It's been a week full of art adventure! I love trying new mediums and I was finally able to try #gouache ! Once again, I had no clue what I was doing, but I had a fun time. On a side note: I haven't played #worldofwarcraft for a few months. This is normal- I will stop for a month or two and then play again (hello, rollercoaster relationship)...and I think it's time to get back to it. One of my favorite style of videos/posts are swatches (I seriously can lose hours of my life to youtube and swatch videos)!There is something magical and addicting to seeing blobs of color. I made this little palette in December just to mess around with. I seem to have been leaning to moody jewel tones and a few "punch you in the face" colors. My wonderful partner got me an amazing glass top architect desk and a lovely art journal by Kristy Rice named #theartforjoyssake ! My mother found me some great storage for my art supplies and I spent the last few days building the table and storage and cleaning up my art area. It's a breath of fresh air! I feel reenergized! I have been doing a little bit of this journal every night and have been IN LOVE with it! Her layout and exercises are amazing! I was today-years-old when I found out there is an #oiltober ! 🎉🎈🖼🎨 It's been a very busy (and emotional) first week of October and I did NOT want to pick up anything to do with inking (sorry, Inktober!). For whatever reason though, I was itching to pick up the #watersoluble #oilpaints again! I pulled this little #fanart piece of #howlsmovingcastle out and started at it again. It's been such a fun way to dip my toes into this new-to-me medium! We went up to the Oregon coast last week to visit Steven's family. His grandmother is an amazing artist and I feel like I can spend hours in her house looking at her work. Every time we come home, I get out my oils she gave me and I attempt to paint something. It's a fun medium, even though I have NO CLUE what I'm doing. I spent yesterday making this little guy. There were some events that happened at work last month that have left some physiological scars it seems. I've had to take a breather, take a step back, and reevaluate some things. I keep telling myself to go art, but I haven't had much in me to do anything, let alone art. I did manage to create these little two guys, but it wasn't a long lasting creative burst of motivation. I did get to try out some new supplies though. The left flower is on #jacksonsart two rivers paper 410gsm NOT and with a few #danielsmith watercolors. I promised myself that I would create (and post) when I could, and that I wouldn't stress over not posting enough. Work is back to being understaffed, so I'm working extra days and I have little oomph to create. But I decided to pull out the #watercolors the other day and do a simple #mermay creation. Yesterday I was able to sit down with one of my clients and paint while we were watching a #Ghibli marathon. He asked me how to draw the forest spirits in Toroto and I pulled up a few reference photos of the forest spirits for him. We practiced and I ended up adding to the reference doodle (I couldn't help myself, we both were having too much fun to just stop with the quick doodle from the reference!) and this was the result. I managed to get out of work for a few hours to go celebrate my niece's 8th birthday at @reddingallfiredup ! I've wanted to go there FOR YEARS and I was so excited to finally get a chance! #sunflowers today! This week at work has been...well, it's been "something." I'm not quite sure what's the best descriptive word for it. All I know is I'm ready for my weekend.
