Hey guys, sorry for the long hiatus again! I've been busy lately, and I was finally able to get this artwork up on the blog! There's going to be a lot of changes with everything here, and "Cryptic" itself is going to be much more of a horror oriented story. Because my computer is broken and I have yet to find an alternative way to use my drawing tablet, I will begin posting lore on various cryptids and supernatural entities (and possibly SCPs if I decide to delve into it), as well as posting drabbles and short stories to make up for the lack of content on this blog.

(Side note: Be prepared for a some pencil drawings since I can't use my tablet at the moment)

I JUST ACCIDENTALLY DEVELOPED A CRUSH ON MY OWN GODDAMN ORIGINAL CHARACTER

I JUST WANTED TO MAKE AN OC WHO'S A FAE/DEMON THING WITH THE ASTHETIC OF THE WHOLE "DARKNESS AND THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" SHIT BUT THEY ALSO HAPPEN TO BE DORKY AND A TOTAL HIMBO (THEMBO? Is thembo the right word for a genderfluid/non-binary character?) AND I STARTED IMAGINING THEM BEING IN "PHANTOM OF THE OPERA"-ESQUE SITUATIONS WITH THEIR LOVE INTEREST BUT BEING A TOTAL SOFTY INSTEAD OF A POSSESIVE BASTARD LIKE THE PHANTOM WAS AND MY HEART CAN'T FUCKING TAKE IT

I literally made this character in JUNE OF LAST YEAR and I finally started playing around with that characterization in my head, and now I have a crush on my own goddamn character.

Should I re-name the MC of Cryptic?

Hey guys! I know I don't post for Cryptic a lot and all, and I don't really have much content on this blog and all, but there's a big change I wanna make for the main character. For those who've been following this story, you all know that the main character is "Sunny", our sweet little techno organic color changing alien. Here's where the problem lies: The name, "Sunny".

When I first created Cryptic, it was meant to be nothing more than a silly gag comic with my then self insert and some characters based off of my friends. But once I got started, I ended up planning out a huge, complex world and developing the characters to the point where "Sunny" became their own character rather than simply my self insert. And that's where things became complicated.

If you follow my main blog, @sunnythebot, you'll know that most people on here know me as Sunny. It's not my name in real life, but it's the identity I've come to embrace as my own on this. And that's been making me uncomfortable with the fact that Cryptic's MC, who is no longer my self insert, has my identity attached to them.

This decision would be a lot easier for me to make if not for a friend of mine, who loves hearing about the developments I've been making regarding character design and mapping out character archs. I told her about my plans to change the MC's name, and she was extremely disappointed because she had grown attached to the name "Sunny" for the character. When I told her my dilemma regarding sharing a name with my own character when said character is not a self insert, she asked my why I couldn't just change my own name and keep it for the character.

The thing is, I don't WANT to change my own name. I've grown attached to what people online know me as, and I just can't imagine being called anything other than "Sunny" on here. But I also don't want to disappoint those of you who have grown attached to the MC'S name being "Sunny".

So what do you guys think? Should I change the MC'S name, should I change my own name, or should I keep both of the same?

I'mma use this

Vampire doctors that can smell if you have a blood disease.

Werewolf therapy animals for sick kids.

Nature sprite and nymph nurses that always make sure people have pretty flowers to brighten up their white rooms.

Fauns that go around and sing and dance for patients so that they smile.

Nice monster hospitals would be amazing

Maintenance

This was originally meant to be a thing I did for inktober, but I never got to ink it.

I've been tweaking Sunny's design for a while now (mainly the sensory moduals and her exoskeleton) and I sorta wanted to experiment with the concept of Sunny being opened up and taken apart or maintenance, as well as drawing some techno-organic gore.

I'll probably finish it later, but I hope you guys enjoy it in the meantime!

Announcement

Yo, so I haven’t been posting a lot on here lately, and I just wanna say that I’m re-starting cryptic. I know I only made six pages, but with school and the fact that I can’t use my drawing tablet anymore, I don’t really have that much time to make digital art, y’know? So since taking pictures of my traditional art is faster and easier for me to do, I am going to use this blog to record my process and development in making Cryptic. I’ll be posting about my different designs for the characters as well as some concept art, and joke comics.

I lost the pen to my drawing tablet, so here’s an MS pain Pixle Clipsy!

Fun fact: Sunny and Clipsy are part of the same “species”, however the ability to change colors with emotion is something unique to Sunny. Which makes sense, considering that sunny didn’t always have her exoskeleton, and she used to have ears instead of sensory modules.

Cryptic, Chapter 1: Identification Required (Page 6)

I was really busy this past week so I sorta did this chibi-minimalist type style

Sunny isn’t ACTUALLY angry at Neil, she’s just extremely annoyed, and “Anger” in terms of the way her colors change also includes annoyance.

I know you’re all probably wondering what exactly Neil did. Trust me, it’s stupid. Very very stupid. And dangerous of course, but we’ll get back to that later!

The new character is Corvis, Sunny’s familiar. Sunny has no idea is they’re a demon, a fae, an eldritch abomination, or all three.

Corvis is basically Sunny’s demon butler/faerie maid/eldritch abomination secretary. They’re not based on anyone I know.

When Sunny turns pink, it either means she’s embarrassed, being affectionate, aroused, or crushing on someone/falling in love. 

Sunny is a hopeless romantic, and has a major crush on Corvis, however her feelings appear to be unrequited.

Neil’s giraffe neck was NOT on purpose, but I honestly think it’s funny as hell

They moved the conversation from the dining room to the living room because shit started to get serious

Neil messes with drugs a lot, generally acid and/or alcohol.

The fonts I used were Lucida Sans Typewriter Regular (Sunny), Rockwell (Neil), and Monotype Corsiva (Corvis)

Here’s a doodle of an upcoming character, Clipsy! They won’t appear in the first chapter, but they will appear later on in the series!

Fun fact: “Clipsy” isn’t her actual name. Many characters within Cryptic use a nick-name/false name/pseudonym because many supernatural creatures, such as demons, ghosts, or faeries are able to control you if they know your true name. These creatures may also be controlled by any who know their true names, however it’s easier for a mortal to be controlled with this method than any non-mortal.
