mickey was in tune to ian, he noticed every little thing about him. and he definitely didn’t miss the way his voice cracked, but he didn’t comment on it. he could feel himself already itching out of his skin, wanting to bold. “yeah i did. legitimate business, something i never thought i’d own. got workers and everything. regulars that come in. it’s pretty cool.” he was proud of himself, what he’d achieved, what he’d proved. “i don’t have it all, but i’ll pay you back some of what you loaned me.” he nodded his head. “good. he’s a good kid, or was from what i can remember of him.”

ian heard the tone in mickey’s voice perk up while he was explaining and he was proud of him, he just wishes he could have been there to see it unravel but it was his fault, “ no it’s fine you don’t have to worry about that “ he gave him a reassuring look, “ yeah he really is a good kid “ he smiled to himself “ anyways, were you here long before I was?”

“you would have known if you were there.” he thumbed his lips, a sign that he was either uncomfortable or nervous. maybe he was a bit of both. “it was alright, sorta cool. found it easy to pick up on the spanish. i own a bar down there actually, or i did until i ended up here.” he shifted from one foot to the other and his eyes flickered to look at ian for a brief moment before staring back at the wall behind him. “you seen anything of yev? know how he’s doing?”

“ I know “ his voice cracked a little hoping it was unnoticeable, he regrets what happened and his expression changed to a sincere sorry “ but that sounds pretty cool, I bet you did great with the bar “ he slightly smiled then looked down at his feet “ and yev is doing good, I saw him a few days ago “ he looked back up to look at mickey again, feeling a pang of regret yet tries to ignore it.

“fucking thrilled.” his tone said the exact opposite of his words, showing that he was less than thrilled to see ian. “ain’t got a clue. one minute i’m building a good life in mexico and the next minute i’m back in this shit dump of a country again. but here i ain’t wanted. police officers don’t give a fuck, which is fine by me.” he shrugged his shoulder and crossed his arms over his chest, locking at the wall behind ian’s head so he didn’t have to look at ian.

Ian rolled his eyes and let out a small breath he didn’t know he was holding in finally switching his gaze to mickey, looking him up and down a few times , taking in that they were suddenly together again for whatever reason “ how was it in mexico “ he said trying to lighten the mood and make the feeling less tense, leaning against the wall, still slightly staring.
