Ghost swap C46- prelude and unorganized thoughts.
This is different than normal, but is still hopefully at least something. For the wonderful @laughingmango who cooked with this prompt- just wish I was in a different place, creatively and time/hyperfixation wise, so I could have done more. Oh well, hope anyone who sees this enjoys, spoilers for Slay the Princess and Ghost Trick.
When something grand and all-encompassing was split in two, the paradoxes it held within were pulled apart. Each hunk of its stringy remains holds only whisps of the components that their other contains. The experience of such a being, once full of such lovely depths and internal contrasts, is irreparably shattered, leaving only flattened possibilities behind.  Â
One of its new halves, held close to the one who unstitched its seams, is given a choice in the hopes that the aspects it contains will keep him from straying from the path He wants him to follow. A jagged jaw cloaked by hair and a head adorned with thick and boxy coils of hair are drawn from the bisected corpse. A darkness textured by rigid twists and spirals seeps from the decay, swallowing this half whole and filling out the empty spaces of the construct being built around the god carcass. The sight of the being that takes its first breath once his darkness shadows his visage is left as only notions and glimpses. The only aspects of his own visage that the unarutal nothingness doesnt cling to are his gnarled and warped hands, left free so that they can easily hold a pristine weapon n their palms.Â
His figure isnt the only thing swallowed by his shadows and his understanding of the world is eaten by his new form. The emptiness his godhood leaves behind is but an abandoned burrow, free for the taking. An echo of the one who swallowed the original inhabitants whole curls around his mind, sinking teeth into his perception. Then, like rattlesnakes, his broken pieces nest in the hollowness together. They slumber there, listening but dormant outside of the one close enough to the entrance to meet the eyes of the outsider wrapping around the space. The Voice of the Detective, green but heroic, extracts itself from one of the ideologies contained by the fibers of godly flesh close to this new beingâs core.
In contrast, his counterpart is sealed in solitude. His remains are left to morph and warp until they have reshaped themselves into something that feels⊠not right but familiar. An inspector, ironically jailed and outfitted in white in order to contrast the glimpses of a shadowy smock he will eventually get of his other half. His head is scraped just as clean but nothing moves into him. The flesh he was spun from was softer, more mulable, than his other. It keeps him from shattering, there are no shards left behind. Rather the emptiness serves as a blank canvas. The blinding white at its core and the boundless potential are the integral parts of him that can be squashed or stretched but never changed even as the rest of him is resculpted again and again. Anything more will have to be painted across his surface by the role he is cast into at any given moment. A spool empty of threads exists somewhere beyond his cell, tugging on the thread he is woven from, searching for new paintings to incorporate into itself.Â
His shape remains human but his teeth and eyes are capable of impossible sharpness. Part of him is painfully restless as he becomes aware of the absences he feels but cannot remember but he remains composed. He leans back against the wall and taps his foot idly, waiting for footsteps he knows will find him eventually. A golden cuff tethers him to his bird cage, decorated with the engraving of a watch that is fake and useless. Not that time truly matters. He will know his time of waiting is almost over when a presence that isnt him selects between mediums. Fingerpainting or a pallet knife. This second half doesnt have a preferance. He knows that its only a matter of time.
______________________________________________________________
And thats all I have so far. Apparently stp has got me in a very experimental mood and this is short enough that idk if I will post it on A03 even but, hey! Remembering that a ghost swap prompt mentioned my current hyperfixation reminded me to finish something else i had almost finishged for the event and made this appear in my google docs. Wich is a slay since I was feeling a little upset by how few of the ghost swap things I started got done enough to share by the posting date. :) so thanks for this. I was planning on doing art but oh well, at least its something and not having the motivation to draw them just means I had to describe what I was picturing less abstarctly because I think my basic concepts cooked. Also thinking of this PROMPT cooked.Â
I guess for now Ill just share some of my thoughts about this au? Because like-Â
Cabanela- associated with similar colors to the princess- characterized as unrelenting, eccentric and unpredictable- so focused on his image and constantly burying his true nature in favor of leaning into how other people see him- always trying to stay ahead- in constant movement- trying to encourage his counterpart to escape with him- being willing to hurt Jowd and make it seem like hes abandoned or is even willing to kill Jowd for the sake of getting them both closer to Jowdâs real freedom- constantly trying to provoke Jowd into straying from his inaction/apathy- forced to leave fate in Jowdâs hands at the end despite being the driving force between them for years- calculating and distrusting yet such a bleeding heartâ- absolutly could suit the role of the princess/shifting mound. The Inspectors, vessels for the ârestless whiteâ or dancing coatâ or something. It works.
And then like-
Jowd- far more reactive then active, as seen in the prison escape and âI just took place in what seemed like a fun gameâ- a man who contains such heroic ideals yet is apathetic and self loathing and curious and loving and passive yet still capable of force and laughter and cruelty and art- a person with keen senses and sharp intuition but who doesnt always use them- a person who can be swayed by ideas such as âfor the better/greater good/sake of othersâ but can be selfish and cowardly- who lets himself be directed and who has at least one moment of fearing that who he is is doomed to a cycle of violence at the end (wich is esepcially reminiscent of a certain stp route)- he is the one imprisoned but is the one who can actually be himself and who doesnt care about how hes perceived- largely unchanging in his appearance and nature- incredibly hard to convince or shake- unwilling to yield to Cabanela or Lynne for years- given more agency and choice despite wanting to just escape responsibility- stuck wth more rigid and black white ideas of right and wrong, like how many tlq options could be seen as dualisms (âslay/saveâ âtrust/never trustâ âend/eternityâ)--- like I see what yuou mean about him fitting the Player/Long Quiet/ Hero role. Our detective or hero. Could even think of some interesting possible voices. They wouldnt have to be one to one to TLQâs but if I wanted to draw parallels I could see the detective (the hero), the inmate (the cold?), the artist (could lean into the passion of art for Smitten but i would want smitten to lean more into the âold friendâ nickname and he does art when he is content with his fate so I think its more the broken), the stubborn is good as is honestly, the friend (smitten?), the jailbird (contrarian), the hunted also applies pretty seamlessly because sissel calls the guards âhuntersâ, the colleague (opportunist), the scapegoat (paranoid because this is the part of him that took the fall for Kamilla as if they would ruin a childâs life), the sleuth (skeptic- who could also be the detective label but is less focused on heroics) and the Widowed (I went back and forth for alternative names for the cheated such as âthe heartâ that would be more focused on the idea that the feeling that its all unfair is one he hides but probably feels deep down or âthe deniedâ because hes not allowed to die or esape responisbility. And I wondered if I should use widower because it's technically the masculine term, but idk Widow has more connotative weight to me?). Like maybe not those exactly, but something like that. And the alternative for the long quiet could be like the prolonged vow (as in vow of silence) or the lingering solitude, or something. I don't really know.  Â
Idk it is just a fun comparison I wouldnt have thought of but that I think is really interesting and solid now that I have.Â
But some other headcanons(?) about how this au would work in case the likely chance that I dont write more than just a little bit for this in time
- Rather than stabbing in the heart, most of the times Jowd kills Cabanela would be slitting the throat, coloring his scarf red and leaning into the unspoken/undefined nature of their love in GT
- Jowd would for sure get their version of the Stranger first (avoidance)
-Honestly something like Nightmare is a plausible second route for similar reasons. Or perhaps the beast/den/wild because of being noncommittal. Then perhaps the specter (being told what to do). Or I could see the prisoner pretty early on with his detective stuff. And the final could easily be the tower/apotheosis because he just gives up. I dunno. And I see him getting the loop ending ending at least once.Â
-Rather than being cat like when more animalistic I could see him being the more bird like one because his design is very bird coded. Perhaps a lot of bird motief that gets more budgie when damselesc and more bird of prey in witch/hunter/adversary.Â
-If Jowd wasn't human, I could see him being more mammalian-like- like one of those large hares that are really angular and almost old god-esc.Â
-I love the choice to have the narrator be from the same irl voice as the voices, and that could still be the case, but part of me would be curious to see it be more feminine? If only so it's not entirely these men and to maybe tie in a very ooc alma who is still pretty doomed, but idk if i want to make her such an antagonistic/complicated/condescending role? Haven't decided.
-Either way, I think Cabanela's dialogue with the narrator in the routes that allow it would be REAL interesting.

