Cryptid of the Day: Bermuda Triangle Jellyfish

Description: In his book, The Devil’s Triangle, Richard Winer described seeing a 50-foot jellyfish south of Bermuda. Winer had a camera, but when the jellyfish showed up, he had run out of film. It was later speculated that it was a giant squid or a giant octopus.

Doppelsauger (Dubbelsuger) - Vampire of the Slavs of the Hannover region of Germany. Doppelsauger means "doublesucker," and refers to persons who are weaned twice. Their fate is to become a vampire after death. In the grave, their lips remain undecayed, and they absorb the fleshy part of their own breast. As a result, their living relatives become vampirized of their vitality through a sympathetic connection.

To prevent a Doppelsauger from leaving its grave, a gold coin or gold cross is stuck between the teeth of the corpse, or a half-moon-shaped board is placed under the chin in order to separate the head and chest. The burial garments must not touch the lips. When the corpse is removed from the house, the front doorsill is raised and the coffin and funeral entourage pass out beneath it; the sill is then tightly replaced. According to lore, the only way a Doppelsauger can get back into its house is to return the same way it left. The moving of the sill prevents it from doing so.

Nonetheless, Doppelsaugers still can escape their graves. If a family member loses weight rapidly and becomes sickly, then other relatives must go to the cemetery in the middle of the night and exhume the Doppelsauger and knock off the back of its neck with a spade. If it is a genuine Doppelsauger, it will let out a loud cry.
