Belonging to Nightmares

Summary:

Thirty years ago, the wife of the king's favored scientist passed away, taking their unborn child with her. Twenty-five years ago, twelve girls were made and born to the scientist, both in honor and the image of his beloved wife. Nearby, another girl was born, but she was unimportant, unworthy of note by any other than her adoptive parents in celebration of the grand miracle. Now, in the present day, our story starts five days after the scientist's death. Only one daughter, Minna, the one their father kept closest, does not grieve him. Neither does she grieve the loss of freedom taken from her sisters and her. She barely grieves in any way. After all, she does not feel. Not like her friends and sisters do. But she does love, she thinks. And that love is what keeps her going. And so, her fate is sealed. She is the protector of her family. Hidden away in the dark walls of the castle, Kyrie fights to change her fate. After her family's slaughter, she is now a concubine for the king. A king who is unpredictable, ever-changing in what she and others can do to please him. But please him she must, so she can find a way to be with Minna again. Or die trying. All main characters 18+ unless I specify otherwise (ie, certain flashbacks).

Wait it’s lowkey giving my oc and the dragonets of destiny

chosen one but there is no prophecy. there is no string of fate or scroll of doom to tether you to this role. chosen one as in the stolen one; you were normal and naive and clueless. they told you what you were and you believed them. why wouldn’t you? they were strong and just and kind, they were all you knew. they told you that you were their saviour and how would you have known anything otherwise?

chosen one that they moulded to fit a role. you were a child, you could have had a perfectly ordinary life. you could’ve been anything other than you are now. but they chose you to be a part of this, and now there is no escaping it. they’ve made you twist and contort yourself until you are not so recognizable to who you were before. you have become their soldier, their saviour, their weapon.

chosen one who didn’t know anything else. chosen one who grew up being told exactly how to be, listening to false prophecies about what they would become. chosen one who believed it all wholeheartedly. chosen one who became all they wanted to be because anything less than that was just unthinkable.

chosen one who discovers they really aren’t chosen. chosen one who truly was just a normal child born to a normal woman and man who was forced into this eternally-binding role by mere chance. chosen one who was not supposed to be the harbinger of peace or the catalyst to the war. chosen one who was not born to be anything other than what they were.

chosen one but you were lost. fate does not exist and it was only a matter of coincidence that you ended up like this, burdened and scarred and broken.

Tbh nyra is like. A mix of the first two.

Five Types of Living Weapon Whumpees

The guard dog -> loyalty has been ingrained into their bones, following their handler around like their shadow. No one dares stand against the organization because of the legendary dread surrounding this living weapon. They hardly say a word but every movement is calculated, eyes always darting, always watching. (“You always were their lapdog.”)

The loose cannon -> dangerous for both sides. Always talking back and never predictable, their value is dependent on their skill. If it wasn’t for that, they’d be dead a long time ago. Their loyalty is earned, not bought. No one wants to be on their bad side, walking on tip toe whenever they show up. And they enjoy it. (“What’s everyone looking at? Aren’t you happy to see me? I even brought my rifle!”)

The broken down -> most common type of whumpee I’ve seen. They’ve been overpowered and forced into the commission. They hate their handler more than anything else but see no way out. When they’re told to shoot, they don’t even blink. It’s always “yes, sir” this and “yes, sir” that. If they feel any sympathy, they don’t show it. They’ll do anything to avoid punishment and flinch at quick movements. Nothing they face on the field is worse than the cards they’ve been dealt. (“I understand, sir/ ma’am. I-I’m sorry.”)

The dissenter -> Usually recruited into the organization or joined as a last ditch option. Not necessarily against using their abilities or skill, they just hate being told what to do. As time goes on and their disobedience is punished over and over again, they grow reluctant. Bitter. With every order, they slip in a snarky comment. Roll their eyes. Anything to assert their own identity. Or what’s left of it. (“ah ah ah, you didn’t think i’d notice? The middle finger was a bit much. I’m afraid it will have to go.”)

The ghost in the machine -> known only by their codename by outsiders and by their number in the organization, they’ve been stripped of all humanity. They live, breathe, and think by their handlers orders. They’ve been told over and over again that they are just a weapon. And a weapon does what it’s told. Their anonymity is attached to the organization in the same way a gun is simply an extension of their arm. But at night they still stare up at the ceiling with a blank stare— did they ever a life before this? They can’t remember. (“It’s not like it’s a person. It doesn’t have feelings like that.”)

i don’t know what i’m talking about but i think my favorite type of injured!character is the cornered animal, and there’s two types

there’s the stray cornered animal, who watches warily, just out of arms reach. a sudden movement and they’ll flee. soft voices, kind smiles, gently coaxing them to come out, it’s okay, i won’t hurt you, i only want to help. they want to let you help them, but it hurts and they’re scared. gentle persistence will have them slowly creep toward you, carefully extending their injured limb or hesitantly laying back for you to examine them.

then there’s the abused cornered animal. they know better than to let someone get so close when they’re so weak. they’ll patch themselves up, thank you very much, and growl when you get too close. they have no desire to trust you, because they’re in pain and believe you’ll only hurt them further. they don’t want help. in fact, get too close and they’ll bite and scratch and kick until you back away again. the only thing you can do is watch from the sidelines until they can’t reach that one cut on their back to stitch it up, or their hands are shaking too much to wrap their ankle properly.

I would like to see a whumpee and a carewhumper situation where the carewhumper is like. More caretaker than whumper because they’re being forced to hurt whumpee. And maybe carewhumper feels guilty about it, but whumpee just grits their teeth and says “it’s alright… I forgive you…”

Or maybe whumpee says “why do you smell like whumper?” And carewhumper just gives them a sad look.

Because at least it’s carewhumper hurting whumpee and not whumper.