The "beach episode" prompt from @carlyraejepsans was exactly the excuse I needed to draw Alma and Cabanela in this outfit that I've been thinking about as Very Themâą for AGES. See Jowd's list of excuses for why he's not the one playing "matching outfits" with his own wife XD
however, it was also requested that Cabanela be completely ridiculous, so:

(kamila voice) And I brought you a pool noodle too in case you need it
(cabanela voice) thanks, baby.
Kamila invited Cabanela to play in the pool, but he's only here to lounge attractively and get tan...however, he said the wrong thing as an excuse, and now Kamila thinks he can't swim very well and has made it her personal mission to allow Uncle Cabs to safely enjoy the water. What's he going to do, crush her dreams??? No. Uncle duty calls, and it means letting your niece "help" you as much as she wants.
Alma is putting these photos directly in the photo album the moment they're developed. she's going to treasure them forever.

@carlyraejepsans so that beach episode... (A10 "Can be both art or writing but if it's art I want Cabanela in the most ridiculous swimming fit you can think of. I'm talking 1920s. I'm talking speedo and pool goggles. I'm talking trunks with a print of his own face on the ass. Do your worst.") For @fyeahghosttrick's Ghost Swap!

Ghost swap for @youghostandyoutrick: Fandom fusion! Put anyone from the Ghost Trick cast into another fictional universe, as though they originated from that universe
Behold, Yomiel and Sissel in the Seraphina universe, with Yomiel as a Goreddi human and Sissel as a dragon! Dragons exist under an uneasy peace treaty with the country of Goredd, and must wear bells to mark their identity when they take their human "saarantras" form.
Sissel and Yomielâs relationship is extremely illegal under both speciesâ laws and customsâŠluckily this definitely wonât end badly for anyone.
This can potentially fill several different prompts, including @sunnyaliceart's request for characters as furries or fantasy animals (I specifically did dragons for you :D) and @critter-ghosting-some-tricks's request for Ghost Trick as dragons/dragon riders. Yomiel counts as a rider if he's being carried in Sissel's talons, right? @owlfacenightkit also requested Yomiel, Cabanela, or any other character as a dragon.
This is all to say, I included drawings of all applicable Fiansissels for her saarantras form. No this wasnât an excuse to draw cute Sissels in medieval outfits. I would never do such a thing.
