I think the thing that I've taken away from this panel is that it's okay if you don't like your work because there are people who will love it.
And I didn't take that away because there was any implication that Hugh or Mads disliked the work they did on Hannibal but because they so obviously loved it but even they couldn't remember all the details of the things they loved. Hugh wouldn't stop talking about S1EP2 Amuse-Bouche but he could not for the life of him remember Eldon Stammets' name, and Mads and Hugh had to be reminded of Donald Sutcliffe's name.
And those details of the panel stood out to me because it's like wow I may forget about something I've written or recorded or drawn, but someone somewhere out there, even if it's just one person, probably loved what I made even more than I did and they might've committed parts of my work to memory that I've completely forgotten about or thought were insignificant.
I guess the panel just reminded me how thankful I am for fandom spaces and the fannibal community and just generally people who are kind and uplifting and share what they love with each other.

Audience: awwww
Mads: “That was worse for you??”

The whole crowd went,
"AAAAWWWWWWWW"
And then Mads and Hugh laughed at us.
"You're all taking for granted that he'll (gesturing at Hugh) be a part of that future."
"It is a giant journey obviously for both of them. In reality that is a giant journey. He's gone through it (Will) but in Hannibal's world as well, even though the step is much smaller for him, it's a gigantic leap right? Because he's potentially envisioning the future caring on a few.
But it's interesting because Hannibal had never ever thought about the future. He's a man who lives in the present. And for once he saw a future."
– Mads Mikkelsen, talking about 'The Wrath of the Lamb' finale scene

I feel like the disappointment over the hannigram censorship at C2E2 was made so much worse by Misha 'balls deep' Collins's panel happening on the same weekend

After meeting a few of my favorite actors at cons and getting kind of the same sort of answers from them about characters-
"Most of it was already there, the characters were written like that*
Has kinda made me lose my desire to meet actors specifically, instead I really just want to sit down with certain show creators, directors, and writers, and just talk to them about their creations. Because actors bring the story to life and that's amazing, but the story was written first and I want to pick the brain of the person/people who brought the actual story into existence.

To recap:
Hugh's favorite line is, "Is your social worker in that horse?"
Mads favorite line is, "Nothing here is vegetarian"

I think they should've created an OnlyFans account for Professor. It would unironically made them so much money.

I think it's very obvious that they have a PR person on staff.
It does appear like they read at least some of the comments to the point of putting Shane in center stage, having Steven not talk as much, lowering the production quality of their apology, etc.
They fucked up, and they're sorry. Are they sorry that they actually broke their audiences trust? No way to actually tell. They are at the very least sorry that their plan to move backfired. It's no doubt they've probably put a lot of work into this behind the scenes and they were excited for it on their end- and for this I do hope that their true intentions were to make bigger better projects. I think they could have made this happen without the move, while staying solely on YouTube like so many other people have managed but 🤷🏼 I'm sure they will find a way to cut their losses and restructure.
I think what this does show is a MASSIVE disconnect between what the Watcher boys long term goals are and what kind of content their audience actually wants.
This new layout is how they should have started a move anyway. With more communications- at the very least with their existing Patreons- and a Ssslllooowwwww move away from YouTube as a platform. Like the absolute lack of communication with their fans is what astounds me the most and was (in my opinion) the thing that bit them in the ass the most.
I completely understand wanting to make better quality content, bigger better stuff to be proud of- especially if filmmaking and TV was your intended career path in the first place. But alienating your fans, and not communicating your desires and setting that standard early on is definitely not the way to do that.
I think today was honestly the best they could possibly do given the circumstances but, they broke the trust of their audience and that's a hard thing to keep once it's been broken once so they'll be walking on eggshells for a while. Curious to see how the live shows in the UK go this week.
Okay, soooooooo....how are we feeling about the update/apology? Have we reached an acceptable outcome? Personally, this works for me, but I'm curious how everyone else is feeling about it.

Something I find really funny about the whole Watcher debacle, is that they definitely had opportunities to keep their communities trust even if they still did this whole move.
Literally watching MatPat slowly step back to do whatever he wants in a communicative way over a 10 week period was perfect. He is still showing up on things other than GTLive to talk about how important it is to have trust between your audience and you and that if you break that trust it's next to impossible to build it back.
Look at other companies like Theorist and Good Mythical Morning who have managed to take on full staffs of people but remain in that free media space of YouTube just by keeping their audiences trust and growing outside of YouTube but not abandoning the people that are actually there for just them. Merch, Patreon, you know- extra content. They grow out from the roots instead of Watchers tactic of uprooting themselves in an attempt to replant.
I wonder how they are reacting to all of the backlash they are receiving for this horrible idea. They got an audience in the first place because of Shane and Ryan talking about ghosts with a black screen and some text. Absolutely no one looks at Watcher and asks for better quality. In fact I preferred their ghost hunting stuff BEFORE they had better quality. Now it just seems like they goof off for 40 minutes, even Ryan isn't taking it seriously in most episodes and he's supposed to be the believer. I digress.
Good luck to the ghoul boys in their attempt at streaming. I will not be following. I will miss Puppet History though.
