Can I be honest?

Throughout the seasons, I have noticed Peter changed from “innocent angel” who is occasionally annoying on purpose like a typical little sibling would be—To something kinda pettier and jerkier.

But… I kinda like that in a sense of character writing..? For me it makes total sense. Even if it wasn’t done on purpose. (Considering some episodes are plotless or all over the place, the characterization of someone is kind inconsistent—but that doesn’t really matter right now)

This is a completely different character from Peter, but for some reason, he reminds me of Ami from “Toradora!” (Sorry if you don’t know that anime);

Basically, around her first few screen times, she portrayed herself as a “sexy airhead”, and overly nice. Because that’s what people expected she was. And if she wasn’t she was made to feel like that was a problem and she’d lose her image.

Her best friend asked someone to try and “get her to start showing her true colors”, because he was worried she wouldn’t make real friends with her airhead mask. And honestly, I kind liked how she started getting sassy and sarcastic.

And so I’d really love the idea that Peter turned from “Perfect Peter” to “Petty Peter” or maybe “Prickly Peter”—because those sides of him are more real than what his parents ideal of him is.

And Henry would pretend to be annoyed, but actually really loves how much more attitude his brother is allowing to shine through the angelic mask he was forced to keep on. (But also still very annoyed, whenever Peter decides to mess with him.)

Henry: “Peter! Pull the rope!” *trying to prank Margaret while she’s having a picnic*

Peter: “Can’t.”

Henry: “Huh?” *puts down the telescope and looks down at Peter* “Why?”

Peter: “I just applied my post-shower lotion. I don’t like touching rough dirty things after moisturizing.” *trying not to laugh*

Henry: “You pull that rope now or I’ll apply a whole new kind of lotion on you! The kind that worms like you swim in!”

Don't worry, it wasn't long. Thanks for the ask <3 I've always wanted to get one. Well, I've never heard of the anime (thanks for explaining), but YES, I don't consider it a downgrade for Peter's character for losing his perfect composure, quite the opposite! It was a huge upgrade, because it gave more life to the character, it showed a more human side to him, because he's a child! And children will be petty, annoying, mischevious, sassy, envy...Because they're human! In the first seasons (1 and 2), we see people's points of view about Henry and Peter. Throughout the episodes, we discover that Henry is not so horrid, and Peter is not so perfect. Peter's petty attitude even contributes to an improvement in the relationship between the two brothers, because now they feel more comfortable being themselves around each other, without having to act "according to a role". Now that Peter has also started to stand up for himself, Henry has started to respect him more and has started to pick on him less. They still like to get each other into trouble and annoy each other, but above all, they love and care for each other, and I love how the fifth season reinforces how strong the bond between them is. I think is also cute that Peter started to like the same things as Henry 🥹 just a lil bro trying to be like his big bro, without losing his own personality.

Honestly, their relationship feel more real in this way.
