Me when… me when… the identity is horror. Who are you? Can you be replicated? Is that replication you? If someone looks just like you, acts like you and is interpreted by others as you, are they you? Do your thoughts count for anything? If everything you actually think stays in your head and never comes out then you die do people grieve you? Do you respond to your name or to any name?

At first I thought the Toymaker’s “too many teeth” reveal was meant to be an uncanny valley effect; a personification of something that isn’t human pretending to be human. Like an AI image that doesn’t wholly complete its replica of a person, despite its efforts. And maybe that truly is what it’s meant to be for us.

But then I remembered that The Master became one of these teeth by LOSING A GAME to the Toymaker. This carries the implication that the Toymaker may have Too Many Teeth because his mouth is full of TROPHIES OF HIS DEFEATED ENEMIES.

idk this has just been playing in my head all morning, if someone wants to add on or write an actual story, go for it. id love to read it!!

been binging 'humans are space orcs/space australian's' recently and its got me thinking

what if humans get on board with and see aliens and the aliens aren't surprised by our looks because were so different, but instead surprised by our looks because theres another alien species that looks just like us.

and obviously, being humans, we ask to meet this species. everyone is excited for this interaction, no one thinks much of it really; outside of the obvious shock that we have a look alike.

the humans get on board and make this long journey on the alien's ships (the humans ships wouldn't last this adventure, being fueled by EXPLOSIONS that don't take us near far enough.

obviously there are adventures, surprises, and learning while onboard. we are still different from the aliens after all- in fact maybe they expect us to act like this other species and we don't, at all.

eventually though, we make it to this planet with the look alikes. we go down to meet them, and every human who has these aliens in sight freezes with an eery, unshakeable, visceral feeling. the uncanny valley. except its like, ten times stronger than its usually ever felt.

the humans try their hardest not to show it, many of them looking for signs that they will be murdered on the spot. others don't even leave the ship, they couldn't possibly. not with this feeling of doom, of inexplicable, unexplainable terror.

many aliens are confused, wondering why the humans are acting so differently, is this how they greet humans on earth possibly? other aliens cant notice a difference at all. our faces and body language don't make sense to them.

this uncanny feeling eventually leads to some sort of chaos though, whether it be fighting, retreating, or even pissing their pants. the humans cant stay very long.

A partner who seems completely normal until you look at them when they think you aren't watching. Things like "breathing" and "blinking" aren't really necessary, they just do it for your benefit. When they think you aren't looking they just sit there. Still as a statue.

They have a pretty big library but most of the books are self-help books. how to be charming, how to get people to like you. how to be successful in relationships. They keep a notebook where they write all the key points of how to appear human and how to put real humans at ease. And all those notes pay off. They are charming, sweet wonderful, and just a little weird.

They aren't really dangerous. You think. Just... you know. Alien. It doesn't really hurt anyone if they eat raw meat and... well only raw meat. Who cares if cats hiss and dogs bark when they walk by? plenty of people aren't big on animals.

They watch you sleep at night. they stand at the foot of your bed and just stare pleasantly. Thinking god only knows what. If you question them they just laugh, tell you not to worry so much about it. At least they'll be up before you to make breakfast.
