Thoughts and critique of S5E11 BSD :)
Spoilers ahead ! Duh !
Iâll start off with saying that I found the episode okay. I just think that it was too predictable and cliche. Iâd prefer something different, so here we go. My notes, criticism, thoughts and ideas for the last episode of season 5!
Letâs start with the revelation that Dazai isnât dead. As any Dazai fan, Iâm glad he isnât, sure, however the reason behind it kind of sucks? The fact that Dazai and Chuuya had this planned all along caused it to fall flat. It feels shallow and underwhelming. There were no stakes, it was all just solved with Dazai laughing in Fyodorâs face, being like âL bozo this was my plan all alongâ.
Not only the stakes disappeared, but so did the heavy emotions and the tension. Dazai realizing itâs actually Chuuya helping Fyodor and attempting to drown him? Chuuya shooting him in his vampire state? Jokes on you! Itâs gone! It was the plan all along!
The Meursault arc looked pretty cheap due to the revelation. Fyodor is written out to be highly intelligent and despite whatever point Dazai was making about manipulation and people blah blah, I find it VERY hard to believe that Fyodor fell for the act so easily. Even if Chuuyaâs acting was top tier great, I doubt he wouldnât notice the contact lenses or the fake teeth.
If Sigma is actually dead (because at this point, who can tell lol), then thatâs genuinely upsetting to me, on both emotional levels and storytelling ones. Considering how he was brought to their world with The One Order and he had no idea who he was and shit. Him joining the ADA after this was over was honestly something I would really love to see. Especially if Dazai died and he had to deliver the news along with the information he learned about Fyodor to the ADA? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING GOLD PIECE OF PLOT.
Turn off your Dazai bias now. Of course, it wonât be the same without him, and I am aware that the story canât go on forever, however, this could be absolutely amazing in terms of storytelling. Even if they wanted to conclude the story with this, let Sigma join the ADA because of Dazai. I think Iâd be pretty neat if Dazai would help Sigma find his âlightâ, the way he helped Atsushi, the way Oda wanted him to do.
Arc where Chuuya would have to deal with whatever emotions he would feel (confusion, or perhaps guilt or regret?) for killing Dazai while he was infected with vampirism? No matter if he hated him, killing someone you knew for so long must have left him feeling SOMETHING. I personally feel the manga portrays their relationship better than the anime, but Iâm not going to go into that right now.
Where Sigma found himself? Where Atsushi had to navigate life without his âmentorâ? Where everyone had to process the loss while having to move forward? That is something I would LOVE to see. Dazai didnât have to die, he just had to be left injured in my opinion. Just not totally okay, but in a state where he at least needed time to recover or otherwise need help. Chuuya could have still stopped the bullet to his head, maybe as Aya pulled out the sword he would regain his senses or something. Sure, still lazy, but I wanted to see Chuuya panic over Dazaiâs body, dead or alive lmao.
In conclusion, I am really hoping this was just Bones being silly stupid and this isnât what Asagiri actually did, and if it is, he better has something devastating for us up his sleeve. Because Bones tends to be very silly and stupid, like we all learned. Other people already talked about this in depth so I wonât go into that here, I donât care about that right now.
Either way, thatâs all, I think. Feel free to argue with me and share your own opinions! This is just what I personally think, I love to see the perspectives of others :)
