Well this hit me like a socker to the fucking guts

My whole childhood was defined by my gender and place in the family - the youngest by a good many years, and the only girl. I was the different one so I needed to break the mould - I needed to be the bright, clever, hardworking peace-keeper. But, I also needed to be quiet, timid, girly and polite.

When I grew up to be someone with the capability to be brash, defiant, stubborn and forceful, this didn’t suit anyone. I became too clever and too bright to the point I could see through them all and call them out on their bullshit, which people don’t tend to enjoy. It was liberating sure, but it was exhausting and led to many many many fights. My inherent need to protect my mother, the sweetest person, not similarly blessed with my levels of verbal self defence, led to some wild arguments. And then it all got too much, and I left. But the guilt of “dissenting”, of “dumping” them, weirdly still remains.

Love is awful! It’s awful. It’s painful. It’s frightening. Makes you doubt yourself, judge yourself. Distance yourself from the other people in your life. Makes you selfish. Makes you creepy! Makes you obsessed with your hair. Makes you cruel! Makes you say and do things you never thought you would do! It’s all any of us want and it’s hell when we get there! my brother wanted help with an application to work where i work so i “helped” him write a pretty poor application to avoid an argument, thought there was no way they’d progress an application that bad, only now he’s been invited to an interview and my anxiety is through the roof

he’s a horrible person and would be terrible at this job, plus i love my job and it’s MINE, why does he need to copy me when he spent so long patronising me about my work only to ask for help applying for the same thing??
