absolutely gorgeous Marseilles class shuttles, which boast an incredible array of features..." Jack turned the volume back down on the vid player and took another sip at his glass of bourbon - letting the smooth caramel, and the traces of oak breathe over his tongue. Though today marked the incredible successes of Cord-Hislop, it also marked much more; the organization known as Cerberus grew in strength behind the corporate front - and though (perhaps with a touch of irony) the galaxy's conspiracy theorists and nut-jobs suspected foul play where the company's money was concerned, the lack of any proof or damning evidence meant that Cord-Hislop's success would continue to fund him for a long time. Jack Harper raised his glass to the news vid before draining the last of the drink from it. If only his latest project would bear fruit too. Now that would be real cause for celebration.
#The Illusive Man#Mass Effect#I am going to say that somewhere in the timeline this lands between the events of ME1#and Shepard's resurrection#Yes that is what his latest project is.
