i find it so hilarious that when given the proper circumstance and chance (i.e. high int/ cha characters) Zac can and will always try to lie and manipulate and gaslight his way through stuff. "Bandlebridge, yes that's what I said, what did you hear?" "I steal back everything she took from us" "please, i have a son" "why would that be mine? you pulled it out of your pocket" and Lapin's entire character. hell yeah roll to gaslight my king. truly he is too powerful and were it not for the inherent self-sacrificing tendencies and kindness in all his characters he absolutely would manipulate and destroy brennan in every campaign. we are right to fear him and frankly, i desperately need him to play more cunning characters

now i've watched a fair amount of d&d i've started to pick up on the differences between dm style i think
like brennan IS all the bad guys. every game he dms is brennan vs the players. he makes npcs and battles that make his friends throw things at him and he smirks the whole time. he makes them tell him their worst fears and then he makes them do it. and it's awful and amazing and really funny
matt IS exandria. his characters and battles never feel written or constructed, they just feel like things that already existed in the world. it's all about verisimilitude with him, and he's amazing at it. he tends to fade into the background and let the players react to the story and it makes everything he does incredibly cinematic
aabria dms like she's just another player at the table reacting to the story, right up until someone gets lulled into a false sense of security and tries to fool around and THEN she throws a curveball by making them deal with the consequences of their choices. she's like oh you think that's funny?? then i'm about to be hilarious, bitch. and she keeps getting away with it bc she's just that good!
basically, brennan's an evil bastard, matt's the world, and aabria's the queen of consequences

im starting to think you guys dont like it when stories make you feel things
#I don’t usually 1000% disagree but I 1000% disagree#I mean it depends on what you’re looking for#do I want killable characters in my hallmark movies? no not really#but a story without stakes is a story that is lacking imo#and in an adventure or a gripping sci fi or whatever — those stakes are often that a character may die#maybe even a character you like#did you know — reading fiction is one of the biggest indicators of empathy?#i don’t know why exactly that fact relates to this post but it feels prudent to know#fiction that makes you feel can make you grow#of course — be mindful of your triggers and you don’t HAVE to do anything#but I think to try to state that it’s wrong to kill off characters and enforce stakes and make things painful is extremely shortsighted#and for some people reading and consuming painful things is the way they work through their own pain because they connect with the media#it’s a safer place for them to feel that pain than in the world where they were harmed#so yes#I am a firm believer in killing characters#on a lighter note — was my largest complaint against Naruto was that death never stuck so stakes seemed to lack 😂
