Vessel 100% does either exoplanet transit spectroscopy or protoplanetary disk chemistry. For the evens, I’m thinking probably pulsar timing array or fast radio burst stuff for ii and then iv as a staff astronomer at the observatory working with radio galaxies. For iii, though, I’m torn on whether he'd be an on-site electrical engineer or another astronomer…

fuck it I’m dressing the other vessels in period attire too. iv gets either an 1865 or 1866 day dress, iii gets a 1540s Tudor gown, and ii’s in a 1400s kirtle but with an adidas logo anachronistically embroidered on
#to be clear my vision was something smart/with clean lines for iv + rich ornate patterning for iii + simple base that can be adorned for ii#I know they show up about 20 years after that illustration but what if I put ii in a hennin 😶

vessel if he slayed was a fashionable lady in the late 1880s
Obv the bulk of this design is directly taken from a gorgeous 1886 winter promenade ensemble by Matthew Carlsen, but the bodice wasn’t working with what I had in mind so I revisited some fashion plates from around that time for further inspiration. I settled on using a contrasting green velvet for the bodice front and the underskirt as well as stealing the fun sleeve soutache designs from a late 1890s pattern :-)
